I'm a trucker. 3 million miles. 28 years affiliated with active duty military. I've lived all around the world.
In 2002 Ivwalked in on my wife in bed with another man. Rocked my world.
I had a plan to kill myelf. "AA" highway, between Greenup, KY and Cincinnati, OH. The highway ran along the KY-OH state line. Many big hills. I would drag up the hills and fly down them. A drag&fly as we truckers called it. I'd been up & down the "AA" over a 100 times. There are a lot of rock faces. I was REAL heavy. 110 thousand pounds at least. Suicide? I'da felt no more than a pinch hitting one of those rock faces.
It was about 2:30am. Dark and clear. I hadn't seen another vehicle in an hour or more either direction. I was southbound. I felt like I was the only person on earth. I had my spot picked out. A rock face at the bottom of a huge hill. Right at the Grayson, KY cut of the "AA" that went right to Grayson, KY, at the top of that hill I started changing gears. I'da been going 100+MPH before I got to that rock face. "I'da felt no more than a pinch." That's what I was telling myself while I cried and prayed as I went through the gears. I was at the end my rope. "IT WAS THE END FOR ME. THE END OF THE PAIN."
The huge hill curved slightly right as I descended. 1/4-1/2 a mile the view cleared to see the Grayson cut, a streetlight to light the intersection. As I curved right and the view cleared, I saw a big truck, a green Freightliner with a 53' foot white semi-trailer on the back of it. It was pointed right towards the Grayson cut and it was sitting accross my southbound lanes. I start backing it down, slowing down. The truck apparently saw me a moved out of my way. As I approached the intersection I reached up and grabbed the CB mic and asked, "hey big truck at the Grayson cut, you lost or somethin?" When he spoke I passed that rock face. He said, "I'm looking for Greenup, KY, Ashland, KY." I said, "its south, the way I'm going." I said, "you can turn around. I haven't seem a headlight for an hour or more." To late, he already turned south and was coming up the hill behind me. I said, "I'm gonna stop at the top of this hill and cool a tire" which meant I was gonna stop a pee between the truck and my trailer. Which I did. As a finished I looked back and he had pulled up behind me and stopped. A black guy had stepped out of the passenger side of the truck and was waving to me to come back there. I'ma fearless guy, no worries, I walked back there. The guy pointed up in the truck and said "look." I loo
ked and saw an old black man, couldn't have been more than a buck 05 (105lbs) soaking wet, and he said, "come up in here son, lets have a talk." So I stepped up, he patted this wooden box between the seats, the younger black guy stepped up behind me and sat in the seat. A young black woman, maybe his wife or sister in the bunk reached up and turned off the tv. I never looked back again. The old salt and pepper haired black man took my hand and said, "tell me whats going on in your life son." I said," man, there'd be a flood of emotion in this place if I tell this story." He said, "son, when you're a child of God we have no control over when it starts or when it ends." (😢) I said "but I walked in and caught her cheatin." He said, "just drive your truck and start you a new life." "You ain't the first one its ever happened to."
He gave me a copy of the New Testament and A Bible promise book and said, "Now don't be thinking any other way no more."
I didn't ever speak to the other two people. Don't remember even looking or seeing them again. I walked back to my truck and drove.
At 110k pounds I went up those hills at 12-15 mph. I never saw their headlights again for the 50 miles it was to Greenup, KY.
To me, God looks like a salt and pepper haired old black man, no more than a buck 05 soaking wet.
I am unworthy of this tremendous savior. 😢😪😢A power that can't possibly be known in its entirety.
Why did he save me for this collapse? I don't know what I'm supposed to do or where I'm supposed to be. My brain never sleeps. Well, rarely anyway.
