6:09 I met someone from S. Korea and he mentioned meeting a S. Korean female lawyer who didn't look 100% Korean. Lighter skin tone and slightly different facial feature etc. Turns out she was a descendant of Hamel. She knew of it and shared that's how she looks slightly different. She was practicing law within the S. Korean legal system. The story I heard is that now the descendants of Hamel in S. Korea are generally prosperous. They number about 2000 or so I heard.

종로는 아무래도 물자 교류의 중심이기도 했고, 여전히 광장 시장 안에 원단 시장이 남아있기도 하죠! 그래서 옛날부터 결혼 산업?의 중심이기도 해서 보석상이 많이 몰렸다고 공부했던 것 같아요. 거기에 더해서 보석같은 큰 돈이 도는 동네가 되니까 야인시대 김두한 같은 분들이 활약하는 동네가 되기도 하고,, 한양의 중심이었던 동네이니만큼 종묘부터 사직까지 역사성 짙은 흔적이 많이 남아있단 점에서 이런 동네의 지역성을 서울시가 잘 보존해줬으면 좋겠는데, 오로지 CBD의 특성과 자본의 논리로만 동네가 해석되고 재개발 되는 것 같아 서울시민으로서 마음이 거시기해유ㅠㅠ 을지로와 더불어 영상을 보는 내내 웃지못하는 편이네요😢

저 봉제 전시관도 이제는 문을 닫았어요 흑흑 창신동 언덕 밑은 봉제산업의 중심이기도 하지만, 창신동의 지역성 자체는 절벽마을에서 비롯된 것이라고 생각했어요. 이제는 다 알게되셨을지 모르겠지만, 한양을 지키는 좌청룡 낙산의 기반암인 화강암을 캐내던 채석장으로 이용된 동네이기도 하고 공부할수록 배우고 싶은 동네더라구요! 그렇지만.. 지금 서울 시장님은 저 동네마저도 재개발을 계획하고 계셔서 앞으로 어떤 변화가 생길지 모르겠네요😢 아무튼 매번 이렇게 누군가는 허름하다 말할 수 있는 서울의 골목길을 영상으로 남겨주셔서 고맙습니다! 지리 전공자로서 보물같은 채널 잘 보고있어요!

I had a friend who once rented an apartment above one of the butcher shops in Majang-dong right next to the market when I lived in Korea. She was a foreigner as well who got a great deal on price because of it was above one of those shops. It was quite scary the first time I visited her place (late at night as well) because I remember seeing carcasses in the back alleyway as the butchers were cleaning shop, but I came to like the neighborhood knowing there isn't anything quite like it in Seoul.

This is fascinating. I've been there twice before and after it got famous, but I didn't know any of the history you shared to us. That 2.8m street gives all the charm squeezing ourselves to walk past another passerby, exchanging eye contacts, strolling slow cuz you can't get ahead of one another. It then allows us a longer moment to see the courtyards, smell breads and hear other's convo. The beauty of Ikseondong lies in its own scale.

I didn't intend to post something mean to you but colonialism part cannot be skipped. Just like Korea, Indonesia declared the independence after Japanese defeat, but Dutch went on to kill more than 100,000 Indonesians in order for them live under Dutch colony forever. Thankfully, recently Dutch king has made an apology for brutal killings, kidnapping, slave trades, and force labour they have done, that's not enough for victims. Unless you can sympathize for victims and their sufferings talking about colonialism is just not right subject for you to discuss. Unless you have a full knowledge of history human rights abuses and discrimination against their own citizens. I think Dutch king is really brave to accept the truth but that’s kind of beginning after 70 years of paint brushing history.

고맙습니다. 중화동에서 자라서 신설동에서 중고등 다니고 회기동에서 대학다니고 청량리 예식장에서 결혼했습니다 ㅎㅎ. 84년에 미국으로 이민와서 40년 동안 아직 못 가봤네요 ㅎㅎㅎ

재건축, 재개발은 언제나 마음이 아픕니다. 저도 지금으로부터 20여년 전에 살던 집 (지금의 광흥창역 주변) 을 둘러싼 동네 블럭 자체가 사라지고 아파트 단지가 들어서서 이제는 그 옛날 골목길을 다시 가보고 싶어도 그럴수 없다는게 안타깝습니다. 2003년 어느 봄날, 정든 집에 꼭 필요한 짐 빼고는 다 집에 그냥 둔 채로 버리듯 이사하고 2~3주 후에 가본적이 있었는데, 영상에 나오는 재건축을 앞둔 집들처럼 가구며 문짝 창틀 같은게 마구 뒤섞여 폐허처럼 된 모습에 망연자실했던 기억이 나네요. 사라지는 것들은 언제나 아쉽습니다... 그래도 덕분에 옛날 서울의 모습들이 영상에라도 남게되어 다행이네요. 지금부터 수십년 후에 바트님 영상 보며 서울의 옛 모습을 추억하는 사람들이 많을거라 믿어요. 오늘도 영상 잘 봤습니다!

I thought Dutch are cool and known for directness and thought that was the case. Point is Netherlands is the pioneer who invented the colonialism (and also the socialism) everyone in Korea learns from the textbook. Dutch Nazi Party comprised 10 percent of Holland’s population at some point is well known. Unlike Germany, Netherlands have never apologized to Holocaust and what they’ve done in Indonesia (as far as I know part of Dutch culture is to never say sorry). South Korea has been a victim of colonialism and saying those vestiges as if those were beneficial in some way for Korea is not only rude but not appropriate. Not sure if you have real Korean friends but want to suggest. Majority of Dutch don’t want to apologize for slave trades at all (actually they ruined the monumental statue last year) but that’s complete ignorance for those who are victims. If you have colonial prides like most Dutch do, please just leave this country.

정말 저는 영상이 좋은게 앞으로 서울뿐만 아니라 이 시대의 대한민국 모습을 볼 수 있는날이 길어야 10년 20년 이라고 생각이드는게 어르신 분들 돌아가시면 정말 이런 모습이 사라지는게 재건축이아니더라도 1년도 안걸리고 사라지던데 이미 시골은 사라졌고요 심지어 새로 지어지는 동네는 LH에서 계획한 도시여서 동탄이든 평택이든 김포든 솔직히 어느 동네에서 찍든 구분이 안될정도로 똑같습니다. 그래서 영상으로 사진으로 조금이나마 남겨놔야 한다는 생각이 있는데 이걸 한국인도 아닌 타지에서 오셔서 남기고 있다는게 정말 감사하고 한편으로는 미안하네요. 영상 정말 감사하고 앞으로도 힘써주시면 감사하겠습니다.
