Love your videos so much
Hi Anthony! Iโm a huge fan! And I love saying your intro with you!
It really pissed me off when Trump said that America had the lowest carbon emissions when in reality... WE ARE ONE OF THE LEADERS IN THE WORLD OF CARBON EMISSIONS!
well itโs trump, what would you expect
@@4sbel885 yeah, but spreading that kind of misinformation to the whole nation is super harmful
That's blatantly obvious if you just consider the size and population of the US in comparison to the rest of the world.
Well.. Alternative facts?
@@sleepykitty1745 no. Itโs totally wrong
Being a climate scientists is one of saddest jobs one can have. They know how and why the world is going into this crisis, but are struggling to do anything about it, because most people don't care.
The worst game of "I told you so" ever.
watch all the climate change deniers ask "why didn't they warn us" when the impacts of climate change hit us in the face (more than they already have)
I agreed but how do u suggest we solve it
Its not that people don't care its like the example Anthony used, if people could go on Amazon and see the environmental impact of their purchase before they buy, if they could see all the plastic waste, if they could see the dirty and dark pig pen factory farms use on the label of their meat before they buy it. Out of sight out of mind, slavery never ended they just created mass incarceration. Slavery and capitalism go hand in hand, only moving from a for profit economy to one that prioritizes people and the environment can make the difference we need to combat climate change. The system of neoliberalism is often covert and insidious.

Thank you for giving voice to the scientists. We have been having a real hard time for these past few years, and I'm glad you're opening up space for us to talk about facts and data, in such a big platform. Thank you.
hahaha you don't need a voice, you get government funding for your delusions.
Please do โI spent a Day with foster childrenโ (people who have been in foster care , for parts or all of there childhood)
I think this would be a great topic to cover!
I had a friend who was in foster care and I was heartbroken when he had to move away. I love you Allan!
Please do this ^^
Omg yes
If he does, please interview Danny from Together We Rise (it's a nonprofit founded here in Brea CA). He does so much for children in foster care.
This is why I believe an environmental science class should be mandatory for high school students. It shouldn't just be an option.
it was mandatory at my school
Mandatory at my middle school
Was mandatory in my school (In LA)
YES!!! And along with mental health education weeks, environmental awareness, struggles around the world, and many other very important topics.
agreed. i had terribly trained teachers trying to educate me about climate change when I was like 8 and they spread misinformation like "the earth's temperature is gonna rise 1 clsius per year" which is observably not true. and then when i got a geography teacher in high school who spent basically a month ONLY teaching us that climate change was a hoax (btw the bartard sexually harrassed students) it was not hard at all for me to believe him. we need well trained honest people spreading awareness to children when they are in a age in which they can understand
As a kid who grew up in a mountain. It's so sad imagining how children these days or the next generation can't experience what I've experienced such as climbing tall trees, swimming in a clean lake and seeing different types of animals in a warm-weather...
:-(
don't tell me this
i hate this concrete jungle and always wanted to grow up with nature around me โน๏ธโน๏ธโน๏ธ
I've never been into a real forest :/
Anyone else think that Anthonyโs videos will be shown in schools in the next few years? This is exactly the kind of thing that kids would learn from and actually WANT to watch.
I was one of those kids who absolutely didnโt pay attention in school unless it was something I actually enjoyed, plus Iโve got ADD so focus isnโt my strong suit either. Having these kinds of videos in school definitely wouldโve had me glued and engaged.
I really hope so!
if im a teacher whenever im an adult im definitely playing these videos
I WISH DUDE
YES DUDE
Remember though, โreduce, reuse, recycleโ does reduce the waste in our oceans. It may not help climate change much but it does affect other important environmental issues.
The first step is to "refuse" coming from shelbizleee on youtube
Recycling does almost nothing. Most people try to recycle things that can't be recycled, and companies don't buy recycled plastic cause it costs more
@@themanofquagga That's why we need to reduce and reuse. Although I still recommend people to recycle, solely because I don't want them to do the alternative: throwing them in the trash, I agree with you a bit. So many people focus too much on "recycling" and not "reduce and reuse" which are more effective and immediate solutions when you implement them in your day to day life. Reduce your consumption of bottled water, donate your old clothes for others to use, wash and reuse glass pickle jars (wonderful for storage!), if you only had a sandwich in your kid's ziplock bag please use them again for two to four more times- I promise you they CAN be used again- etc.
It takes electricity to make the materials in your objects. Reducing and reusing limits the electricity. 60% of electricity causes global warming.
While I still recommend people to recycle based off of research I've done into plastic bottles specifically they actually can't be reused bc the type of plastic they are made from take so long to melt down so all those bottles you recycle are just getting thrown into land fills so I think the best method would be to try and cut down on plastic bottle use all together
Damn! Shaz was my professor at IU ;) she rocks !!! It was awesome to see her on your show it was a total surprise !

