One pf the best videos of modern technology ive ever seen. It doesnt appear complicated and its only a relatively small peace of machinery but its so clean and precise. Resembles something of what humans thought the future was gonna be like in the 90s.

With a basic understanding of simple machines and a 30 second video of operation most mechanically minded people can get 80% of what is happening. The other 20% is software and electronics.

So the only part that's "wasted" is the scraps of the last bar you have used, and that is until you use another. Plus, like the commenter above me said, the bars themselves are relatively cheap unless you use some fancy alloy that costs a shit ton of money
Very nice 👌 you have a specific place and precision toolset to deal with and I guess it’s the game of patience . I was industrial electrician used to watch when ever I happened to be in shop floor . Mostly our work troubleshooting of cement machineries nobody even bothers what we do they wanted everything running 😢.
If it’s being controlled by a computer then it’s cnc, computer numerical control, tool heads tend to be carbide, especially when machining steel, it needs to be a material with a higher hardness index than the material it is cutting

It's fun to watch at this speed. I'm not impressed though as kids were making things like this this in my high school machine shop , on basic lathes, in the late 80s, albeit not as quick as shown here.
In all the videos I watch of maching metal or wood, they put a 6" piece of stock to turn a chess piece. I worked in a fab shop for years. I was taught to save every piece I could because it could be used on a potential job. The only scrap we had, nothing else could be gotten out of it.

I was a machinist for 45+ years. Retired a couple of years ago. I really do miss it.

I remember having to do this by coordinates and writing out the code myself. Then they introduced us to solid works and master cam.
Honestly, CNC machines are so much valued invention. You can land serious money having knowledge about these beasts.

I used to sharpen and create bits from stock for different cutting angles and applications. those replaceable bits replaced me.
Half of the skill is to use good quality steel stock, not any old Re-Bar.
