- We booked our place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a convincing victory over AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday night.
Roared on by a vociferous home crowd, we made a sharp start to the game as Gabi Martinelli caused problems for the Dons defence from the off.
Indeed, it was the Brazilian who won the penalty for the opening goal as he reacted swiftly to latch on to an Eddie Nketiah through ball, before being bundled over in the area.
Alex Lacazette stepped up and made no mistake from the spot, sending it into the bottom right-hand corner.
We continued to threaten sporadically through a low-key first half, but save for a corner that looped up threateningly and bounced in the Wimbledon six-yard box, there was little in the way of goalmouth action.
Partey took aim just before the hour mark with a powerful drive from the edge of the area that Nik Tzanev did well to palm around the post - and the Wimbledon keeper had to be sharp to deny Nuno Tavares soon afterwards.
We were pushing and pushing for the second, and finally with 13 minutes remaining we had it as Emile Smith Rowe doubled our advantage from close range.
Two minutes later we added a third - and this was the best of the night - as Cedric raced into the area and pulled the ball back, for Nketiah to flick into the far corner with a backheel.
There was still time for Bukayo Saka to go close twice before the final whistle, but in the end we had to settle for the three goals and a place in the next round.

It’s the difference in style. Laca will always be the better option against teams that cede possession and are defensive because he can play with his back facing the goal and he can hold the ball up. Auba plays best facing the goal, timing runs between the defensive line and using his pace. The problem is that everyone wants to be the star. Football could take a note from American football in that regard.

Agree with you Mohd - AMN must be putting in a lot of hard work the way he has to improved as a CM player. He got natural pace and energy- once his first touch, reading of the game , ball distribution and goal contribution side of the game has improved to real quality level , he could make the CM position his own. His ultimate goal is to play for England as a CM.

There used to be a Laca-vs-Auba thing when they first arrive. They were so productive when not on the same pitch, knowing one would sub the other. Now... They are stuck in bromance and predictable 1-2.
Auba needs space to run as an inverted scorer, something that isn't compatible with the presently slow and compact tiki-taka team

There's is beast inside Martinelli. He truly gives out the vibes of his role model Ronaldo.
When this guy clicks for Arsenal he has the capabilities to get 15-20 goals just in the PL.
Same with Lokonga, they are just too good for their age and we have done a massive job signing these players. We need to play them more rather than certain other veterans and flashy players who have no end result in their games only mistakes. Start giving Martinelli and Lokonga starts in PL atleast against weaker teams.

Honestly laca is so underrated. He's always so sharp and works super hard. He saved us last season from finishing in the bottom half. Scored lots of important pens against Tottenham home and chelsea home. Very underrated player and should start up top on Sunday
