When I was in Paktika in 2009-2010, everybody was a "resistance fighter with many kills" until the shooting started, and then all of a sudden, it was only the NATO forces shooting back. The older generation were legit fighters for the most part, but the ones from my generation were only there for a paycheck, which may or may not come. I was on a patrol once where we took 3 rounds of incoming rifle fire and the entire platoon of ANA soldiers with us refused to get out of their vehicles until WE stopped the "attack." Anything that wasn't locked up would be stolen and I mean ANYTHING. Their special operations forces were badass, but the regular ANA or ANP I personally dealt with were corrupt, lazy, and almost constantly high on hash or opium. I know I'll piss off people by saying that, but that was my experience.