The system will only change by individuals using their money to support only the companies and items that are "green". We are ruled by the chain of supply and demand: so demand and they shall supply. Every individual counts. The idea that our efforts are a drop in the bucket is exactly why we are where we are right now. VOTE WITH YOUR DOLLAR!
Totally agree with you, one thing that I would add is actually look at the products and consider that the product might just be greenwashing. Something made out of recyclable material or the compostable plastics ARE NOT GOOD there are literally no regulations on when you can use that term. So just look out for greenwashing and buy actually susteinqble products like organic, fair trade, zero waste, vegan things
The system will only change by individuals holding the government and corporations accountable, including in terms of things like public policy
watch out for greenwashing
that is not true at all. There can never be sufficient change withing capitalism. Green capitalism is a myth
kinda hard when the masses are pretty illinformed. How can an uneducated masses make informed decisions? A lot still believe that buying Teslas would save the world. Mostly untrue. Though research into efficient electric cars would probably be vital to climate change somewhere down the line (after cheap renewable energy becomes the norm)

I honestly feel like Anthony is better than 90% of journalists out there.
90% maybe a serious stretch but he may well indeed be better than a lot of journalists even in such niche topics. One thing that possibily increases his likeability and credit is that he is does not include a lot of politics in his interviews and topics. He is also very objective and respectful in the way he conducts these interviews with all kinds of people which is actually something somewhat lacking in certain, 'mainstream' reporting.
I really like propublica when I want to learn about certain topics from an independent view.
He knows what question to ask, about any topic. He asks the things we wanna know, without being disrespectful. He also knows when to make jokes and break the ice, without, again, disrespecting anyone. I feel like sometimes journalists ask stupid questions to make headlines, he's more of a serious interview than a lot of journalists, yes.
As a university student majoring in climate science I really appreciate this video and the scientists Anthony spoke with, its a tough career. I liked how Shaz spoke about trying to motivate peopleโs feelings because as humans we donโt always act with our logic, often itโs our feelings, and thatโs the key to getting people to drive change. I also appreciated the Geoengineer explaining that geoengineering methods canโt be relied upon but are merely supplementary to emissions cuts and renewable energy. A lot of people write off geoengineering completely, but some of the less permanent geoengineering solutions like increasing reflectivity through solar reflectors could provide some short term solutions and buy a little time.
Interesting. What do you think about carbon fixing? Could there be an energetically clean way to extract carbon from the atmosphere at a scale which would be big enough to be impactful?
@@mrinalmunbodh7206 Carbon fixing, like any method of geoengineering imho, is a method that could be used in conjunction with reduced carbon emissions. Itโs one of the โbetterโ geoengineering methods as itโs using afforestation (greening areas that havenโt been green for years/decades) and reducing deforestation which can help to remove some extra CO2 from the atmosphere. Whatโs important to note is that we canโt just have one method to use, but rather use several methods together.
Carbon Fixation is probably one of the cleaner carbon removal methods Iโve learnt about, but sadly none that Iโve come across from what I remember (Iโll come back if I remember one) have been shown to be cost effective on a large scale as yet.
Again, Iโm merely a student of climate so please donโt take my words as absolute. Iโd highly recommend having a look at the Assessment Report 5: Summary for Policy Makers from the UN which covers this type of information (and much more) and is considered the most authoritative source on Climate Change. Hope this helps xx
@@illariavisentin236 , I see. I was also thinking of possibly using artificial means to convert the CO2 from the atmosphere, something like an artificial leaf which could be produced more easily (hopefully cleanly). I will look into the matter more.
@@mrinalmunbodh7206 that could definitely be another alternative which may be cleaner. But it would also need to be cost effective. Definitely a good idea to help boost carbon removal though

Everybody is watching the presidential election in the us. Because for a lot of other countries, that try to lower their carbon emissions, it is so important that the us takes part in it, because their impact is soooo much bigger, the us is such a big country. Itโs frustrating for smaller countries, if they do their best considering defeating climate change, but in the end it still depends on the bigger countries to take actions.
Although China and India need to step up there game as they are two biggest contributor to pollution

I'm in my late twenties and it really amazes me how 'kids these days' are so passionate about the environment. When I was a teenager I became a vegetarian and people did not understand it at all, now it's common discourse that animal agriculture is a huge factor in climate change. I went to a FFF protest and was so moved by all the teenagers there, this would have been unthinkable just 10-12 years ago. Everyone can help create less demand for things that are harmful to the environment. Thank you for this video!

