The guy on the phone told her they didnt have any (forgot the word) left so when she asked for another company's number (it was in the 90's google didnt exist yet) and the guy told her he couldnt give her another number cuz of the competition. TW: death, heart attack
I had a similar experience when my dad had a heart attack and died at home, me and my brothers were home and my mom had to rush home from work. I'm not sure if she played any role before coming to our house but this woman (I don't know what her job title was) came along with the other first responders, and the way she comforted us as we were bawling our eyes out, drove us to my mom's friend's place for the night and all that. For how traumatic it was for us she really did everything right to make the best of that situation. Really gave me a ton of respect for the people who deal with these situations on the daily.
Funny thing too, years later I took a psychology course and she was the prof for it, really good teacher.

Oh my god yes! I myself have the disorder (not severe at all so for me itโs pretty easy to cope with) and the amount of misinformation that his spread of the media pisses me off
Agreed. Same with me. People often think OCD is only being a perfectionist and washing hands over and over again. But there is so much more to this mental illness. I hate it when my friends say they have OCD because they check twice whether they closed the door or not.
Yeah, people donโt get OCD at all. As someone with a bad case of OCD, Iโd love an episode on people with OCD.

Ngl I feel bad its taboo in your culture. Therapy is great.
I know someone who called the emergency line. Then after they gave their address. The dispatcher took 10 minutes to finally say "How do you spell that, I don't think it's a real place".
In the end the victim found someone who could drive them to the hospital. Then the dispatcher in question was fired after an investigation.
Should've combined scenarios and gone with "My five year old is breaking into my car 'cause he refuses to go to school."

Thank you guys for your commitment to your job
just found this, thank you for doing this...im a 911 dispatcher in texas, the first to become first responders! and they are absolutely right. the job is nothing like you see on tv (though i do like the show 9-1-1, lol) i've been doing this job for 10 years now. we have a quiet room too, with a reclining chair, massage chair, and sofa to relax at. we just got those things a few years ago though
Strange you need more training to be a 911 dispatcher than an actual cop.
Huh.
You need more training to be a barber than an officer/cop
I know your comment might be really good and thought provoking but I can't focus on it because I just love zuko as your pfp, thank you

When Melissa said she'd been doing it for 17 years, I was shocked. She must've started working there when she was 13.
Or 3 she looks so young
She looks in her 30's
@@theletterm2580 About 30yo.
Ey is anyone gonna r/woosh Mori's Popcorn or.. lol :)
The other one looked kinda young as well.
Thank you for what you do to these dispatchers. It is not an easy job and so, so important. Also, you ARE first responders and should get any additional benefits that come with that title. Dispatchers are the first point of contact and as someone who has had to call 911 during a traumatic experience I am extremely grateful to the woman who answered the phone and kept me calm.
I love how you do this! Because you are helping people to not be afriad !
How does Anthony manage to get along with every person on this series?!
Right
Itโs because he never has any prejudice, he just respects everyone and thatโs how he gets it back. Itโs great
empathy
the answer is: good boy

Do other non-Americans also get annoyed when โuniversalโ things are just in the US?
He specifically said universal in the us lol
matieking yeah, but I was saying that itโs annoying when people say things are universal that are only in the US and therefore not actually universal
@@hannahsmith4886 but it is universal... In the us.... Also, calling 911 works fine in the EU
i mean, i'm not a non-american so I'm not sure i'm qualified to answer, but i do know that if i'm reading like an article or something and it will randomly throw in this fact or statistic or whatever that's specific to like the UK and then just continue on like nothing happened, i'll be like, "that's not very helpful" ๐ so i can only imagine that's what it's like for you
Hannah Smith 911 also works in Aus and the UK.
I want to thank the all the ladies who worked so hard , hats off to you , thank you for saving thousands and hundreds of life
I could never have this job like i can't explain it, i would feel so guilty when I wasnt fast enough
The only issue I have with these videos: they're not long enough ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ I love them, they're so interesting!!!!

I would like to thank all emergency dispatchers. As someone who has been suicidal, that time on the phone with them is incredibly important, and I am forever grateful for them

Dispatcher: What's Your emergency
Anthony: Would You Like To spend a day with me?
Dispatcher: what
Anthony: I have a youtube channel
@Corosite i think you missunderstood their comment.

Once I was at a park/farm, a tractor was out of control and broke down a fence, however it also ran a man over, my dad and I went to check if everyone was okay. Turns out a man got hurt (like I said) and another person who worked there called an abulense. Since she used to be a doctor she touched his body to check. She said he had a broken shoulder and fractured arm/wrist. (Left side) and some scars on his chest. Since he only spoke Spanish I was able to translator for the person who came. Asked questions such as: name, the date, what happened, etc. Not really related but just wanted to share :,)
911/999 operators are so brave and smart and so amazing and I feel like they donโt get enough credit for their incredible work โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ
My boyfriend is a prison officer, and that could be a really good topic to touch on. He broke down at least once a week, came home with bruises and cuts. He also put out fires, riots and talked people down from all sorts of traumatic experiences. I think there's a lot more than people think when it comes to prison officers. Love the videos :)
Thatโs a good idea! Your boyfriend is a very strong person.
There's a misconception about prison officers that they're all tough and rude towards prisoners I honestly believed that up until one minute ago
@@catttyun There are many misconception about many things, people keep forgetting they are all humans at the end.
Police Officer, Prison Officer even the "enemy" in a war, they are all humans who probably have family, wifes and children back home, but specially in the army they are basically forced to not think about it or they couldn't do their job.
Which is sad, but understandable. But about the police? I will never understand the dehumanization treatment some gave them.
@@sofialu226 Exactly ppl just like to put labels and say this is bad this is good when we forget there are good and bad people in all walks of life. There are good prisoners and bad prisoners. I treat people not based on their jobs nationality or whatever but based on their morals
I am in school for corrections and I have people I talk to on tinder or just meet another way, they tell me how power-hungry I must be, how evil, horrible I must be.
This one might be next to impossible but also extremely interesting:
I spent a day with CIRQUE DU SOLEIL PERFORMERS
Let's see it!
Yessss omg that would be amazing.
Wow. What is that?
that's be awesome, but there's also plenty of people he could get way easier for practically the same insight. just any performance artists, circus performers, gymnasts, acrobatists (sure hope that's a word)
you can check cirquelife here on youtube ;)
