Three years is a long time. Also, the sentence was 3-15 years assuming that if she was on good behavior and did not seem she needed the extended years, she was let out. She is able to learn from what she did, we cannot treat every single person who has committed a crime like they’re incapable of learning. You cannot hold this woman to a serial killer, there is a reason for this sentencing. She took someones life, therefore her life was spent for three years in prison.
If that was a man we all know he wouldn't get 3 years.
While I think the minimum time should have been more, if the Defendant didn't have any previous criminal convictions and Plead Guilty, State Law might strictly limit possible sentencing. She still got 12 years on Parole, and it wasn't Intentional Homicide, but I think she still should have gotten at least 10 years before Parole.
@Way2Spooky4U I don't think you truly understand how long 10 years are. There's a famous saying and it goes something like this: "One number is a tragedy but a thousand is just a statistic/number." You're falling into the same trap here. You just see 10 years and think "oh. 10 years" without actually processing how long that is

I tell you quite literally that is the opposite of what the US says. Obviously, each judge is an individual with their own place on the spectrum of optimism-cynicism and thoughts on punishment cs reform, but I watched a documentary where the attorney or judge, idr, said he would rather send innocent men to prison, than one guilty man go free.

From what I heard that had a better ending than most though, I believe that guy got out and the Judge met him when he did and he got a job and cleaned up his life
I genuinely teared up at the man sobbing in reuniting with a middle school classmate.
That realization must've felt like a kick in the balls, or a fistful of reality to the face that he was a good kid, and was on the right track, but substances steered him away in the wrong direction into being faced with a school friend through one of the worst possible ways.

Wasnt the judge from the initial trail. My dad was the probation officer that processed him the day he was arrested. He told me he was a good kid trying to act tough by saying he did the crime, but he knew he and his cousin hadn't committed the crime. My dad hated that particular DA, investigator that were in the first trail. DA was adamant of just having a crime "solved" for political reasons, like many DAs unfortunately are.
They had circumstantial evidence, but DNA science has come a long way since 1992. Quite a few people have been released lately after serving decades because DNA or lack of it proved they were innocent
