Eventbrite is a rare one that I've seen honor resold VIP/Deluxe tickets for Galaxycon. I bought a resold deluxe badge last year and I was still able to get into the shorter lines for photos ops, etc. As a vocaloid enjoyer, the twins are my babies and (in my biased opinion) the ones with better songs/tuning. Oh, tuning also refers to how well a producer/song writer is able to control the software that the vocaloids voices are on. This can range from how they can control the robotic voice, realistic breaths, and the vibrato they create. But I'm sad they're opting to cheap out the experience :( it's been a dream of mine to watch a Miku concert live and get to sing/dance along to the unique songs vocaloid fans create. I'm sure it's the same for other fans! I've usually had to watch playbacks either here on youtube or on Nico Nico Douga(japanese youtube) to watch the concerts.
i literally dropped my pen and parasocially waved at you when you mentioned the artists listening to you as a podcast i giggled a bit and went back to work
It's also important to mention that there was a communal login made for the page and then THEY PUT A SCREEN LIMIT on the page to eliminate password sharing. Like what. You had to program that after you saw what was happening. I also fully believe their site is going to collect and sell their followers' data for an extra buck
Even as someone who dousnt agree with the whole "bigger productions made them worse" sentiment and still enjoyed several of the "Watcher era" episodes, yeah, this was NOT it
I watched and loved Buzzfeeds unsolved. I was excited for the Watcher and regularly viewed their content... I also pay for youtube premium so I technically already pay to watch their content. I'm not sure what their revenue from that is but my impression is that in some way they're getting money from people already. Not including their expensive merch, live shows, patreon, and their sponsorships.. They realistically don't need 25 employees. Now, I am not inclined to watch their content and have been turned off by their baseless assumptions .. even if they apologized I'm not convinced of this being a move done out of genuine remorse or merely a financially motivated one.
I can't stress enough how well Buzzfeed Unsolved's simplicity worked. Yes, budget helps, but the content's core is the backbone, more money does not necessarily mean better. My hot take is I think their Watcher equivalent series to Unsolved are over produced.
I know Shane and Ryan because of Buzzfeed Unsolved and I continued watching Watcher because of Puppet History by Shane and Ryan. However, once they finished doing Puppet History and they explored other things, especially by Steven, I kinda stopped watching their channel
My 10 yr old would love the naruto park
In the words of Jacksfilms, “We’re all just assholes talking to a camera”
26:20 GIRL I LOOKED UP FROM MY DRAWING SO FAST JUST SHOCKED 😭😭😭
One of my good friends was hell bent on getting me into their content. The week before the announcement, I told her I’d watch whatever video she sent me on my flight. The day of the announcement she texted me “never mind” and honestly I might have been a fan but for sure not anymore e
literally cooking chicken alfredo while watching this LMAOOOOO
17:37 Yeah, completely ad-free FOR NOW lol
This literally sounds like the 3rd party booking site "Day Use" which gives you from (give or take) 10am to 6pm
Amanda really did get it right that I watched this video to watch her discuss this whole drama. Like I know this was drama, but only barely knew why. Like I know who Ryan and Shane were because they were the believer and skeptic duo, but their content wasn't what I enjoyed. But man, just hearing the break-down. They have 25 employees???!??! Why do you need so many? I under maybe 10 you know they need people to film, edit, and sound. But WHY SO MANY? Also, it really did seem that they expected their audience to say, 'Okay! We'll pay for this once free content on your paid site!" Did they not see what happened to RT?
Hi, it’s me, an artist playing this as a podcast who was ready to hear you talk about something I barely care about (barely knew about the drama and only vaguely knew it was related to buzfeed unsolved which I didn’t watch)
Listening from my Potato
I primarily watch for your very pleasant speaking voice.
when you said "people who are artists who are not even watching this video right now" I literally looked up in shock because I was in the middle of drawing and had just been listening to you like a podcast for the last 25 minutes lol. hit the nail right on the head
"goodbye the poor" had me on the floor
I mainly stuck around for puppet history, mystery files, Are You Scared, and Survival mode. I can't imagine any of these need to be particularly expensive. Are You Scared is one of my favorites and it's just readings of short horror stories in the dark with illustrations over it. Survival Mode is your standard let's play. Puppet History and Mystery files would need more research and editing but not an extravagant amount. There's channels that are fully about weird and unsolved happenings or odd historical stories and do just fine. They really mismanaged their funds and resources and greatly misjudged what their fans actually enjoy. It just reads greedy and stubborn.
With how much bigger they wanted to go, reaching television caliber productions, they would have eventually put ads on their streaming service anyway.
Been meaning to take a gander at the situation, and am blessed with another Swell informational banger
Oh. Shit. I'm one of those artists that's just listening to you as a podcast LOL So, uh, hi! You're one of a handful of creators I can put on and listen to while I work on my projects, because I don't have to pay attention to a video so I can understand what's going on.
I can't help but think a part of it is because they missed their Buzzfeed days. The benefits of being able to go almost anywhere to do something as mundane as eating an expensive meal for no extra personal cost except having to make a video good enough to please the bigshots of a multi million company. (Dunno if Buzzfeed is still that though rn). I mean, us is a big country. They can also easily go to other countries nearby like Canada or mexico. They're not wanting for lack of new content.
