I went into this movie on a rainy day, experienced the film and when I left the theater it was clear and sunny. Immediately I said, HOW LONG HAVE WE BEEN IN THIS THEATER? 5 WEEKS? 2 DAYS? HELP ME TO RECOLLECT.

Although an Oscar, as with a Grammy, is ultimately hollow and meaningless. But an original movie getting recognition it deserves (especially in this, the decade of reboots/rehashes) is something I can stand by.

It's amazing watching a genius start to come alive, I imagine this is how it felt when Pulp Fiction was released. A promising director follows a great film up with a masterpiece.

@@DancinDane The Lighthouse isnt really any set genre. It has elements of all kinds of genres, and sits more firmly in the psychological horror camp, but not entirely. However yes, it is a masterpiece and is far better than The VVitch, vvhich is no small feat. I'm very excited for the future of this filmmaker when his very first film literally EVER was so fantabulous and his immediate follow up was legitimately one of the best films of all the timeses.

@@DancinDane I don't know why people say The Witch was scary. It wasn't scary to me almost at all (and I like scary movies and getting scared so it's not that I didn't open up to it quite the opposite). I liked it but I was also kind of disappointed because I went into the movie expecting to be scared shitless but at the end I had more enjoyment from the mystery than the horror. Wish they'd marketed the movie more in that direction maybe I'd hqve enjoyed it more that way.
Now The Lighthouse however. That was easily the greatest movie I have seen in YEARS. It's so good. I love when stories are coherent and self-contained. Everything had a purpose. Every scene was filled with meaning and every moment added to the mystery and atmosphere and story. It's all I want from a movie. Movies like this, Bladerunner 2049 and Silence give me hope. Cinema is alive and I'd go as far as to say it's better than ever. These amazing movies are more rare than in the past but they make up for it with their quality. I still have to watch Parasite. I've heard similar praise relating to it. Please more amazing risks Hollywood! Maybe someday the mainstream will start to recognize. We can hope.

This was seriously the best film I've seen in years. An absolute ride from start to finish. My friends and I left the theater speechless, and still feeling like we were trapped inside that world. This better win some major awards. Outstanding.

They built the set for this movie right next to the lighthouse in Yarmouth that my father first took me to when I met him at 13. This movie will always have a special place in my heart. Phenomenal.

@@cup_and_cone A friend of mine shown me the boxart of the Blu-Ray release of the film. It has a goddamn Rotten Tomatoes seal in the bottom right corner. How do you drop the ball this hard, lmao.
Suddenly became one of my favourite directors with just 2 films. Bring on whatever this guy brings next!

A Cinematic feat of genius
I didn’t realise how much detail and work went into making this movie, especially the set’s being built front the ground up. The budget must’ve been pretty high. I look forward to seeing this movie.

@Mike Fink Films They both displayed incredible craftsmanship. Of course Dafoe was more impressive to watch but that is also in part due to the characterisation of his role. Pattinson's character was more taciturn, withdrawn and subtle. Slowly but surely building up pressure which exploded during the final hours. His intensity towards the end was on a similar level to that of Dafoe but Dafoe was on full blast right from the get-go, that's what makes him so memorable. Both of these actors played at the very top of their game.
Pattinson has proven that he is much more than just a handsome lad, with eyes bright as a lady. Great actor.
This movie is a freaking masterpiece. Robert Eggers is a genius.

@@dildonius midsommer took 2-3 months to go to physical/digital after the theatrical, so probably mid December The Lighthouse will be released to us.

I agree, and it's disgusting how this film has been snubbed from all these award ceremonies... I think Parasite is a very close second.

I would have loved to support this movie but it didn’t play anywhere near my area. Which is odd because both of the theaters in town had Midsommar. I’m incredibly disappointed and will most likely watch it through Kanopy for free when I would have gladly paid to seen it in a theater within a reasonable distance.
I feel you man, my country is worse. It does show Midsommar, however it was 3 months late(premiere mid September in my country). Meanwhile I already torrent it, since I doubt Midsommar will ever show in my country. To made it worse, they cut some scene that ruining the story. And I agree this kinda movie was worth every penny I spent to watch it.
If you were willing to watch in theatres then buy or rent the movie. Well worth the money.

Oddly enough showtimes for this movie didn't show up physically at my theater. If you wanted to watch it you had to to get your tickets online. Maybe it was that type of case?
No trace of the movie here in Italy as well.. very odd since they released The Witch years ago.. hope it'll show up in the next months but I doubt it, so I'm patiently waiting fo the Blu ray to come out

It's a real shame that this masterpiece has not been nominated for more Oscars. It deserves to be nominated for Best Pic, Best Actor / Supporting Actor.
I hope this movie gets a speedy digital release. I'm itching to see it again. I haven't stopped thinking about it since I saw it in theaters, and that was nearly a month ago.
The color is making me more paranoid than the actual movie did.

A24 usually releases bluray edition 3-4 months after a movie has released theatrically. I'd say January or February by the latest.

Im Freebz I know it isn’t Blu-ray, but you can buy this on Amazon video or on Apple if you want to see it again/infinite times/want to be able to pause to catch something. That’s what I did since it was not playing anywhere near me.
The behind the scenes footage makes it look like they’re filming a completely different movie without the black & white colour palette
