The Reality of Socialism: Denmark | Mini-Documentary
The Wall St. Journal’s Mary O’Grady, along with Fraser Institute Senior Fellows Steven Globerman and Matthew Mitchell, explore the reality of socialism in Denmark. Despite what some people claim, Denmark has a long history of embracing competitive markets, free trade, and limited government.
And while Denmark did experiment with socialist policies, including significantly larger government, from the 1970s to 1990s, that ended in crisis in the mid-1990s when the country was beset by high unemployment and soaring inflation.
To course correct, the Danish government reduced government spending, balanced its budget, and paid down the large debts it had incurred in the previous decades. Denmark...

Such a misleading take on the Danish model. It totally leaves out that through that high income tax, we get free health care, and education. With higher education being based on merit. So our little country does have a very socialist take on government spending, in a way you could say that Denmark is so small and homogenic that we take care of each other as kind of one big happy family. Big companies kind of edmit to being depending on the welfare state to have Healthy and highly educated workers with staple and safe lives, so they can be as productive as possible. And the population realize that they need big businesses to get good jobs. But i dont think our model could work in places like usa or gb. They are to big and could never reach our level of community and togetherness.

What this woman says is almost true. Denmark is ruled by a political ideology known as social democracy. They will increase and decrease spending and taxes in response to certain economic trends. Reduce taxes and increase spending if the economy begins taking a down turn, and decrease spending and increase taxes to pay off the deficit when the economy bounces back. It's a really simple concept. Better than American Republicans who respond to any situation good or bad by reducing taxes on rich people😂.

It is estimated that the average dane pays 75% of their income to the state through taxes or other means. (I'm danish myself) While it is true that denmark also has high social mobility meaning greater opportunity for all i strongly believe this is the case *because* of high government spending.

Denmark is not the worst, or the best. It has a higher tax on peoples income than uk and us. Sweden is among the worst. Denmark government spending is 50% of gdp. So it is quite socialistic. This create a damper on the economic freedom, because it make a lot of businesses not viable because of high tax and a burdensome regulations.

I am Danish, and this is a very narrow way of analysing my country. Denmark is a Social oriented country set in a world of capitalism. My dad said it best (80 year old former CEO in the energy sector) - "I have everything I need, why shouldn't i pay more, so that everyone else also have what they need?" Yes, we maintain our welfare state to support everyone and not only the top, as everywhere else.

Fraser Institute is a big business lobby pretending to be not-for-profit so the corporate donors get tax deductions for propaganda disguised as education. Considering they lied about their basic structure and purpose, their information is even less truthful.

I am impressed, learned people in this video still don't get it. We get something from our tax money. FREE healthcare, free education also in universities. We even get money from the state, when studying. We have very cheap medical drugs and more. These clever persons, in this video, should move to Denmark for a year and dive deeply into the Danish system. For a Dane, it is easy to hear they don't know much about Denmark or do they have an agenda?

"Denmark avoids borrowing." That is very logical. Don't spend more than you earn. In the end higher taxes but not borrowing money makes people more wealthy than lower taxes and borrowing money from other countries. Greece was all about borrowing money and low taxes and went bankrupt 4 times so far in last 50 years.
