2018 Mercedes-AMG GT C vs Porsche 911 Carrera T | Autocar

Damn that Benz looks right in all black.

I feel like the Carrera GTS is a better comparison to the AMG GT C. The T is designed as a lightweight, slightly stripped out sports car. The GTS is more powerful and luxurious, and closer in price.

I'd pick the AMG..... It has more of an x-factor for me

This video made me really appreciate the look of the Amg GT series.

Great to see Dan again. I'd have the Merc GTC over the Carrera T any day of the week. But if it was a 911 GTS you put against the Benz, I'd have the Porsche in a heartbeat.

My 2018 T (exactly as reviewed) is my 19th 911. There is something very special about the 2018 T & 2019 T. 2 Years of production with the USA getting a very limited allocation. The last “narrow body” 911.

.....I guess one can put it like this: The stick shift 911 for the car connoisseur that looks for pure engagement, unlimited reward and the real fun of driving whereas the double clutch shifted AMG GT is for Autobahn blasts, traffic light sprints and city cruise perfection , pot. impressing spectators more as well.... both super great cars for sure but only one is a real drivers car, and that got my pick!

Merc for Racing the women back to the house. The spaceship dimensions amaze you, the Long & Wide bonnet scares you, the interior warps your mind, and the Thunder of a cold start is mesmerizing... Simply put... A concept car from an Artists notepad... That you would never think they would actually build. One must actually see 👀, hear, & drive this car to appreciate how special it is. Great presentation. 💯

Always considered a life’s achievement to be able to fill out a check for a brand new AMG GT. Absolute monster of a car. It looks absolutely nothing like anything out there on the road.

Would choose the 911 in a heartbeat.

Right Conclusion. Right Spec. T Interior Pack, No Rear Seats, Manual and Rear Wheel Steering.. Future Classic for Sure.

Well done Dan, these videos are getting better with every one posted. However, it feels somewhat contrived comparing the lighter, cheaper Carrera T with the GT C. Surely, as pointed out bh someone else here, the GTS would be a better comparison?

Nice review Dan. The 911 is a great car, whatever model you buy, but I actually think the Cayman GT4 is the sweet spot of the Porsche range. Especially if you don't need rear seats. Exceptional value for money and second hand they cost £75,000

Porkers are very common place these days, and though they are great cars, the AMG is much greater fun. It has one of the world's greatest sound tracks, feels much lighter than it's weight suggests, is nice and pointy and overall is just so much more of a statement. Give me the AMG any day. And I come from being a long term porker driver. Nice review by the way...

Did this 911 T have the rear wheel steering? That for me is the reason the T is special since that is not available on the base.

The T is the wrong 911, the GT3 with touring package fits much better not only because of the horsepower.
T and GT C are two not comperable cars...

For this review I'd pick the AMG GTC Coupe because for me its one of my dream cars, I love the fact that it has Rear-axle steering like the "R" variant, it has the same wide body as the GTR, I personally like the configuration of the "C" variant on MB website, if i had the finances to spec one up:/, and to me 550HP and 502lbs. ft. of totque is enough power for me considering I've never owned this car let alone a RWD one with launch control, 7speed AMG DCT etc. also if I could spec one up it would be in Designo Selenite Grey Magno, with the Night Package, the Satin black 19''/20'' wheels with the Saddle Brown/Black nappa Leather interior. I know this comment was overkill but I'll say this I appreciate the Carrera T as well its brilliant and definitely in some ways more rewarding to drive then the AMG GTC Coupe!

Width and visibility are under rated performance aids. Fast car that doesn't take up all the road space. And one you can see out of. Winner.

Why would you compare the top of the range GTC to the entry level Carrera? Surely the standard GT would have been a more like for like comparison?

GTC for luxury, interior design (not necessarily quality), and awesome commute. The design is just so good on this car, very unique, but maybe an acquired taste for some.
911T for actual driving pleasure. And not as good a grand tour, but 991 generation is so big and comfy (although smaller than the Benz), it's insanely comfy already, at least compared to its little Cayman brother that is much more sport focused rather than comfort.

Mercedes has been building junk for years, I should know we have owned several. After buying our first Porsche it was like going from a golf cart to a Lamborghini.
The Porsche build is so much better. I remember driving down the road in my E55 AMG and watching parts fall out of underneath the dashboard.

The Porsche is great and all but I wouldn’t take it over the GTC even if was drunk.

I'd probably pick the 911T and tune it to add another 100hp. Also you can spec it with a manual which you cant do with the merc.

Basically this review and the R8 RWS review are both comparisons that would’ve worked better with a Carrera GTS than the 911s you chose.

Is that possible to compare any AMG to any McLaren?
It probably doesn't make any sense, and that's why I can't find any comparison in the web ;P
but...
The AMG has awesome engines, sound and throttle response, and McLaren's very laggy and dull.
The steering and suspension looks like it is on the McLaren's side, but how much.
What about the position behind the wheel, seats, balance, traction, upshifts, downshitfs ...?
The question is:
What AMG needs to work on, to get closer to McLaren, and is it really that far away?
Or maybe it looks a bit different?
It looks like an interesting comparison :)