This is probably my favorite interview you've done Anthony. Thanks for asking really good questions that are common roadblocks that many people have to understanding the relation to how climate change affects everyone on a personal level. Panel of scientists were all great at explaining the subject matter too. I'd love it if you made climate change a recurring one by bringing on more and more scientists who can talk about alternative solutions to climate change like Nuclear Energy, Agriculture Production Change, Wind/Solar, etc!
I have been involved in conservation efforts for years as a volunteer, and later even in my job what let me to now study environmental science, management of natural resources to be specific, which studies the relations we have had with our environment and possible alternatives among other things. I've got to tell you, it sometimes gets really overwhelming to see how our societies ignore the huuuuuge elephant in the room. It's great to see a video like this, it's so heartwarming to know that even if we have not been ready to implement the solutions, or go all the way just yet, we are definitely getting connected and that gives me a lot of hope for the future. I find truly sad and frightening that there are people in the comments saying that we don't actually know if it's true, or that carbon dioxide is produced by a lot of life forms, wake up people, every winter is colder, every summer is hotter, spring and fall are shortening, and if we don't stop this we will go back to the climate days of pangea, where there was the wet season and the dry season, people argue that changes like that are natural, that the earth has survived through them, yeah, the earth did, but where are the giant insects of the carboniferous? The amazing synapsids and the great gorgons of the Permian? The humongous mammals of the Mesozoic? They experienced those changes and ultimately went extinct, if we don't do something, humans along the incredible biodiversity of planet earth will just be names on this list of amazing creatures that no longer exist. When fossil fuels run out, when society inevitably collapses, then humans will realize 2 things, climate change was a real threat, and it may be too late to recover when those events happen, please be educated, don't be morons, PLEASE

Take trump for an example: he says it's all a hoax because it's much easier to live when you have no worries. But it's pretty dumb actually. Closing your eyes won't make the problems disappear. Anthony, I love what you're using your platform for. I support your effort!
It bothers me that this problem, like many others, is individualised by the discourse. Of course an individual acting ethically in regards to the environment is a good thing, but the issue of climate change especially must be addressed on a systemic level. The narrative seems to be that you, your mum, and the nice grandpa who feeds stray dogs down the street are, as part of society, to blame for climate change, and thus also have the responsibility to fix it, but the things that cause most of the emissions are actually caused by massive industries controlled by unfathomably wealthy sociopaths who own lawmakers and administrators. Many of these problems cannot simply be changed by a widespread change in consumer behaviour, and many are happening in spite of it, such as continued subsidies for fossil fuels often being the only reason they are competitive in the energy market in many places. The political will to fight climate change is there, as is the sense of urgency associated with, the problem is that the aristocracy does not agree.
EXACTLY!!!! This times 10000.

System change not climate change! I've been a climate activist since I was 15 and it's so important that we focus on system rather than individualism, and the lockdown has shown perfectly that even with the society being stopped, the emissions dropped on a insufficient level if we want to survive climate crisis. There is just no other way!
one of my final projects this year is on climate change, IM DEFINITELY USING THIS AS A SOURCE.
Maybe check out there scientists peer reviewed articles instead! And maybe if you have to present, use this video as enticement!
@@mariamadey9743 @Jack Geiger THANK YOU FOR THE HELP :)
Hey Anthony maybe you could do an episode on individuals with body dysmorphia? As someone who struggles with this, it would be helpful to hear from others.
Thinking about the future is truly horrifying

I wish there was more actual knowledge in this... not just "we need to act" or "recycling isn't enough" but like what they think should change in politics and what can we actually do collectively...
If youโre interested in learning more, even just a google search can help! There are so many resources about climate change policy and how to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions at both individual and societal scales. Just a small example of potential policy changes could be things like government incentives and mandates for companies that require them to reduce their emissions, working towards converting from fossil fuels towards renewables, and a personal favorite: implementing the restoration of natural ecosystems, particularly ones like wetlands, forests, etc. that can help sequester carbon. Itโs all very fascinating, and if you look into it youโll definitely find lots of ways to get involved!
Please do "I spent a day with people who have epilepsy" it's not talked about as much as it needs to be
My bf made some asinine comments about climate change last night so thanks for making this video!!! And I literally paused the video in the middle of your Voting PSA to fill out my ballots. ๐โ๏ธ You and Mykie are legit couple goals.
This is something that should be shown to leaders of every single country. Itโs all about economy then the next generation to them. Everyone we have 7 years left. Letโs make a change. ๐๐ผ
I haven't watched the vid yet, 7 YEARS?!
There are scientists telling Trump this stuff everyday yet he can't except it. I'm so sick of him.
@@ThatJxde yeah, some sources disagree but the general consensus is between 5 and 12 years before massive flooding and loss of life. The worst-case scenario is by 2050 sea levels could rise 6 feet, this would destroy most of NYC, London, and Dubai which are some of the most densely populated places on Earth. And don't forget the countless other towns and cities that will be destroyed.
This could all be avoided if we kill Jeff Besos- I mean . . . um, "find a non-violent solution to lower the carbon footprint of billionaires across the world."
(But if that doesn't work we should just kill him, viva la revolution and all that.)
@@justjade424 he literally said on national tv โI donโt think science knowsโ โjust wait, itโs gonna get coolerโ when he was asked about climate change a couple weeks ago ๐
crap everyone (including me) needs to take this seriously
Hi Anthony, I have been following you since 2012 and you've clearly only grown from strength to strength! This is just the type of content I need! Here in Ireland we've just gone into a second lockdown where we can't travel outside 5km, so I'm looking for some good content to pass the next six weeks! ๐

