    Yes the cv axle has the ability to slide freely out when the boot is not attached. It's to service the axle when replacing the boot but it's common just to replace the entire assembly because of the possibility of contaminates in the bearings. Hope you read this :D

    Semi-pro tip: Use chrome sockets, extensions, adapters for hand tools instead of the charcoal black versions.
    The chrome are a harder metal made for hand tools.
    The charcoal are a softer metal made for impact tools.

    @VinceThe123456 5 년 전

    Yes it is supposed to come apart easily like that. The only thing holding it together when out of the car is the boot so you do have to be careful. Once in the car the suspension and differential don't let it expand past a certain point so that's how it doesn't come apart in the car. Yes you could have just replaced the axle boot but that requires some disassembly of the axle which isn't super quick to do, depending on the price of the axle often times it does make more sense to just replace it.

    For anyone who has trouble with axle nuts, use a 3/4" breaker bar instead of a 1/2" one! I broke three 1/2" drive breaker bars and couldn't even get the nut off with a 4 foot extension! With the 3/4" breaker bar i got the nut off in 5 minutes without even a handle extension. The 3/4 flexes a lot less than the 1/2 drive so all the power goes into breaking the nut loose! Hope this helps someone in a pinch! Or buy a $600 1400lbft electric impact wrench :P

    The reason the axle separated like that is because there should be a snap ring that prevents those three roller bearings from being able to be pulled out of the cup (or bearing race)...subaru calls this a pillow tripod joint i believe...boots are cheap if nissan will sell you them...and if that is the case you can probably get the snap as well...if you can't find it that is...

  • @davidelliott5843
    @davidelliott5843 5 년 전

    An extension bar is best avoided on really tight fasteners. (1) the free end needs to be supported, but more importantly (2) the bar will twist and spring so you can never get the ultimate torque from your breaker bar. Just use the breaker bar direct with an impact spec socket. Ive not yet broken one but hey.
