I'm trying to wrap my head around how JFM, a Minimalist, knows all of the (I presume) designer jean names cited between 4:20 and 4:30? 😀 What if one buys something for their Fantasy Self, but not to impress others, is that still for themselves? I've done far too much of that (almost always guitar gear for me) and it doesn't make me happy for very long.

I just went to the doctor. My cholesterol was 298. My ldl was 203. HDL is 85. My new doctor that I met once wanted to prescribe a statin. She never asked me about my diet or activity level. I recently lost thirty pounds since starting keto and intermittent fasting three weeks ago. I also tasted before the blood test. How can a doctor prescribe medication with out know your full history. I went in there for a sleep study and instead received a prescription for anxiety meds and a statin. I canceled my next appointment. Edited to add I’ve never had a heart attack or any other health issues.

A recent Doctors visit said my Colesterol level was 6.0 and asked me if I wanted to go on Statins , I said no ! I did a home test today and my Colesterol level is just over 7.0 ? I am starting to get more active now , I have never smoked and don't drink Alcohol .

I had a series of strokes in my late thirties, but unlike Jeri, physical items do not spark memories, so I was able to dispose of LOTS of stuff and I am totally different now, it's like I was born a 39 year old. It is strange to say it, but becoming handicap made decluttering so much easier.

I am being begged to be put on statins as i have high cholesterol of 6.4 and Lipoprotein over 1500 plus an autoimmune RA - so my Doctor and the private surgeon said it's a deal breaker to go on one - i try to avoid medication and wish there was a better way. I don't smoke or drink try to lead a healthy life want to show life can throw us lemons -! My confusion is the lipoprotein, which they now attribute to heart disease - does anyone have any advice on lipoprotein-a?

My key motivator toward a minimalist lifestyle is simply being aware of the ammount of garbage I produce. Once you take stock of yourself and what you really need its fairly easy. There's more to it though - I want to make up for my impact on the Earth and live in a balanced state.

Wonderful episode! May I give some feedback to Josh, cause I admire that he is so open to feedback so hopefully he will not get upset with this: I think the phrase "I took TK and Malabama to the shops", I mean just the "I took" instead of "we went to the shops with...", sounds a little patronizing and "I am their boss"ey, we are not equal. I know you are a great boss to them though, Josh, it's obvious. Thank you guys, loving what you do! I read "Love People Use Things", so good👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I am coming to this a year late, so this comment might not get any traction, but to some extent, I don’t appreciate it when successful people pretend not to know what the latest model and trends of cars are. A lot of us want to be successful in order to afford our passions and hobbies and interests; it doesn’t speak well to striving for success when sometimes that mindset is represented in being out of touch. It is fine to have other hobbies and interest, but for me, the hellcat joke fell flat on its face while I am not interested in that platform/type of vehicle, there are others that I am very interested in, which would still cost close to a similar amount. And if I was successful with the amount of money that I would want to be making, that would be a reality that I could make happen.

Doctor just said I'm at 130 LDL. Recommended I be sub-100. I'm very fit and more muscular than 90 percent of people, but I travel a LOT. Without me even admitting it, the doctor's office said "stop going through drive-thrus/reduce fried fatty meals." If it keeps going up, they'll recommend medication. No more McDonald's for me I guess. Not a bad wake up call.

  • @southernyards2152

Until the Medical Frills can figure a way to make Trillions of dollars each year from grounding - they'll ignore the healing results as they do cancer. Unless it's Drugs, Surgery, Therapy & Treatments most doctors are no different than attorneys.

Here's the perspective ref: 1st question: when online shopping, we shop pictures, not items. Why do we crave pictures? Isn't it like picture consumption on fb, insta or pintrest? I've been guilty of that too, but now more aware of it.

Okay I came here thinking my bf was a hoarder but I think he's more of a maximalist. I'm a recovering hoarder working towards minimalism. We moved in our first appartment together a few months ago and its a small space, and we have to make do with few storage space. This pushed me into the direction of minimalism like my life depended on it bc when we started settling in, i was overwhelmed ALL THE TIME, and I couldnt get my partner to get rid of his stuff too and it was really frustrating at first, amd we wouldnt even have this problem if our space was bigger, but we cant afford bigger. I'm glad I was able to find some insight in your podcast. I love my boyfriend, and with me reducing my possessions i feel like its easier to let his take a bit more space if it makes him feel safe, it's his home too after all. Thank you.

LDL is not bad if it is large and fluffy. That is what is normally left after the VLDL delivers the dietary fat to tissues. That is large and fluffy. The small, damaged particles r dangerous. Small damaged LDL does not get re-absorbed. Doesn’t fit into system. This builds up. The cause…. PROCESSED SUGAR, INSULIN RESISTANCE, STRESS... not enough antioxidants! These damaged LDL particles cause the atherosclerotic plaques. Insulin resistance causes the problem of cells not being able to absorb the dietary fats, and then we have more of the messed up, damaged LDL. Doctors never go at the source of the problem and then they dont even try and figure out what the % is of good to bad LDL by size. I dont get it. They dont seem to care about the source of the problem. Weird. Need more engineers as doctors or thinkers, not just parrots of the system. It is sad IMO. Cmon, you can do a lot better. Think health, not just drugging. What caused this? Think more. i want a breakdown of my LDL!

All this talk about high LDL but if your on a plant based diet that worry goes away completely. I have been plant based for 4 years and my LDL is 35….. This conversation trying to justify eating large amounts of meat is just absurd.

  • @pbziegler

I didn't even have high LDL. All my markers are excellent. I have wanted to get off statins because since I've been on them I have watched my A1c go into pre-diabetic zone. I told my dr I wanted to stop taking statins and she said no way because of my risk factors. What risk factors I asked. My age, 82. That's it. Well I stopped my statins despite her recommendation. After 3 months I had my A1c tested again and now I am no longer in the pre-diabetic zone. And my HDL/Triglyceride ratio is 1 to 1. And now on a very low/healthy fat (no seed or vegetable oil) diet. Losing weight and feeling 20 years younger.

  • @davidgriffin6724

No, this IS an indictment of those people. They are financially stupid. I havent had a car payment for at least 8 years and I will never have another one. I will drive a beater any day instead of having car payment.