This is very important thank you for talking about this I hope KRplus actually shows people this

I am an Environmental Science Master student and I can tell you one thing, that you can do and that does help. Shift to a plant-based diet. This is the simplest and most straight forward way you can do something now.
Sharing this wherever I can because heck please this is so much needed. Thank you for using your influence and your voice, Anthony.
we have all these problems but im staying optimistic that we humans will solve it. We have very bad people that are in power right now but they are dying out. Theres been many inventions from young people thatll make the earth a lot cleaner than it is today, like how amazon wants to become 100% carbon free by 2050. We are in a dark place right now but humanity will pull through, we always do.
Generations die out, but they also enshrine their beliefs in new generations. It will be an ongoing challenge until we can all agree to make the changes needed en masse.
@i-hate-conspiracy-theorist they can retire tho
Huge corporations like amazon can say whatever they want for pr. It doesn't mean they actually care or have any intention to do anything
@@LilacMonarch yeah I wouldn't put much faith in corporations like amazon. They're shady as all hell

A+ topic with the unique perspective of these superb guests!
Everyone in this video is so articulate. So much respect for all the do. Letโs make them proud with our votes
Absolutely fantastic!! I've been wanting to talk to climate scientists and hear what they have to say for years, so this was so wonderful to watch! Thank you for such quality and well researched content! :D
Yesssssssssss, you actually did the interview!!!!!
What this is so crazy. We need to try and save our planet. It gives us life and we give it trash.
Yup thats exactly what we are doing to our planet. Its really sad.
if you want to know more, iโd suggest watching david attenboroughs a life on our planet, itโs very informative as to what weโve done in the past 90 years and what the future will look like. but also what we can do to help slow this down
@@mylesb7360 okay thank you for the suggestion.
Please don't hate me for saying this I'm just respectfully giving a opinion lol. The planet naturally has always had cycles of ice ages and global warming. Not that we are not making it somewhat worse but I don't think we are ending Terra
@@JimTheKid I agree but so many people have made it worse. We can make a difference but it wonโt fully help. But it will slow it down.
"how do you make the invisible visible?" damn that's the purest truth i've heard in a while, people can't belive scientists just because they can't see them selfs and that sucks :(

Please do one with women who suffer from endometriosis. I was diagnosed with it just a little over a week ago. It truly makes life difficult and not a lot of people are aware that this is even a thing and how much it can effect a woman. Thank you so much Anthony for taking on this topic! So important.
As a scientist myself I am beyond grateful that you finally touched such important topic... Keep up the great work Anthony!
Can you spend a day with people with social anxiety?
Lol me
how are they gonna do the interview tho lmfao
@@notkarin666 Well, not all social anxiety prevents people from talking to others. Like everything else severity is on a spectrum and the anxiety can be focused on specific sections of social interactions. For me it went from anxiety during convos to after convos, so I can have a perfectly normal conversation and right after I regret everything. So there can be people that he could interview for sure.
Speaking as someone with severe generalized and social anxiety theyโll probably cancel at the last minute ๐
I have that and my general anxiety makes it worse
Thanks Mr. Anthony for making this great video. A lot of people still need to hear and learn about this stuff.
So just a reminder that for the people who still canโt vote, thereโs still ways you can help curb emissions. Carpooling whenever you can, composting your food waste, and so on. Itโs true that corporations play a huge roll but if enough people care and push for change, change can happen
imagine the planet is gone by tomorrow, like thatโs what we get for not doing anything about it. we should really start and ACTUALLY DO ITTTT.

Oh, the Earth will be fine, it endured much worse. Itโs our own survival (and other species aswell) that is at stakes.
@@KaytheWooper its crazy that we care that little about our own survival.
I really hope this gets out to a lot of people, we need to change things. Like Anthony said everyone is more focused on desires, wants, and needs. Well, we NEED the earth, and letting it die is killing our home and all the beautiful life it holds. It makes me so heartbroken, we don't have time left. There needs to be a revolution.
