I think, this is from food theory - Four Loko orginally had caffeine, but because of health problems it was banned to add caffeine into alcholic drinks. And now it seems it's different kinda of alcholic drink.
Hmmm... I know of at least two local breweries in my area that have beers with caffeine in them. I think they are served on tap only though, so maybe it had to do with distribution regulations
I was in college during the Four Loko era, it was incredibly chaotic and dangerous. It definitely needed to be regulated, but I've got a lot of nostalgia for the intense times involved.

Macro-lagers are pretty much junk, but they're consistent and inoffensive, for the most part.
Craft and even macro-craft blows everything they had out of the water.
These are also all tall boys which are mostly mass produced junk for pure cheap alcohol consumption. Bottles and regular size cans have tons of better options. Also Heineken is bad and multiple beers here are better

I think on the east coast bud ice is marketed as natural or natty ice and it is bottom of the barrel for beers, its only selling point is its higher alcohol content and how cheap it is, where I used to work those tall cans were sold for a buck fifty each.

This reminds me of a story my dad had. He's never been much of a drinker, but a bunch of his friends got together, gathered up all the varieties of beer from what they thought were best to worst and drank down the line until they couldn't tell the difference between what they thought was the best (which was unclear) to what they thought the worst. If you guessed that they thought Pabst Blue Ribbon was the one they believed the worst, you guessed correctly.
How, Pabst is literally just flavored water, you live on that shit when you go to biking competitions in the mountains.

PBR isn't even "east coast", it's Midwestern. It's brewed in Milwaukee. I know someone who used to work at one of the official breweries they made it at.
BTW: I only love PBR because that's the one cheap beer that is good. As Connor said "It's very passable". Get like a 30 pack for $10 or less. PBR and Miller High Life are the best cheap American beer imo. Not because they're good, but because they're not bad.

First off, Modelo sure as hell is better than Heineken, so don't listen to Connor on that. Everything else though is indeed our worst selection. It's cheap beer that is just trying to get the job done.
I personally start with micros and then switch to these bad boys once I'm at the point where I don't really care about the taste and just want to keep the buzz going lol.

As someone who's worked at an OXXO I'm pretty sure it comes to no surprise to some of us that Pacifico was well received when they came into the store around mid 2019 (at least in the south where i worked) was a well sold one. With Modelo entering the store as well Tecate nearly stopped selling entirely. Michelob ultra also sold pretty well, id say more than normal modelo
Adding a little more onto this, Modelo and Michelob also out sold Corona. Four lokos hardly sold, not very popular though with how often people came in to buy beers and diapers but just to leave the diapers if they didn't have enough money (the same people in a single day) I'm surprised those didn't sell at all.

Man I grew up in oklahoma and we used to have super restrictive alcohol laws. Beer sold anywhere but liquor stores were called "oklahoma plus" which meant they could not be higher than 3.2% alcohol. When I finally started coming around to be able to tolerate beer I was probably 25. I knew oklahoma beer was watered down but never had anything different. I then went to vegas for a radio convention. One night I was sitting in a casino playing slots and decide to get a bud light. Because I knew it was something I was familiar with and knew they had. That first sip of it was this confusing "why is it thick like milk?" But the taste wasn't too different so I drink a couple more. Then decide its time to walk back to my hotel. When I stood up the room started spinning. I am not much of s drinker but knew I could handle 3 beers over an hour just fine. Apparently thats 3 oklahoma beers... Anyways this law has since changed and we have normal beer. I don't really drink but glad to know this is not happening to other people from oklahoma now.
I am honestly a little sad Miller High Life was not on this. Neither was Natty Ice (Natural Ice) but I think its probably about the same as Coors or Busch. It is the cheap party beer. Or it was when I was a teen. Maybe I have weird false memories of Miller High Life though but I remember it having a slight sweetness to it and not in a bad way.

Ludwig said that Mike's hard isn't beer... However Mike's hard is a "flavored malt beverage" which is considered by the us govt to be beer.
From a regulation standpoint it's mixed in with the beers but it's definitely not beer it's way closer to a wine cooler and the hard seltzer version like they had is even less like a beer

international brewers outside america somehow make better craft beers. Best light beer i've tasted came from a microbrewery in Asia and it was infused with orchids/florals/fruits that was at the perfect levels to hide the bitter aftertaste of the beer. Carbonation was done just right, not too harsh, not too light. Surprisingly America's neighbor Canada makes strong dark beers that are perfectly balanced and actually doesn't taste offensive.

Mickeys was considered to be the "champagne of malt liquors" when I was growing up. Olde English 800 (8-ball) was for everyday. Tecate is Mexican water. Pacifico has been a perennial favorite of mine. Always picked over Corona or Modelo if there was a choice. Dos Equis, we'd say that was what your eyes would look like in the anime if you drank too much of it. Four Loko is the successor to Sparks, which is the caffeinated alcohol that we had in the early-mid 2000s.

I think if you walk into a random supermarket in Belgium, Germany, Austria, Poland, Czech and buy 20 different brands of beer, all 20 will be better than Heineken.

I’m not gonna lie to you boss. Ludwig’s a cali boy and connors not even American. Heineken is booty 3/4 times you buy it. It’s DEFINITELY not a good beer here either. The better beers tend to be the Mexican beers, Dos Equis, corona extra, and tecate. Modelo sometimes but mainly just the original one.
