This is Farnborough - during one of its biennial airshows (22-26 July 2024 is the next one). You can see the display parking to the right. The white public house at the far end of the runway’s a good place to be even on a normal day. Neither aircraft will be carrying normal fuel load, passengers, or baggage. So the pilots get to fly a bit more than usual. On the other hand, the airport’s right in the middle of the town, so they have to keep the track tight and the workload will be correspondingly high. Sadly, it’s become very difficult to plan displays in urban areas since rules were tightened in 2015 and it’s reverted to its original focus as a trade show. The weekend public days have been dropped, and although the public can attend on Friday, it was the weekends which drew the crowds. Fond memories of that place. A380, B787, A400M, AV-8B, B-52H, B1-B, F35-B, V-22, BAe Hawk, Apache, and many, many others. B-52 got lost. Two days on the trot. USAF General giving the intro recovered well - we’re rolling out a block upgrade with improved navigation; that one’s clearly not had it. To be fair, it had flown in from Barksdale, and coming from wide open plains, who would expect two airfields to be within 5 miles of each other anyway?!?