So I've been watching Steven, Shane, and Ryan's content since their buzzfeed days AND watched them fairly regularly with Watcher (not every episode or every series, but I'd tune in pretty frequently) and what gets me is they keep going "oh we want to make bigger and better content" but in the four years since Watcher started.......... they haven't done anything ACTUALLY new. All of their content is is basically different versions of the stuff they'd do at buzzfeed, but with nicer cameras/sets. The most creative show is Puppet History, and even then it's just Ruining History but with a puppet. So the whole talk of wanting to create new stuff ring so so hollow to me at this point. Which don't get me wrong, I got nothing against youtube creators who make the same thing year after year. But typically those youtube creators are pretty up front about it! And also not trying to charge us for a streaming platform.
lol, I literally have no idea who 'Watcher' is. Just bored
I think for a lot of us, it doesn't matter how justified their reasons are, we can't afford it regardless. After rent, bills, healthcare, student loans, and food, I have $50 left a month. I'm not spending that on streaming 🤷♀
Absolutely DRIPPING in parasocial behavior
I got about 4 seconds into a watcher episode and immediately left. I never watched buzzfeed unsolved because that was a nightmare company. It was interesting watching these dudes nuke their reputation though.
Unpopular opinion but I don't like watching the Watcher's version of the ghost hunting series mainly because they added "testimonials". Might as well just have unpaid actors saying anything. Tbf I've only watch their earlier episodes like 4 or 5 and I just stopped watching them at all. Idk if it got better though.
im a vocaloid fan that just went to the expo in TX on the 24th. my bf and i were disappointed and concerned about the screen at first, but honestly had such a fun time and werent bothered by it at all once she got on stage. sure, seeing the hologram live was always a dream, but i thought the animation/rendering was honestly so satisfying. her facial expressions were awesome and it still felt like she was really there to us. i cried almost the whole show, so maybe im just biased. hearing those songs live and hearing the crowd singing along was very touching.
hearing about crunchy roll cutting corners suckeddd sooo badddd and crushed my hopes for a good minute. but i think if youre not looking for things to complain about, u could still enjoy the event. a lot of these songs are unlikely to be played live again, which is something that feels quite special to fans. we also dressed up in miku cosplays and took a micro dose of mushrooms, so the good time was going to happen either way.
I'm in the minority here but I have to say I'm baffled and a little offended by the amount of people whose main response to this appears to be "how DARE content creators want to be paid for their efforts. Charging anyone any money for the service you provide (entertainment) is classist elitist and entitled." And I know people are gonna come at me with "poor people deserve entertainment too," and yeah they do, but the fact that you deserve entertainment does not mean you are ENTITLED to anyone's efforts either. Just because Watcher started with free content doesn't mean they're bad people for transitioning to paid content. In what way is it fair to demand that of them? I hope everyone villainizing Watcher reserves that same vitriol for people in film and television who have never made ANY content for free.
Lmao artist here using u as a podcast
Never heard of these 'Watcher' guys. I'm just here to watch Swell ROAST their bad business practises.
yep, not watching just listening because your commentary is the reason I'm subscribed
there's a smoking gun re: removing their content from youtube - a variety article on the "goodbye youtube" video says that the company originally told variety they would remove the videos, but that Ryan later said that was not the case
I felt called out at you being so self-aware about who you are to your audience 😂 Anyways, I am personally not a true crime fan and even though I watched Buzzfeed Unsolved it was moreso for the people than the ghosts and crime stuff. I did love Worth it, but not because of Stephen, but rather Andrew. So I am definitely tuning in for the new food show with Andrew, but I wouldn't pay money to watch it. Lol I personally feel like fans of Buzzfeed Unsolved and fans of Worth It are not really like the same audience. Like, obviously there is some overlap, but generally - Stephen probably thought that a lot of new people will come over for the food show. However, he f'd around and found out I guess.
Artist here, listening to this like a podcast 😂 and I have no idea who these people are
"We got ghosts at home" got me 😂😂
I never even heard of watcher, I only bothered watching a video about them because you made one.
at around 26 min. LOL me painting with you in the background never heard of watcher. I know the Unsolved but not this separate you tube channel.
Listening to this video as a podcast as I apply to jobs because I’m a broke student lol
Listened to this while putting up a book case ❤
Swell, you're right. I use you as a podcast so often that I'm not actually sure what you look like, and I saw you for what must be one of the first times while I was writing this comment lmfao. I am, however, subscribed and I eat up every video
The funny thing with an audience, is how diverse we truly are. We all watch for our reasons and you really can’t predict how many will watch a thing and how many won’t. I’ve NEVER seen anything from the Watchers, it completely passed me by. I heard a few references from others and some sound clips other places I guess. But when I saw the explosion of their fan base from a distance I actually thought, ‘oh fun, Swell will definitely talk about this. I’ll wait for that.’ I genuinely enjoy hearing your opinions on things like this and I click on every ‘let’s talk about it’ vid I see. And usually I only click on con things if I’m wanting to decide to go to it next time or it sounds fun and I want to live through you, truly the ‘I did it so you don’t have to’ bit. All this to say, don’t know these guys but I love to hear your thoughts on them, please continue to be you and do this so I can listen while I work🫶🏻
No one wanted higher production value from them. They put that pressure on themselves.
I really hope Swell transitions her youtube experience into becomming a social media consultant in the future when eventually people stop watchinh her. I love swell I hope you have many more years as a creator, but I think going into consulting would be so smart for her. Her insight into the social media space, youtube audiences, and how what the people want is always so spot on and many of the companies she reviews would have benifitted from hearing from her.
Wow felt really called out as u were in the corner of my screen while i was drawing 😭
Every artist (myself included) in absolute shambles rn
