@conor mccormack Man I'm sorry but when you launch a rocket you don't go straight up. The rocket just looks like it's getting smaller because
1: it's getting more distant from the camera and
2: after a few kilometers the rocket angles slightly which just so happens to be away from the camera, causing it to look strange from the surface.
@conor mccormack You're seeing the rocket push harder into the atmosphere, which in turn means a harder burn. If you're flying hundreds or thousands of m/s in any direction you'll begin to experience a lot of friction. I'd imagine they're increasing throttle to compensate, meaning a larger flame.
