I was 11 when this came out and started listening to this brilliant album at the age 0f 1976,and to this day still blasting it out loud, thanks to my older sister....
I always forget about Bacchus Plateau when I listen to this album, always a pleasant, upbeat surprise at the end. I wish we could have gotten a few more albums like this from them before their inevitable transformation into an arena rock band. Probably would have happened too, if the album had been even remotely successful, as they were quite proud of the direction they were going at the time. This one album stands as one of the definitive 70's metal albums. Sounds very akin to what other major 70's metal bands were doing at the time.
This album was my first southern Rock LP two years later I saw Lynard Skynard Been a southern Rock Fan now for 51 years and counting The greatest music ever
Great album, which was produced by Dick Taylor of The Pretty Things. Dick is my favourite musician for 60 years now and still playing at the age of 81.
Proto punk? I beg to differ. The MC5 comparison is valid, but other than that the album is very much a product of its time, an albeit faultlessly executed amalgam of influences ranging from Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd ("Heavenly Man"), Santana ("War Girl"), Jefferson Airplane ("Never Never Land"), Pink Floyd / Procol Harum ("Track One, Side Two") and Pete Townshend's rhytmic anarchy to the free-form meanderings of Hawkwind, while one also seems to detect a fair amount of Black Sabbath's guitar ace Tony Iommi's doom-laden tuning. With Paul Rudolph charging unto the breach and his boon companions being forced to follow, the Fairies here produce an explosive musical cocktail which will continue to stand as a timeless rock classic.
This album is strong from one end to the other with nothing weak in the middle or anywhere else for that matter. A childhood memory so strong. I can still sing every song word for word. It is that embedded.
I met these boyz when they played our filmore west club in SF where i worked for bill graham spring 69 three nite bill it was $3 for 3 bands show.first nite i smoked a bowl of my lebanese blonde hash with duane and their drummer they got tore up..!!!then i heard duane died on his Motorcyle just out cruising hit by a truck never saw them again as a group
La música bien...lo malo es la propaganda... Siempre me han gustado. Grand funk.
