Pulled over 3-4 times a week?! And shot 5 TIMES point blank range?! Iโ€™m a white Australian woman and I have been pulled over twice in my 10 years of having a license. If somebody was shot by a Copper at point blank range 5 times in australia they would absolutely loose their job and their would be a massive inquiry. I canโ€™t comprehend how much American coppers use their guns! Someone is fired at about once, Yes ONCE PER YEAR and itโ€™s a freaking big deal here. If you guys had better gun control I think that youโ€™d also have less police violence. Thereโ€™s approx 3mil guns in Aus VS 393mil In the US! Something has to change for you guys

My mom has been driving for 22 years, and she's only been pulled over for an expired registration. She's gone 20mph over the speed limit or drivin like a psycho in front of police officers, but they just kinda let it go. Getting pulled over for literally nothing, then getting shot at is just insane to me.

If they see an easy target, they'll start to follow, maybe run the plates, and invent a reason to pull them over in the first place like: running a stop sign or going a little under the speed limit or failing to signal (which they wouldn't have known if they weren't stalking you) or driving a nicer car than they would expect you to be driving or having something hanging from your rearview mirror or maybe that person "met a description".

Also, it takes a lot more than KNOWING the law to become a lawyer, whilst police still learn about it while on duty and even during traffic stops.

I was thirteen at the time, and was walking back home with my (black) friend, who Iโ€™ll call Alex. Im Native American/white and I look like it too. Alex and I were both raised to fear the police instead of respecting them. We were walking back from a BLM protest (ironic) when we got stopped by a police officer. He asked us what we were doing, and we said we were walking home. I had a backpack full of first aid supplies and snacks, along with signs. He โ€œthought there were drugs in thereโ€ and demanded me to take off my bag so he could search it. He searched it, didnโ€™t find anything, and demanded to do a full-body pat down. On two teenage girls. Alex refused, I told him to let us go because we werenโ€™t doing anything. Thatโ€™s when he drew his gun. Now, my dad was in the military for twenty years, and had trained me vigorously on gun safety (how to fire, how to clean, and how to defend yourself against someone with a gun). I did what youโ€™re supposed to do if you get a gun pulled on you, which is to close the distance and do not, under any circumstance, let them pull that trigger. He was aiming it at Alex, and was yelling at both of us to get on the ground. I screamed at him to stop, screamed for help from anyone who couldโ€™ve heard. Thatโ€™s when the gun went off. No amount of action movies prepared me for the absolute pain I felt. I was lucky enough for the bullet to have missed the bone and arteries, but it lodged into the flesh of my thigh. I went down, and he pointed the gun at Alex again. I was screaming for help and in pain, and he pointed it at me to get me to shut up. I was fully convinced I was going to die, so I yelled at him to go to hell. I cursed him out while I was bleeding profusely. I donโ€™t remember what happened after that, but I was under the knife within the hour. They got the bullet out, stopped the bleeding, etc etc. My family sued, Alexโ€™s family sued. Nothing. No dice. I, a child, have to use crutches and have severe PTSD. Because one man had a power trip. If anything, Iโ€™m happy that Alex didnโ€™t get shot. Iโ€™d rather I get shot than her. Itโ€™s not as severe as some other stories, but thatโ€™s mine. Fuck the police.

When I was a child, my father was extremely abusive. He would use his belt like a whip and leave welts on my older brother. One night, my brother had enough and called the cops. Let me note, we're very white. When the cops showed up, the first thing they did was ask my brother what he'd done to deserve it. (he'd gotten suspended for fighting, classic sign of an abused child taking it out on someone else.) One of the cops pulled my brother aside and told him "If you *ever* call us for something like this again, I'll let your dad borrow *my* belt." And then they left. Children begging for help. When I was 14 I was walking home from school with my best friend. I feel the need to mention that we are both white, but I sometimes get mistaken for Hispanic due to my tanner skin and curly hair. When we were just a few blocks from my house a squad car started following us very slowly. I made the decision to stop and see what the office wanted. When he approached us he told me that I matched the outfit description of a teenage runway. I was wearing blue jeans and a black sweater. I asked who had called it in just in case it was for me and this man seriously said โ€œthatโ€™s classifiedโ€. He completely ignored my friend during this entire experience and kept asking for an ID even after I told him I was only 14 and didnโ€™t have one. The whole experience felt super sketchy. 2 years later I had a seizure during a babysitting job. When the woman I work for called the ambulance a police office showed up and started yelling at her about what drugs I had taken. She calmly explained that I have epilepsy but he refused to listen and insisted that she must be my dealer. I know these experiences arenโ€™t as extreme or as dangerous as the ones in the video, but I wanted to share to show how deeply engrained fear mongering, racism, and needlessly arresting people is in the police system.

