i come from Germany and I am a lathe operator in CNC production.
I had to look twice to see that a sledgehammer is being used here on the lathe.

You will have easy time there, because their tolerances -and generally their products- stink.
Here in Canada, even junk cars like Hyundai/kia and basic cars like toyota last MUCH longer than german work, and are much easier and cheqper to fix. German quality used to mean something. Middle of the road quality is superio to german and Indian.
We make Toyotas and many other brands here in canada... a rav4 makes a Mercedes look like a fools toy.

In fact, the shaft has been fatigued and cracked long ago, and now it is repaired perfectly! The master turner is also a senior welder ! It's amazing! I wish him and his co-workers happiness and peace forever! This should be from Pakistan, right? Such a complex task is accomplished under such conditions, what kind of people are they! No it' not clever, it's stupid. What does this repair do to truck carrying capacity? None of them have a clue. Think of the potential consequences of that axle snapping again, it can easily end up with a nasty number of corpses on the highway. Nobody knows how good or poor that weld turned out until it eventually fails again. What are you taking that risk for? Entire replacement axle is certain to be dirt cheap.
This is the reason they stay poor, nobody will pay real money for their work until they learn that quality matters and hack jobs don't cut it in most industries.

aleksander suur I understand what you're saying, it's not legal in developed countries, and from that perspective, you're right. I think everything there is also market-oriented, so this is the result of choice. There must be low labor costs, although there are so good skilled workers. Judging by the large number of trims on the vehicle, local traffic should not depend on the highway. Judging from the damage to the shaft, it initially had defect cracks and then fatigue fractured slowly. So this kind of maintenance may last for a while. Of course, according to general technical standards, welding repairs are not allowed for shafts and tie rods, etc.

These guys work SO hard and with a minimum of tools, in open sandal footwear and not much in the way of safety gear. In a Western World country you wouldn't even be allowed to visit that Machine Shop unless you were wearing steelcap boots. Hey that 4 jaw, non-self centering chuck lathe at 5m25s, I used to use one similar to that and yes I had to centre the pieces I was working on like that too... that was more decades ago than I care to remember, but I loved working on that lathe. With a Tungsten Carbide tip tool I could really make it cut. Most of our lathes ran what we called "milk". It was a water soluble oil mixed with water, to lubricate and cool the cutting and make the cutting tools stay sharp longer. A basic pump cycled the "milk" around and collected it again from around the bottom of the lathe and then pumped it around again. We hardly ever had to re-fill the milk. Good to see the guy welding and guy assisting had dark handheld viewers but I wish they'd had proper Welding Helmets. Amazing how these folks in poorer countries get by with so much less than we have in the West. We are truly privileged (compared to the very poor people who live in many other countries).

They just have a different culture. These guys run the shop at a very low cost. They don't need tons of equipment and then make sky-high debt. Likely, their bottom lines are much better than many fancy shops in the debt and red-tape ridden privileged countries.

That's a repair that would not be attempted in my country (NZ), but if I had to do it I'd go about it exactly like that. Inevitably without re-heat-treating the axle there will be stresses left from the welding, but I see no reason why it won't serve well. The cost of the repair would be a fraction of the cost of new axle.
