2nd generation was the best era ever, they had no worries about crazy fans and people judging everything they did, groups were actually friends and were able to hang out during the broadcasts. KPOP was a precious secret to those that started back in 2010 ish. That's why that generation supports each other openly without any fan war...
I miss this era so much. Was the era I found Kpop and it sucks to see idols be so uncomfortable around each other now. Bring back 2nd generation level interactions

2NE1 & Bigbang is the group that got me into Kpop. Their discography is absolutely gold and definitely no skips in their albums. They set the trends and lead the pack. 2NE1 are queens and were unstoppable during their active years.

BEAST/Highlight have amazing vocals. the guy with the reddest hair is part of the duo called "Trouble Maker" with Hyuna. Btw, Highlight came out on "Killing Voice" not long ago and you can really appreciate their vocals here.

YG should've kept 2NE1. They are the 1st females in kpop that brought out those fashion and were pretty fierce and confident with it. They are with Big Bang and worked aside them so I wouldn't be surprised that Big Bang was their inspiration behind their fashions. Also their outfits are literally created, design, made by themselves. The leader of the group is CL. I'm sure you heard of her? She has music and a solo album out. You should review her song Hello Bitches.

Nah business wise it was right from YG to focus all their effort on Blackpink and let 2ne1 go. BP is just more talented and marketable in every aspect. In the end it paid off for YG. They created the biggest kpop group in the world after BTS

Btw, 2pm is a group full of actor, ok taecyon the the one in vincenzo, junho even won daesang this year as an actor, nickhun is actor in thai/china, changsung is also an actor, jun.k is musical actor, wooyoung also act in dream high back in 2010.

Thank you so much for bringing this series back! It was one of my favorites and now we get some VIXX to get in to! You are in for such a treat with them. VIXX is truly one of the more underrated KPOP groups that took concept art and story to a whole new level.
BEAST (now called HIGHLIGHT, they changed name when they created their own company in 2017) are really wholesome, I think you'd like their vibe in general.
For old school groups, TVXQ!, SES now that some of the MVs have been remastered by SM. Would also recommend Shinhwa, Turbo and After School (as well as the group unit Orange Caramel).
Edit: also ZE:A, they have been on hiatus for a while though but aren't disbanded. Kwanghee is so funny 😂
T.o.p and Taeyang are my biases from Big Bang. Ik everyone loves G-Dragon and he gets lots of praises but T.O.P is my boy doe!

I am addicted to the "Chained Up" song by Vixx. For some reason, it just pumps me up for the day when I listen to it. I also love 2pm Bris. I don't know if you have watched it yet, but I think you would love their video "A.D.T.O.Y". The song is hot. The vocals are on point as well.
Ah Beast brought back memories and Junho from 2pm, excuse me while I go blush and as for Vixx so bloody underrated, the only group I could never pick a bias!!!!
2PM is known for its more mature sexy vibe with an R&B influence. My House, ADTOY, and Make It are some good MV examples, but they are 🔥🔥🔥 on stage. Their signature when they were a young group was acrobatics and they beat their bodies up pretty hard. I’m glad they have more chill choreo than newer gens for that reason alone, but they also sing live, which can be difficult with complex choreo. For their old song I’ll Be Back, they trained by singing while running on running machines - if you ever do a throwback that far in their discography, you’ll see why.

2nd Gen kpop groups are really gold! It is what paved the way for 3rd-4th Gen groups right now
Vixx are constantly slept on (I will say "On and On" is one of my favorite songs of theirs but the second-hand embarrassment watching the MV is too real) but they are fantastic performers. If you were into the vocals try Vixx LR's "Beautiful Liar" MV.
That is Taeyang in GD's MV, 20+ years of pre/post-debut best friendship means they tend to pop up in each other's solos pretty often.
If you want to learn more about 2PM their Knowing Brother episode is both informative and hilarious.
"I Am the Best" used to be in a Microsoft commercial in the U.S. around 2014ish which might be why it's familiar. I'd say even for KPop 2NE1's fashion is pretty out there. They were also under YG and worked closely with Big Bang which might be why their fashion reminds you of GD.
Random Beast fact: Hyunseung was almost the fifth member of Big Bang but lost the spot to Seungri, although they were both initially eliminated from the running.

