Alexis Korner's 50th Birthday Party, erschienen als "The Party Album" gefilmt in den Pynewood Studios in London für den Rockpalast am 19.04.1978, leider nie auf DVD erschienen und auch seit 1984 nie wieder gesendet, die CD ist auch vergriffen...
Dabei ist dies ein wirklich denkwürdiges Konzert gewesen, da Alexis viele seiner Schützlinge dabei hatte, wie Dick Heckstall-Smith, Eric Clapton, Chris Farlowe oder Paul Jones um nur wenige zu nennen.

Always the "artful dodger" Steve @ 00:56 -00:58 turns & flips the bird (multiple times) at one of the stage crew, smiling all the time... A kiss on the forhead of the little girl, an autograph, a little hug for "and friend", i believe this embodies Steve as a human being!!!

Essentially 2 full bands playing the same song, with one fantastic bass player covering both bands. You're not gonna see a band play like this again in a long time !

Colin's lovely melodic bass line gets me every time I watch this clip. I recorded this on VHS off the telly, I think it was from the Dickie Dirts Jazz festival perhaps?

Die Inspiration die von diesem Mann ausgeht ist so enorm, dem Leben zugewandt und offen ... ich kann förmlich die Rippen seines Spiels fühlen. Seine wenigen überlieferten Worte haben mir einen vollkommen neuen Blickwinkel auf mein eigenes Verhältnis zur Musik geschenkt. Long live Alexis Korner, Papa Blues 🌻🌹

Dieses kleine Stück hat ebensoviel Blues wie Albert Collins' If trouble was money. Und Alexis' akustische Kraft und Pose sind grandios. Ebenso der 'Erzähler' und das Bühnenbild. Wynton Marsalis hat den Blues einmal mit Antagonistic Cooperation beschrieben. Wenn Sorgen Geld wären könnt' um die Erde ich fahren und mir bliebe noch 'ne Menge zum Sparen. Ich glaube seine wunderbar artikulierten 'Narrations' im Rahmen der wenigen Interviews die ich erhaschen konnte faszinieren mich noch mehr als sein Singen (oder war es Bluesrap). Eine für mich überaus herrliche Aufnahme ist 'Alexis Boogie' mit B.B. auf London Calling. Wenn er am Anfang 'Okay' einzählt greife ich immer mit zur Akustischen, ob ich eine dahabe oder nicht. Alexis, ich wünsche Dir geistreiche Gesellschaft, gute Zigaretten und bestes Tonholz in Deinem alten Londoner Eck das ewig im Zeitgefüge musiziert ☮️🌻️:)

Ein richtig guter Text! Sein Vater war laut Wikipedia Österreicher und er selbst 1947/48 in Hamburg als Soldat stationiert. Komisch, daß dieses Lied in Deutschland völlig unbekannt und nie gecovert worden ist.
