    As a ASE Certified Body Man, Take your car to a good body shop with a frame machine and have them check it out. No one can determine whether the frame is damaged without frame alignment gauges. Especially unitized body ones. If the frame is OK, then the suspension can be check for damage. Failing to properly check the frame would be a big mistake.

Looks better on your resume and helps with adding some credibility, even though there are guys who are ASE and can't fix a sandwich, but that's a different conversation.

    Just replace the airbags.... all u gotta do is send in the SRS, or buy a new one, buy the airbags, and replace any melted wires. It's pretty standard across all cars.

    • @joeldoherty7100
      @joeldoherty7100 5 년 전 +8

      I agree, airbags need to be respected but they are nothing to be afraid of. I bought a wrecked Jeep Wrangler my daughter and I rebuilt for her to drive and both its airbags were blown. Found two replacement airbags, sent the airbag module out to be recoded, bought a couple new wire connectors from the same company that did the module reset for us and everything is like brand new. No airbag lights on after the initial startup test and the system is fully functional and safe. Why sacrifice the safety of the SRS system when it’s not difficult to get it working again? Discharge any power or capacitors before working on the system, follow the manufacturers guidelines for safety and always point the bags away from your face when you plug them in. Good to go!

    Nice project. Will def follow this. And my opinions (as someone who has spent 30 years doing this kind of stuff): as many others have said, keep the seats - or at the least, clean and sell them. You can buy heating mats for seats for next to nothing. Don't tear these seats apart for that. And do replace the airbags. Assuming all the mounting points are intact, why would replacing "bombs" be any more difficult than adding resistors? Look for used airbags if it's a money issue.

    • @redzone5655
      @redzone5655 5 년 전

      @@HashU69 tricky question. Since Nissan, BMW, Hyundai, dont make directly airbags (no company manufactures all car components) you can buy an after market part by the same supplier. You can buy OEM as well. But, you will have to reset the onboard ECU so that the car accepts the new part. Here you can go to the dealer or buy a powerful scan tool. I would say if you consider yourself savvy and a DIYer, go for it. If not, just pay the bill, because you may enter into a nigthmare.

      @oceanbytez847 5 년 전 +1

      @Barry Farrell, SmashFIlms technically the whole body is the frame... you cannot have house without a foundation... cant have a car without a frame. unibody is just a frame that also makes up a portion of the body as well along with some panels. Regardless a money pit. Even if you repair it i would not trust ANY of the old body parts in a new wreck. Crumple zones were only ever designed for 1 solid impact. after that buyer beware because it could be you that crumples next. Like i said if i bought a car that would cost me that much and potentially risk my life 500$ is the absolute most i would ever offer.
