The funny thing people are not talking about is that the friend who brought them there Pelle was also danny at a point, he said his parents were burnt by a fire and he found a new family here.

I just rewatched this movie for the 100+ time, it's my favorite, and I always like to dive into some video essays about it later to find new approaches to understanding it. I'm so glad I found yours. "The giant uncaring force of change"... You really have something to say, well done, bravo

Crucifixion was a brutal way to execute someone … and Mel absolutely didn’t hold back. I do give him credit for that although it wasn’t the most thought provoking adaptation of Christ.

I think people are getting it wrong. This movie isnt about cult.( they have added cultist elements ) Its literally Norse religion. (A form of it ) Paganism , not cult. ( much triba than culstist ) Sacrifices (the cliff jumping scene ) weren't as "powerful/useful " if not made by the willing. Pagans just live(d) by the natural cicle of life and death. They offered lives ( in this case, old people who had lived an ample and fulfilling life and that wanted to ensure the same for the rest of their community) to get life in return ( better crops or more wealth or etc ). Its like people are thinking that these practices stopped with the dawn of Christianity/Catholicism but they never did. And never will. Monotheistic religons will most likely end way before polytheism does. For example, vikings ( wich are very wrongly portrayed in cinema ) didn't fight/kill people in the name of their gods like some other religions... ( cough cough Crusades.. ) they fought for land and ressources and for their own honor and glory because for them that was the way to be worthy of their gods whom were according to their beliefs astoundng warriors. ( viking mythology, amongst others, is absolutely fascinating and extremely rich. Actually makes a lot of sense when you put it into perspective with their times and living conditions) . So yeah Midsomar isnt about a cult, but paganism.

Anyone else like the soundtrack? Its awesome. Loved the book, loved the movie, minus a few things but it was the best Sci-fi I'd seen in a long time.❤

Interesting format for a video. I like it. I think some people dislike it because they don't like the content to change. I understand, they like certain content for a reason and if that reason goes away, so does their interest. I think it's worth taking the risk to express your art in the way you want and I got a lot out of the format of this video. So thank you for this.

  • @aluminiumcan8566

the way i saw it, the movie was about vulnerability and the fear men often have of it as a man you are taught to never be vulnerable, to overcome it and come back victorious the Green Knight openly shown his neck to Gawain and he took it as a mockery of his masculinity before taking advantage of that vulnerability (almost as a punishment for showing it in the first place - this is what you get if as a man you leave your walls down) the journey though the forrest shows us again and again that no matter how strong Gawain thinks he is he is vulnerable (and like you said he only got through the "trials" after lingering on that vulnerability) when Gawain refuses to be vulnerable with the Green Knight we see what awaits him, what life would be like if he closed himself of from other people, if he followed that masculine ideal, he is left sad and alone, and forever terrified of being hurt and we see him choose the opposite, take off the protective sash and bare his neck, and he is rewarded for it (because as terrifying as vulnerability is, its not always as bad as you fear and it brings connection, deeper understanding) the film ending there makes sense, because by defying the masculine ideal, Gawain is going into this future blind but thus is just my interpretation and i have a feeling this movie was made to have multiple nuanced readings like the creator of the movie said, you bring a bit of yourself into it

I don’t like horror not sure why the algorithm gods sent this to me. I didn’t think that smile was joy I think she was broken.😞 Great review but I can’t see myself watching this.Dani is a tragic girl I also think she is the final girl. They are going to let her join because I think Pelle likes her in his very broken way. The did just loose four members. There’s room. I don’t think she can get away. She is not free also she looks like them. So I think he wants her to stay.

The style of the story was based on the Kurosawa film, but the story itself was a true story of the last legal duel in France during the middle of the 100 years war.

I actually do like this movie, as I do think it's important to see the violence He went through, but I think it's an issue when a parent takes a young child. I also yhink Christians shouldn't take it as gospel, as my own mother flipped out when I mentioned the violence didn't bother me too much. Basically accusing me of not appreciating Christ's sacrifice, simply because I didn't vomit at the movie. Now, I'm a Christian, so this honestly pissed me off that I was "non-appreative", because I didn't gawk at it's violence.

Ime this movie is visually beautiful but it wont stand out. The experience people have escapes me. To me its all over the place and nothing special. I loooove color out of space and lovecraft but to me, the impact simply wasnt there with annihilation.

I am not religious, although I was brought up as a Jehovah’s Witness… as a child, I always thought God was such a hideous parent to make his son go through this… even as an adult, I still don’t understand it… I realise I am looking at it simplistically, but.. does a deeper explanation make this ok? I obviously believe it is true, because it is one of the things that put me off Christian religion… I do not write this to be disrespectful to anybody’s beliefs, I am just explaining my own thoughts..

