RAF Lakenheath might carry the name RAF, but it is a USAFE base and home to four combat ready fighter squadrons under its wing. The base is home to the birth of 'SKIM THE FENCE' and 'SKIM THE VAN' where the F-15E Strike Eagles and F-35A Lightning pilots like to show us all how it's done.

Which is your favourite at RAF LAKENHEATH, the F-15E or the F-35A?
The F-35s at Lakenheath are the A variant and they have some very unique characteristics of the three main variants. They have a 'Vulcan-like' howl and although they cannot hover, they are the variant of the ABC that can pull +9Gs. They are incredible to watch and hear.
RAF Lakenheath is the home of the 48th Fighter Wing. Armed with four fighter squadrons which include the 492nd FS, 493rd FS, 494th FS and the newly reactivated 'Valkyries', the 495th Fighter Squadron.
Although the base carries the name of RAF, it is in fact a UNITED STATES AIR FORCE. Historically, the 48th FW has been the foundation of USAFE's combat capability and remains so today...it is known as LIBERTY WING. All aircraft belonging to RAF Lakenheath will carry the tail code LN. If you see an aircraft with different letters, then youve seen an aircraft from a different airbase....
So a little intro to the fighter squadrons:
492nd are the Bolars and Madhatters, they fly the F15E Strike Eagle
493rd are the legendary GRIM REAPERS. They were briefly deactivated with their F-15C and F-15D in April 2022 but have been requipped with the F35A oooooh yeah
The 494th are nicknamed the Panthers and fly the F-15E Strike Eagle
Finally, we have the 'Valkyries', the 495th Fighter Squadron who became the first overseas USAF to operate the F-35A...oooooh yeah! They were reactivated after 30 years on the 1st October 2021

Unfortunately surgery did not go ahead as I had a bad fall, dislocated left pinky, several broken finders on right hand and right eye shiner with several broken bones in the eye socket love you guys trouble typing at minute but taking my time xxx

Catching up with streams now. Yet another insight into how you do a quick climb in either an F35 or F15. Really are such a spectacular watch. A brief explanation into why no 06 end recently. Has its issues down there for fan access therefore Car park is preferred. Particularly love Wingy and his choco Mars bar, chocs away! Not before he koshed! Red Ted lol 😆. But Red Ted always upto Mischief namely with the Fweep Counter. A little later on Red Ted had stolen Wingy's Mars bar. 😮. Still no respite from the rain though this did not affect the very low approaches and turn out! Nothing stops the 48FW. The neverending spooling of Pratt & Witney rings out around the base adding to the atmosphere. Sadly another rain shower dropped in as we got to see the C17 do it's stuff hurtling down the tarmac and away.

Well done on escaping the weather just about and celebrating with that oh so graceful C17 take off. She a beauty on the ground and in the air. Despite the wind such brilliant presenting and Camerawork. Which is just what needed with so much action. KC and Ted made me smile. Lol 😆. Watup!! So many low approaches, steep climb and turn outs. High keys are the best aren't they? With the Steep angle approach are a true sight to behold. 2 ships too a plenty. Back in action with F15 with their quick climb, we've missed them in any sort of numbers. They are a welcome sight. F35 quick climbs though are without doubt my favourite. Like Arrows pointed to the heavens then blink and they're gone. The speed and skill shown are wonderful. Makes me want to be right there with you. Seen many live but will be watching again live. Just stunning action from the 48thFW everytime. We are blessed and honored at their presence in the UK. 🫡🇺🇲🇬🇧. F35A , F15E just rock. How lucky are we? Plus we can have top notch Camerawork and presenting skills to bring it all together with no worries or problems. Appreciate the effort put in. Till the next mayhem filled stream. So long legends 🫡👍