I do wanna say that at the time GD put the biracial kids in his video it was seen as some huge thing and started a lot of shit (and discussions) online, and he did it because bigbang are a group that WILL tell you that everything they do is influenced by black culture and they understand that and try to pay respect to it. G Dragon says the music that made him love music was WuTang. It was still scarce to even see black people on TV much less in a music video in SK at that time. So for him that was a statement of respect, idk if it comes off like that but that was the intent. Also the other guys around in hoodies are yg ent and yg family. And they aren't putting on a facade or acting on a trend, that's just them.
We could cringe but for the time it was put out ... Lol I don't think they'd do it the same now.

FYI Beast used to be under CUBE entertainment (same as (G)I-DLE), but after their contrast ended, 5/6 of the members made their own company AroundUs and renamed as Highlight. Even though sadly, Junhyung also left the group, but the rest of the 4 members are still actively making music after they all finished their military service. They recently just had a comeback with *Daydream* , and I think you will like their songs *Plz Don’t Be Sad* and *Can Be Better*

They ruled over the whole k pop industry back when they were active, they rule the world today with their surprize reunion ✨️ the scene with them smashing records with a bat that has 'hit' written on it in their MV, is a direct link to them literally smashing records with their hit songs. Records that were set by them, with previius songs. 2NE1 has actually contoured the image of the majority of girl groups nowadays, they're also the blueprint for Blackpink.
VIXX are absolute concept KINGS. you gotta check out their other stuff, insanely talented group that literally got me into kpop

The nostalgia feels hitting right in the heart. So happy to see you going back and doing this series again. It warms my and so many other Kpop fans’ hearts. I remember when I first got back into Kpop on 2009 and it was such an amazing experience. The music, the fashion, the music videos, the groups being able to actually interact and be friends, and so much more it was such an amazing time to be alive. There’s so many other groups for you to find and the ones you’ve already seen have so much more content to dive into. Personal recommendations from an old KPop fan: T-ARA, Infinite, B.A.P, KARA, History, Cross Gene, Super Junior, H.O.T, S.E.S, B1A4, Sistar, Boyfriend, ToppDogg, Girl’s Generation, Nell, Brown Eyed Girls, 9Muses, Unique, SHINHWA, U-KISS, MissA, F(X), and that’s all that’s all that I can think of off the top of my head but there’s certainly more with lots of great songs to explore. To answer your question: yes! I am the best was song of the year 2011 at the Korean MAMA awards, and the most viewed Kpop video of 2011. Up until that point 2NE1 was also the most awarded group at the MAMA’s in 2009 & 2010

Chained up is one of vixx's and kpop's most iconic songs. As you can see its a bdsm concept and since it made by vixx aka the concept kings, it was deep and detailed as much as it could be. They made 2 different side of Chined up album and they gave a slave contract ( signed with a fingerprint of a random member) in the control ver., the other one had a user's guide in it to tell you how to use your slave ( freedom ver.)

Haven’t watched it fully yet but it’s so nice to see so many of the people I liked when I was first getting into kpop! It’s like walking down memory lane lol although I definitely still listen to all of these

If I remember correctly, ONE OF A KIND really gave light to the hiphop scene in SK. Because at the time it was criticized and frowned upon as too “ghetto” yet GD just casually put it on mainstream media. Its why hiphop artists really love and respect him.
Most of these videos were all my first videos I've seen of these idols. 2NE1 I am the best was trending 1 on KRplus at the time so I clicked and boom.. I was sucked into kpop just like that. Beast beautiful nights was my first beast video too. I WAS ADDICTED TO THAT SONG! (Still am) ya. . The song is just a vibe. I found Bigbang thru 2ne1 when watching lollipop mv. I put myself in the rabbit whole and I blame Anime 🤣 for having such good music. If it was for me looking up who sung anime endings and opening youtube wouldn't have recommended me anything from Asian culture. Not that I'm complaining. Gen 2 and the early artists of Gen 3 that still had a Gen 2 flavor were PEAK artists. They didn't need flashy dance moves and the simple ones they had were able to be done by everyone. Like Beast's footwork in "Fiction" was ICONIC. There's a really good mashup by DJ Masa for 2012 Kpop and it honestly highlights one of my favorite eras in kpop. From 2008-2013 is my favorite time honestly. Artists these days are good but nothing beats THAT era.