I can't be the only one who thought that Christian didn't deserve his end. He was basically roofied and coheresed into sex before he was stuffed in a bear and cooked alive. Was he toxic? Sure. Should he have broken up with her instead of stringing her along for so long? Yeah. But I think it's because he thought it would have been crueler to break up with her during the literally worst point of her life. I'm not going to sit here and say he didn't gaslight her and he wasn't emotionally unavailable but his death was heinous and they would have both avoided their fates if they had been honest with each other.

idk I could have seen the movie for what is tho I wish there was look into the horror of it. I mean I didn't find it scary but sometimes funny especially when they 'drugged' them with the tea and they still stayed. I think tho that's when the manipulation started, cause when they killed that person infront of everyone should have been the very first sign to pack up n leave, I was laughing so hard like...why would they just stay after seeing that :) The ending with the smile was the creepiest part of the movie lol even tho she looked cute

10:39 that interpretation can be handled quite differently from person to person. You realize this isn't just a 'man', right? The imagery of the church symbolism shows us what the man really is. It's not a man at all.

  • @PinkWasAlreadyTaken

I think this is a pretty good movie. I do really enjoy that the movie isn't really criticizing Christianity but is more of a dive into the beliefs of Maud. I agree with what you were saying in the end and personally I see the story as some kind of irony. The fact that she sees herself as so devout and saintly yet she goes against the things that Jesus teaches. She hates her neighbors, she isolates herself, she murders an innocent woman, and in a weird twist of self loathing she becomes enveloped by narcissism. This was a great video!

  • @jackhasbadopinions4262

I don't think Gawain's "conforming" to the Green Knight's standard for masculinity is secretly another moral failure. I think the movie takes great lengths to make it seem admirable, and it is. The Green Knight is a masculine figure -- he is the most masculine figure, the biggest, the strongest, literally an embodiment of the unending force of time. He is, by all accounts, a masculine figure for Gawain to look up to. But he also shows vulnerability, kneeling before Gawain, allowing himself to be hurt. Gawain resists this idea, spending the whole film clinging to his belt of invulnerability. His quest to be a traditional man puts him through the wringer and shows failure after failure of his character. He is unable to resist temptation, survive the elements, or earn the respect of others. By the end of the film, he finally discards his sash, choosing to be vulnerable -- and, therefore, honorable -- for the Knight. For this act, he is not killed, but spared -- when the Green Knight says "Off with your head" he is referring to the removal of Gawain's ego. The man he was is now dead, replaced by a better, more honorable man. Sure, this is only one small act -- but it is indicative of an ability to change. He becomes like the Green Knight, a symbol of the ever changing natural world, and finds a new masculinity in his moral strength.

Janitor here, can confirm that the job often times doesn't suck as the employers/coworkers do more. TL;DR of my career so far without writing a novel is, I had a boss that noted down less hours to pay me less and a drunk older dude who got away with literally everything seemingly scot-free. He was let go finally after cleaning companies changed due to a mountain of complaints. New bosses kept him for a bit and ignored all the warnings of his prior actions including assault on me. No, really. They even found the smallest excuses to give me less money and rely on him more because of our age differences. New bosses accused me of breaking something, showed proof, their proof was proof I didn't do anything. After I did a few checks here and there there was no evidence of me breaking anything at all. When showing proof the boss even admitted the thing I broke was unstable. I got angry and threatened to leave. The very next day they tried interviewing some schmuck to replace me and either he declined or their waiting for an opportunity to get rid of me. They started asking me to do more work and try to fit it in my work hours to avoid having to pay for overtime, then again the work hours are below 6 so idk. A certain coworker that ran away from another certain unnamed country at conflict with another cried to the boss I took breaks even though I'm not getting paid that much and managed to do work just fine. Kicker is the boss is still to this day OK with me going for smoke breaks, just not coffee or browsing the web on my phone kind of breaks. Imagine running away from a war zone you caused by voting in a moron to then go to different soil to be a nuisance there. I asked the technician working there if I could use old leftover chemicals from my old employer since they were stronger and could perhaps do the quality of work they wanted me to somehow perform on old crusty neglected loading docks. I admitted I was only asking and that I haven't used them with our current equipment yet. The technician told my boss the opposite so while I was being berated for breaking something I didn't they also said I'm essentially "improvising work" I clarified over SMS to both of these people I was only asking and had never done so. Technician pretended he didndu noffin, the boss straight up ghosted me. Since I don't have a lot of xp with cleaning equipment I use at work I ended up not cleaning them properly. My new employers didn't ask me about my experience and didn't really bother to make sure I knew how to properly maintain them and were shocked to find them trashed. Of course the only one they yelled at was me and not the certain coworker that also used one of them and didn't as much as clean the used water tank or even set the machine to charge. Really gotta wonder why old people are shocked no one wants to work at all.

I might have been tripping but I'm almost certain i saw Gawain's mother's face in the green knight's at the end. along with Arthur's. like both of these authority figures have their own ideas of who Gawain should be
