Gemma James to each their own I guess. I personally think Citizen Kane is overrated though I do consider it as an important film of the time. I consider Parasite to be in the same league as Citizen Kane for being an important film in our current time as it reflects today's socioeconomic issues in elegant and engaging ways.

Rashik Hossain bc Alfonso Cuaron has a well-established brand name in Hollywood and Mexican or not he's still white. Roma was a beautifully shot film but it was way overhyped IMHO.

@@circarcadia Alfonso Cauron is very proud of his mexican heritage. He made a film in his native language to express his love for his culture, but people still refuse to acknowledge that his Mexican roots. He made it in Hollywood because he is a talented filmmaker, not for his skin color.
I feel the same way about Parasite. It's a good film but it's very overhyped

Rashik Hossain I never denied Cuaron's talent but ok. Just to make it clear I was pointing out the fact that it's easier for someone with European ancestry and name to make it in Hollywood than someone who is not. It's an undeniable truth and it's one of the main themes of Roma even.

Cuaron is a diffrent case, he makes English films
When he go for a bit and make a Spanish movie, they will still treat him as american filmmaker

I listened to a movie podcast where they interviewed QT at length and at one point, he freely admits he gets pissed off when he loses awards.

Tarantino loves Bong and his movies.. I think its just the way he looks.

@Commander Keen lol Tarantino definitely does copy others, but is also upfront about it. Unlike all the other creators who also copy and don't say a word. If anything, he should be commended on that because everyone else is getting "inspired" just as much as he is for their works. QT excels in his dialogue and his ability to take these individual inspirations and create something new. Especially with OUATIH, he deserves to win the screenplay award. Bong is an amazing filmmaker, but Parasite is easily one of his worst projects.

Liz Bbb still not Truman show though. Truman show is better and 20 years earlier but I still enjoyed parasite but it’s well overrated like most movies these days.

Lil Chaos it’s a toss up for best picture but 1917 might suffer from the preferential ballot voting system. In the past weeks Parasite has gained momentum with its WGA/SAG ensemble wins and now a BAFTA for screenplay. Like Spotlight, it didn’t win major best movie awards but I see it spoiling 1917. Also the BAFTA’s best film award has been wrong for 5 times in a row recently. The last successful pick was in 2014 for 12 Years a Slave.

Academy definitely ain't giving both Best Film and Foreign film for Parasite. 1917 it is or may be a surprise of OUATIH just because they known for patting their backs.

I was absolutely certain 1917 was taking production design but your comment made me check some of the other awards where I saw that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is having even more success. I really think 1917 deserves it, the sets are a central feature of why that film was so great.
