Guys, come on. Literally all I did was compliment this person on their workmanship. If you think that someone else can do it better, then fuck off and go find that person, but sitting here insulting each other because I chose to compliment someone is absolutely stupid and unnecessary. Who cares if you've seen a better shoe? Who cares if you know someone who can do it better? Who cares if there are better craftsmen out there? If you click on this video and all you can think is "well I know of someone who..." then I suggest you find something better to do with your time. Thank you.
@@alexeykuznetsov9407 I didn't miss the point at all. And whoever said anyone here was becoming a "slave" to anything? All I did was point out how much work goes into this. That's it. That's all I did. Besides, Making shoes takes specialized equipment that not everyone has access to, so it's not as easy as just stitching a shirt together. Also, literally nobody asked anyway, so I don't even know why we're having this conversation.

I'm a software engineer. When I watch this kind of craftsmanship I have this deep feeling of inadequacy of my profession. I imagine when you are making shoes you know what comes next. This is when a deep feeling of purpose comes. There is nothing like it in making software. It's always new and in many cases comes a dreadful feeling of unknown and danger of failure. And this comes from a person who actually likes new challenges. Contestant novelty, constant process of learning, constant feeling that what I do might have been done better. I would substitute that with certainly and purpose any day. Watching videos like this give me solace.
I beg to differ. Even in software you're never in doubt if the code you're reading was made by a sloppy, indifferent or plainly unskilled person. And you can often times tell the difference quite clearly between the three. And then once in a while you run across some code where you just go "ah fuck.. I can only hope to become this good one day". Try and read over some of Linus' terminal code in the Linux kernel if you want to feel like a clueless noob :P

I make hiking boots in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California and am transitioning from making a cement bond boot to a hand sewn welted product. I have been building my boots around the plaster last I make for clients and like the idea of making another negative cast of the plaster last and pouring a more durable positive last; can you share what kind of compound you are using for your working lasts? is it an epoxy? I hope you are well and healthy and producing more great looking shoes!

Wooooow, a customised shoe last for every customer. This is called personalized service and creativity.
it's interestingly not crazy expensive. idk how much the maker of this video charges, but in central europe it's between the prices of zara and louis vuitton for the first pair, and then price of zara for every subsequent pair. (they keep your personal last.)

I can almost smell my grandfather’s shoe shop watching your video. He primarily repaired shoes, a nearly lost art today, but he did make custom shoes, too. I’m relying on the memory of a five or six year old kid, me, from over sixty-five years ago, and my memory is probably biased by the family connection, but yours look nearly as good as his did.
Just wanted to say hi from one cobbler's/shoemaker's granddaughter. I am in my 60s as well and all my life I have wanted to make shoes just because of that great smell. . .

You can just wear "men shoes". That is what I do. Human feet are not divided in male or female by how they work but just by what you choose to put on them.

If you buy quality (not the same as luxury brand) the shoes are incredibly comfortable and long wearing. I wear a 37

John Lobb make custom shoes at £2500 per pair for the most simple designs.
@@cormackeenan8175 And Lobb don't use thin shit leather that's then backed onto wear leather like the stuff used in this video. They use a proper quality and thickness from the start.
@@iatsd yeah, I was also somewhat surprised about the quality of the base materials used in manufacturing these shoes. Also surprised nobody seems to have commented on this.
Bespoke shoes are beautiful, but I wonder how long these will last.
@@jawaligt I think my real objection is that by choosing cheaper materials that require more work, the maker introduces the need for more steps to be done *perfectly*. If they fvck up *any* step at *any* point then the shoe will fail sooner. You simply don't get that by using better quality leather that reduces the steps/components.

Someday I will be able to afford such a shoe. It must feel like walking on a cloud or barefoot through a mossy meadow.
It's wonderful. I've had my shoes made for about 40 years. If it was a choice between bespoke shoes or suits it would be shoes every time. The difference in comfort is really noticeable. They last longer too. When my father died he had about 30 pairs in his wardrobe, some were about 40 years old.
@@mscott3918 indeed. I have some high quality off the shelf shoes that are 30 years old and still in first class shape. I don't buy cheap shoes anymore because they are not economical in the long run. A bespoke pair has to be exceptionally durable and comfortable, I would love to have at least one pair eventually. #lifegoals. 😁
@@tjsogmc Absolutely agree with you. I think it's true to say that, at least for shoes, the most expensive option is really the cheapest. I'm sure you will have your shoes made for you.

Колонковая машинка - это и есть специальный инструмент. Нужна она, в основном, сапожникам. Полуботинки еще как-то можно собрать на прямострочной, а ботинки уже нет.

@@vnmyagkov лапа для ремонта обуви. Там были варианты замены спец инструмента, но чтобы это понять, надо самому шить обувь))). А в целом, можно шить и руками, если времени много.
