In spirit, yes, but I think there's something special about running that old body on a custom built chassis with some of today's best technology under the hood.

i think he showed while building it there isn't enough room for the peddle down there. but i do agree a manual would be nice.

I cant believe how far you have come man. From the start of your channel to a huge project like this, it is just amazing. Theres always some things to be fixed, or somethings to be worked on but it is just amazing how big you have grown and how much you have accomplished. the crazy part is there is still so much more! Congrats on all of it!

Definitely needs it's hood back, maybe with a lexan cover to see the engine bay and the velocity stacks. Such an autocross killer machine though. Well done, sir! 👍

Autocross killer? Huh? The thing is on air (worst suspension for autox), on mediocre tires, has a horrible slow transmission and the rear shock towers aren't braced. If this thing actually managed to survive auto-x it would NOT be fast in the slightest.
The cage adds a ton of rigidity so rear shock braces aren't really necessary, auto-x usually only uses one gear (generally second) so it doesn't really matter if the suspension is super slow, and the tires aren't the absolute best but definitely aren't shit. With how little the car weighs it would do well if Chris is a good driver, I've seen a old stock motor Volvo XC70 station wagon put down practically the same time as a stripped 370z, both with experienced drivers. This car has potential if you don't like it then why are you here?
@@NiSE_Rafter Jason N the roll cage braces sheet metal that is barely associated with the shock towers. If you really think that 3000lbs of weight transfer isn't going to bend some 1/8" thick sheet metal you are wrong. The SMG gearing might require 1st on some courses. The reason the Volvo won is 100% driver skill. They both may be experienced but the volvo driver knew what he was doing and the 370z didn't. Chris will go to autox and get spanked by a bone stock crx, but so does everyone.

I think he should make bumper/nose to cover the front and complete the front end but have it cut short so you can still see the engine and the ITB’s.

why does it look so slow? and it sounds like a boring v8 instead of that f1 sounding v10, what happened..
They definitely edited the video to make it seem like they weren't going much over the speed limit and that probably changed the sound.

Because he doesn't need to put a clear hood on it when it's showing off right now even better.. clear hoods look tacky... He should just get a fiberglass are carbon fiber one and wrap it if it doesn't look good as carbon fiber and take it off when he's at shows or not driving it

Just a clear spot over velocity stacks like a ZR1 has over the supercharger
I like how you stick cardboard on the radiator throughout the build to protect it, just to end up driving it around with the radiator fully exposed, heheh. ;-P
If it's not exposed enough it will overheat under any hard driving...and it's almost impossible to Install a radiator and build a complete cararound one without damaging the fins without doing that.. driving it around one afternoon isn't going to do anything to it.. literally Nothing
And no hood... no air filters...
For the hood you should do a four pin setup (two in front and two in back) then have four metal posts to set on top of the pins. Posts should be about 3 feet long to keep the hood elevated then when you take it to shows you can still show off the engine bay and keep the hood with it. My dad has this for his drag car and is a nice setup.
Looks marvelous. Insane that you got this project finished and onto the roads so quickly.
I know cameras make things look slower, but I expected more from circa 500bhp in a small car.

It's definitely not running right. The shifts are one huge giveaway.
yeah M mode was on but i didnt have the shift settings setup, i forgot about it, also i was going in and out of throttle because i didnt wanna end up going too fast off of camera frame
@@BisforBuild you know in M mode 70/80% throttle on the pedal related to 100% on the throttle bodies. So you will have been wide open at some points.
I think it would be wise to get the car dyno'd.
If it was my project my first road debut i would take it easy too. Got to get a feel for it before going 100%.
@@krismcleod272 sod that, foot down, see what happens. No point being scared of it. I have my doubts that it's that much lighter than an E60 anyway and he has plenty experience driving that.

So satisfying seeing it on the road, like watching your kid walk for the first time. Congrats. As a fellow project builder, a Z as well actually, you’ve got to keep going with it. Don’t stop now. Get it 10/10 before you move to the next project or it will never get there. Finish the tuning, the trunk, all of those odds and ends. You want something fresh and you’ll say you’ll come back to the Z but if you turn the page you’ll never come back. You owe it to the car and to yourself to button it up once and for all.

