I was fishing Montana Creek in Alaska. Had waders on and fly fishing in river. Big bear came up and fished 30 feet from me. He hauled in more than I did. So much so that he play with them on the side of the river. It was the greatest moment of my life. Spent an hour with him. 😮

I was kind of thinking that this bear was the same little baby bear in the movie The Bear, all grown up. Foe anyone who's seen that movie, it will make sense with the little bears demeanor. That movie was freaking amazing. If you haven't seen it, it's definitely worth checking out. The Bear(1988).
Park ranger once told me: "if it's brown, lay down" Bear sees no threat, moves along. Also, "if it's black, fight back" and "if it's white, GOOD NIGHT!"
That's a great way to remember which 1 to "fight back" (as if!), make self big, loud, etc. I think I prefer brown bears, long as they don't have cubs. Then, no bear I'd want to run into!

As an American, I can say with extreme confidence that we generally don't head into the Alaskan wilderness without rifles. 65% of Alaskan residents own firearms, 25% of Alaskan residents are under the age of 18 and may not legally own firearms, which means only 10% of the residents do not own firearms (or ar least not traceable firearms). Please believe, at least a few of these individuals are armed lol.

I used to camp by a river in Yosemite many years ago because the sound of flowing water, was so soothing. I could see and hear, bears crossing the river all the time.

Animals are so funny. I had a dog charge towards me, and I kept walking as if it wasn't there, then it suddenly darted off in the opposite direction.

I used to camp by a river in Yosemite many years ago because the sound of flowing water, was so soothing. I could see and hear, bears crossing the river all the time.
