This movie is a classic. Period. Please don’t even consider remaking this or making a sequel, it’s perfect the way it is. This is one of my favourite movies of all time. It’s simply a movie done right, nothing could ever replicate it.

If you are the “cool kid” then you can do anything inclusive to bring everyone together…NOT TO DIVIDE them…many of us did and are confused as to the bully/cool kid/dweeb scenarios.

When Brian mentioned the Gun, Bender had this look. Then I remembered earlier, he did a mockingly idealistic impression of the Johnson family. Once he realized that Brian was basically emotionally and academically abused, he regretted it. I could literally tell the look in his eyes says "Well....fuck. I want to say sorry, but how do I say it while still looking like an asshole. Fuck I can't."

  • @lessthanthreemetal

3:52 Bender sees Brian as this perfect wunderkind and to hear that he considered suicide really opened his eyes.

Happy Birthday Molly Ringwald born on February 18, 1968. She is an American actress, writer, and translator. It's always bothered me that he disclosed a suicide plan and they all lighten up by laughing about how he botched it with the method. Then everyone else paired up romantically

Same here. It’s this really sensitive and serious moment where Brian opens up and allows himself to be vulnerable with them only for this moment to be squandered by a joke. This moment was apparently impromptu and so I guess we can’t really complain too much since they did an amazing job with this scene overall. But still, its always bothered me too and it definitely would’ve been nice to explore Brian as a character and person in general here, even explore mental health too. But oh well, it’s one of the few things that bother me about this film.

I remember watching this film at a very dark time in my life and after it I needed to step back and just think. The film honestly captured all the pressure and expectations for not only teens but also just kids in general. Especially Bender's backstory I can't imagine coming from a home life like that. This film is fucking amazing.

I watched this in middle school on TV in the late 80s and loved it so much, I practically memorized the dialogue. I watched many of his films while in ugh school and became a fan of John Hughes soon after. Now, as someone who is almost 50, an English teacher of over 20 years, a parent, and a lifelong lover of film, I appreciate this surburban teen masterpiece on many levels. So blessed I grew up with the sensitivity, talent, and creativity of John Hughes.

This movie was always bull shit. It was bull shit because none of these people would ever have had this absurd bonding experience in the first place. Not because they hated the other people - but because they didn't care. This movie overly emphasizes how much these people care about being in their clique and not in one of the others. Yes - The Princess might care because she was part of the Popular People - which might include the Jock - but no one else would care that much. For the Popular People - for some of them, being more popular than everyone else - was what their group was all about. So they really care. *_Some_* of them exist in terror that they will some how find themselves - Not Popular. For the others - they weren't that popular anyway. So they wouldn't really care that much about what other Not Popular People were doing. The other thing about most of the Popular People IRL is that they were mostly actually nice kids. They liked everybody and so everybody liked them. That and they were pretty like the Cheer Leaders so everyone wanted them to like them. The thing was - the Cheer Leaders were elected by the students. So - everyone of them was there - because the students had voted for THEM to be Cheer Leaders - and they ALL really appreciated that. They liked everyone and everyone liked them. And - this was something that had been going on since some of these kids were in elementary school together. There were some people that everyone just really liked - because they were really nice people. Mostly though all this Sturm Und Drang - is over emphasized here. And lastly - most of these kids would know people who were in college - where most people really don't give a shit about any of this stuff any more anyway. In Elementary and Secondary School - you've been going to school with the same kids all your life. You had a bunch of Elementary Schools, that all fed into a certain Jr. High School or Middle School - and then a bunch of Middle Schools that fed into a central High School. So along the way - you've gotten to know more and more kids for a gradually increasing amount of time -but - this time was measured in years. So - you can have these cliques that form - and stay formed. In college - you're going to school with people from all over the world and the very last thing most of these people care about - is anything that happened before College. So ... all this is pretty much bullshit. Mostly - they were in the cliques they were in - because they wanted to be - and they didn't really care what other people did. They overly dramatize all this stuff because if they didn't - they wouldn't have a movie. .

Even if the 'class conscience' got the best of them after this, they all vented, they shrugged off a lot of weight, and it's a day they'd remember for the rest of their lives.

Emilio absolutely killed it in his monologue. Such a raw scene and so rare to see a “bully” character reflecting on their actions and being truly ashamed. Acknowledging the torment he inflicted on a kid for absolutely no reason and coming to terms with why he’s the way he is on the spot. You can see pure catharsis as he lays it all out

@@omarbernal2408 well my fellow Capricorn you still might be a shade off in age from understanding but I will give it a go Simply put its about stripping away assumptions and images about one another...before that Saturday these kids would never have even looked at each other before let alone talk and expose their inner selves and their fears None of them have a happy home life and school is their only escape from that yet in each of their little cliques they don't really fit in those either feeling they have to conform because that is what is expected of them Yet within a few short hours all what they feel they have to be is put aside and see each other as people not just as representives of cliques They learned this before the principal did...they no longer see people as they wanted them to be but as people period