Love the car but how long will the engine last with no air filters and no hood to block road debris.
@@driftspecs13 you dont need to drive in rain to kill engine with no air filter + engine like this suck lots of air and he dont have inner fenders so all dust and trash from road but nevermind he can take engine from his gf can once this die :D
They found his original hood in Vegas and it’s being shipped back to him.
you just have to change your oil sooner. its not like a chip bag is going to get sucked in.

I also live about 40 mins from your part of town, "I recognize the exits on 217" and maybe I will get to see this beautiful car in the wild!!!
What! I wanted to see that supra-owner's reaction to the build, especially if he liked to much that he made an offer right there on the spot for it.
Would be really fun to see some reactions in a video of unsuspecting people maybe at a random car meet or something.
I'm guessing that he liked the car quite a bit as he tried to purchase it. 😊

One thing I’d definitely watch out for is rain getting into your trumpets, be it by not having a bonnet (hood) or through the cowl.
If you get water in your combustion chamber, you’re gonna have a bad time.

500hp in a car that weighs less than 2,500lbs is never slow. The camera just can't do it justice.. plus he wasn't all the way on the throttle.
The McLaren 720's looks slow on camera too when it's not next to another car racing... However Both are still faster than anything you've been in...

This build would look absolutely great with fender mirrors. I dont know if they were ever on the 240 but I dont think it would compromise the build at all, probably add to it. Amazing build I cant believe how much you can achieve with the tools you have. Enjoy your work xoxo

@@freedomfox8183 if he is driving in the street, the cars needs to have side mirrors simple as that, if is a race car then he needs to tow it to the track and not drive it on the street.
You guys can do so many good things to your car...in Australia you cant EVER and if you did..it would be certified as unroadworthy..and basically your car atays on the side of the road untill you get a tow..and you need to take it all off..so you need a "blue plate" or "engineering certificate"... but

No fiber glass(unless original)
No hood exits
Exhaust has to be unter a certain amount...something like 90 decibels
No filters or motor out of bonet
Or no bonnet...
No race harnesses
Everything must be secured
No battery secured is like $240 fine
No slicks...but you can get away with semi slicks
Must be over 200mm (coke can roll under car without touching anything) in hight of vehicle

argonian bilbo my 2017 golf also sounds like a manual when I shift it and it has a dsg trans.
Well, it kinda _is_ a manual - with a bunch of actuators bolted on to it to automate the gear changes.

He said this was a fair-weather car. I think Chris would be more worried about his open velocity stacks in rain than not having wipers. Also he addressed this saying he might just coat the windshield in Rain-X if need be

julian schanofski the SMG II found in the e60 M5 is dogshit. I don’t know why he decided to stick with it. But I will say that I know this powertrain very well and it was maybe 60-70% of it’s full potential and the SMG does shift faster in the highest shift setting which it does not sound like it’s in.

I still cannot believe this thing is done. I remember being so damn excited when this build was announced and so disappointed when the first body was destroyed. It has all come together in this beautiful masterpiece. I would do anything to ride shotgun in that thing for 10 minutes. I have always loved the 240s and want one in the future but this thing is a true 1/1. Good job Chris!

No but the chassis was constructed like something you would find under a 50's hotrod so I don't no why people even expect it to be fast. It's more like a gimmicky thing that's made to look fast if you ask me but of course there are load's of people being all defensive about it. Probably very few of them really no what their taking about though

Did you even watch the video??? That's definitely not what that car is for anyway no one cares about that.. 500 horsepower 2500lb car= faster then you want to go in your first garage built car lol.. this is more of a test to make sure it goes straight down the road and search for any issues

Wow what a sweet ride! My first drive with a stick was a 240 Z and it was yellow. I love that car and I will get one of my own. I owned a 350Z, a Nismo 370 Z which I just sold for a 2008 Audi R8. Keep up the good work man.

Is a truthful opinion. Maybe it was bad camera angle, but I think everybody is just expecting more for such a long project.

Great build,you have extra space to add another (extractor) electric fan on the two radiators(on demand)up-front with a switch.....you'll need it for track and hot days....!!!(cooling vents for front brakes are a must,especially for BMW rotors.......!!!