You give BLM a little power and they're destroying your streets, help implementing racial laws and morality policing and outright attacking people while marching with the communist saying "we will tread". The exact thing happened toy father as well. Were a family of 7, most of us have already moved out doing our own thing, only one of my sisters and parents still live together. Theres been a lot of drama in my family between those three, he was drinking a lot and has caused some trauma for my sister. He was not allowed into the house essentially because my sister got a restraining order for him, they let him stay in a shed of sorts because they didnt want to leave him homeless after almost 30 years of living together and we still love him, he was there even if he wasnt present, he was a great guy when sober, a woodworker etc.
So long story short, he got drunk one night and wanted to enter the house or something, my sister called the police on him. When they arrived they basically dragged him into the vehicle, my mother heard one of the officers telling 'be careful he's going to suffocate'.
After few hours my mother got a call from them saying that he had died during the trip to the police station.
It's alleged that their actions caused it, we didn't sue anyone, there was no bringing him back.

Fun fact: The stamford prision experiment is a sham. The man who made it hired his buddy to influence what the "guards" did. He admitted it years later but nobody ever cared much because the initial "findings" helped shift blame away from police officers. The "its human nature" argument is completely untrue.
The experiment was replicated by the BBC resulting in prisioners and guards chilling together by day 3. They stopped using the cells and all ate together, again they aired it on TV expecting it to be dramatic but didnt get much press when it ended up just being a bunch of dudes chilling in harmony.
It is in human nature to be good. It is the inhertinly racist bigoted police system that influence individual officers into acting inhumanely, and then unions protect the perpetrators. Thats what made the police system the shitshow it is today.

@@ellaellaellaella555 The Stanford Prison Experiment is massively misrepresented. People think the participants were simply told they had power and then chose to abuse it, but in reality they were lied to about the entire nature of the experiment. They were told that the experiment was on the prisoners to test how they reacted to the mistreatment and were commanded to be strict and cruel as part of the experiment requirements. Then when the results came out the organizers of the experiment flipped the script and acted as if they were shocked by the participants doing as they were told. The true takeaway from the experiment should be that people are willing to do horrible things to others and abuse their power freely as long as they are told by others to do it or that it's okay. People don't uphold their supposed moral code when their actions are "justified." Another experiment in which people were given the ability to administer electric shocks showed the same thing. Upon being told by the person running the experiment to turn up and up and up the shock strength, they continued to do it despite seeing that the person they were administering the shock to was hurt and possibly in danger bc it was "justified" by the fact they were told it's okay to do it.

@@randomhuman8649 haha re-correction. Re examining the buzzer experiment researchers found only 20% actually believed the experiment was hurting someone as it was approved by Harvard, the 20% that did believe it may be real went all the way to the final round when they were told they had no choice but to press it, then all but one pressed it. Why? Interviewing the participants they found that they were willing to do something bad "in the name of science". They were told the study was about memory and retrieval and their help in the research would help cute Alzheimer's. So the real takeaway is more about misinformation and not letting the goal justify the means.

It was "oh god, I hope the police don't kill him when he's older..." THAT is absolutely heartbreaking. White people don't have to worry about that. When my brother (who is white) was 16, there were protests going on at the school he went to. He was eventually told to leave the premises, and he agreed, he just said he had to go get my younger brothers. Because he didn't listen, he was arrested and booked overnight in prison. Yeah, he eventually got it expunged from his record, but that cost him multiple jobs and made finding a home much harder. And he's LUCKY that's all he dealt with. I live in a very upper class dominated city. When I was in high school, I decided that I wanted to join the military so I started running every day after school. Since then, Iโ€™ve almost been shot, Iโ€™ve been stalked, Iโ€™ve been raided and Iโ€™ve been continuously harassed by the police. What I learned from all these encounters is the overwhelming amount of people who call 9-11 on โ€œassumptionsโ€. On the day I was almost shot by the police officer (who would end up stalking me for a month) I learned that someone called the police because they said I had a โ€œlarge duffle bag and was cutting in front of traffic repeatedlyโ€ and โ€œwas wearing riot gearโ€. Absolutely none of this was true and I almost lost my life because of it. The lesson to take from all of this I guess is to not make assumptions for everything in life that you donโ€™t have the context too because you may be dancing with someone elseโ€™s life. Thanks for reading if you did. :)

