The reason Nigerian citizens and companies are not respected abroad is because the Nigerian government is always degrading their own. No one will place you above where you place yourself. I don't know if these people are lying to themselves or they are just clueless when they talk about improving the value of Naira. Do they forget that Nigeria has only ONE major export commodity on the spot market? If Nigeria had 10 million people, it will be a different story. A country of 218 million people is subsisting on one major revenue source, so, the only way to raise value of the currency is to diversify the country's export. And the only way to diversify Nigeria's economy is to decentralize the economic system. At the moment, Nigeria crippled itself with centralized economic system that makes every State equal, thereby hindering advancement, and nationalizing poverty. When the British handed over power to Nigerians, there were pyramids of export produce such as peanuts. There were miles of cocoa warehouses. There were vast tracks of palm oil plantation, as well as vibrant mining industry. The country flourished with regional development, whereby each region or State develops their own natural resources or products, and controlled their resource revenue. This is the only way Nigerian economy will diversify, create economic opportunities, and rescue Nigeria from further descent into insecurity and chaos. That is the practice in advanced economies. Instead, Nigerian government finds easy to control the resource revenue of one State, and distributes it to other States. Such practice would be unthinkable in America or Canada.