Even while in front of their co-workers or not on a bodycam. Not โ€œmostโ€ or โ€œa lotโ€ of the time. All the time is the only right answer here!
Another good point that was brought up in this video was that i think it definitely creates a better sense of community and a deeper understanding for others when you work where you personally grew up. Or at least locally. People seem to not understand this point because it strengthens the relationship & trust between the police and the public, especially when you respect civilians and make them feel understood/safe within a super tough situation. Which is the policeโ€™s main job beside โ€œprotect and serve (always with a ๐Ÿ”ซ pointed at your face ofc ๐Ÿ™„)โ€. Yeah obviously a whole lotta โ€œprotectingโ€ going on. Only ever for cops and for other fellow friends of cops. Bunch of arrogant idiots licking each others boots is what it is. This crap needs to end already. Itโ€™s no better in Canada for Indigenous people. My experience isnโ€™t the worst out there, but if you donโ€™t mind me sharing, Iโ€™ll do it here. Two officers were sent to me for a wellness check by a well-meaning but misunderstanding friend, and in an unrightfully standoffish fashion, told me I deserved to be charged for โ€œwasting police resources and evasion of law enforcement;โ€ according to them, the reason I was not charged being I was โ€œout of my mind.โ€ Then, one officer told me multiple times I was not a normal person for having a fear response to their presence. (This was a few towns over from the Wetโ€™suwetโ€™en territory, where RCMP documents revealed orders for lethal overwatch. Plus the history of officers killing indigenous and black people during wellness checks, and the fact that mental health is generally a footnote in police training.) They detained me after an invasive search for weapons and brought me to the hospital in what amounted to a useless panic for my family, and the harassment did not stop at me. Once my sister arrived, the naturally elevated emotional state of the room convinced the officer who remained that I was going to hurt somebody, and he threatened to have her removed from the premises, saying, โ€œyou are only going to make things worse.โ€
None of these things had any base, I have no criminal records, or history of violent behaviour to any extent, and the only things known to the RCMP about me were my ethnicity and my mental health, which was not even of concern for me at the time. All of this started from me not reading a message right away, and that was because I was eating dinner with family. I never evaded law enforcement. I barely left the hotel.
And I am one of the lucky ones.

I just realized I never really understood what "defund the police" means. I don't live in the US so I'm only familiar with these problems from what I've seen on the internet or the news and they didn't explain it the way it was in this video. Thank you.

      I'm glad this video helped.
I haven't got to that part of the video yet, but police budgets are crazy bloated here. Seattle Police Department has a budget of roughly 410 million. Every other Seattle overarching social program, including education and tackling our homeless crisis, has a budget of around 100 million(each). Our police chief and 30 other officers make ~300k+ a year and the police chief has a budget of 10 million allocated just for them. It's gross.

As an addition to the wonderful, informative comment before me, โ€˜defund the policeโ€™ basically means dividing and relocating the money into other programs that require some as well; like housing, therapies, rehabs, senior centers, etc. With how inflamed the budgets are for police departments, if we manage to relocate the money, theyโ€™d still have millions of dollars on the side. Itโ€™s basically equal distribution of the money, as much as we can anyways.
At least thatโ€™s my own interpretation of the information I researched, so it might not be an accurate description. Please feel free to correct me !

defunding doesnโ€™t inevitably mean to โ€œrepeal police forceโ€ it just first of all means to cut its budget. There are actually cops that are willing support this if it means them not having to deal with emergencies they are not trained to handle

Wow Anthony, you completely. changed my point of view of this. I knew it was a problem, but I didnโ€™t know it was this much of a problem. My father things these protests are just funny and terrible and they are raiding things. I personally know itโ€™s a terrible thing now.
