I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the algorithm realized that he kept skipping all the way to the end of the Mr. Beast videos instead of actually watching them and that's the only reason it started giving him anything else.
I feel like it has to know. If clicking through a video gave watch time that would be big bot industry. A thousand bots clicking through the video every second so that you have like five million hours of watch time after a few actual real life hours? It would be broken
I am pretty sure watch time counts as seconds passed with the player not in pause or seeking, so yes it very much should stop showing you content which you skip.
@@Tzankotz pretty sure Ludwig had a sort of script that tricked youtube into thinking he watched the whole thing. You can see his cursor click somwhere on the title to go to the next video (you don't see what he clicks, just where he clicked since he probably did a window share instead of his usual screen share)

The algorithm really treated it like a kid was watching on a dads account because the second the mrbeast videos stopped it immediately went to sports, documentaries, mafia stories, to full on movies.
Then the soft reset brought it back to meme videos for kids

In fairness to the algorithm, if someone has literally sat down and watched 100 Mr Beast videos in a row, its probably safe to guess that they’d be interested in 101 too. It doesn’t know you’re doing a KRplus Any%, as far as it knows you keep watching because you keep being engaged, and you as a user have never looked up any non-beast related content, so as far as it knows thats all you’re interested in.
Since i don’t watch Mr. Beast’s videos i never get those recommendations. It is not unexpected that youtube would promote their most successful creators first in order to encourage viewer retention, and if you never click anything else that can self-reinforce based on the lack of actual human input.

This is because KRplus doesn't want compilation channels to be trending, so they cannot appear on the home page. It might just be that these channels haven't been flagged as compilation channels

I will say that although I much preferred the line immediately after the soft reset, it did ruin the science of trying to figure out where KRplus auto play takes you after 1000 videos if left undisturbed.
This was meant to be entertainment first, not really science. The science part was over by the second video, and a lot of things interfered with the "experiment" from then on. Every video should either have been skipped after a set amount of time (for example 10 seconds) or should have been played in full (which is basically impossible in a livestream). Also, no skipping forward in videos to check what's in the middle or end, and no scrolling down the page to check the recommended (which loads comments == engagement).

@@VenomousMoses I agree, but I think what they meant is more along the lines of: even if he did keep just the one line, due to him randomly loading comments on some videos, completely skipping some, fully watching others, bouncing around the vid he's watching, etc. it wouldn't be a good test anyway, as it's not just YT feeding him videos, but him telling YT which of the vids he has watched he 'cares' about, or engages in.
The best test would be an account like he started with, finding one vid to start at, then just leaving the website to run videos until 1000

Ive noticed autoplay on my account at least likes to play a bunch of vods, every time i wake up im halfway on a 4 hour long ludwig video
Im pretty sure this is just what the algorithm does after a few autoplays everytime. I fall asleep to my favorite hearthstone creator, end up on hearthstone vods when i wake up. Fall asleep to a random pokemon video, end up on a wolfeyvgc tournament video where he just talks through his run for 2 hours. Fall asleep to Kurzgesagt/Lemmino/Vsauce? End up in the craziest most in depth 4 hour video on the mechanics of a neutron star.

There’s so many things the algorithm could theoretically take into account that you just can’t control for. Time of day, when you pause/play a video, how long you pause/play a video, the wifi network you’re connected to (and location), other people also connected to that network, cookies in your browser, etc, etc
Fun experiment though
He should have tried this experiment by going into Google Chrome incognito mode, deleting all cookies, or using a different computer. Even if you have recommendations turned off, KRplus is still using cookies to recommend stuff to you.
Could create a virtual machine, because then the only variable that could affect it would be the wifi you're using.

yes but to be fair a legit run would take at least 17 straight days or about 400 hours of watching KRplus. and that's if you're lucky. you could get stuck in long form media and easily turn 17 into 130

i really love good witch, i've watched it multiple times and it's a really good feel-good tv series.
it's about a (sort of) witch that sometimes just knows what is going to happen before it happens, and she uses that "intuition" to help others. it's hard to explain/describe but i really recommend that show, trust me, you won't regret it!
Watch time also play a huge role so if you skip videos, the algorithm switches things up.

KRplus recommendations growing up was not the storyline i expected
Yo someone get this idea to ludwig. Basically it's the Wikipedia game but instead on KRplus. He starts at "Me at the zoo again," but this time he's trying to find his own KRplus Live Stream, he's allowed to click on the recommendations instead of just auto play. But its only the youtube recommendation grid from the end of the video

As someone who works in an industry tangentially related to KRplus and content creation (digital marketing, my company mostly focuses on video ads), the algorithm almost certainly takes into account what percentage of the video you've actually watched/let play, so skipping ahead as you're doing might not be the most accurate way of actually "testing the algorithm", but the video was very entertaining nonetheless. I would be really interested in seeing the results if the videos just played all the way through but obviously that would take way too long lol.

@@JeskidoYTIf youtube doesn't save any data about the videos you watch, it won't recommend you anything based on that. Ludwig was essentially just getting autoplayed videos similar to the one he was currently watching.
His reason for turning it off was because he was getting ludwig related recommendations because of his main channel but realistically he should've just done this in a different browser/incognito mode

I say this because previously, you could go and wipe all video history and you'd get a "fresh" youtube, like all of the top videos and kids videos and stuff, nothing I normally watch. This no longer works for me, even with zero videos in the history and wiped search history, I still get a very similar set of videos shown to me as before wiping the history.

The man just proved the algorithm. If a type of video gets skipped often enough, autoplay picks the next category. Categories are determined maybe based on community interest, or I think more likely is by ad revenue

I thought about a similar video concept a few months ago ironically, and actually meant to send the idea over your way for thoughts lol basically you and/or another person (BvB style), would log onto a random default hotel computer. And then going onto the untainted YT homepage, without logging into any accounts, and scroll through the home YT feed, skipping any videos you wouldn't watch all the way through, until one person gets to a legitimate video that they would/could watch normally if they came upon it via their usual account homepage feed. Yeah its a Lil tanky n a bit extra in the legwork dept but your video here reminded me of content idea rough drafts 😅😅😂

The thing I noticed pretty much every video was a Big channel KRplus didn't recommend many smaller channels from what I saw most were 100k + Sub Channels only a handful were under that number.

I never watched a mister beast video in my life. None of the first 30 auto plays were a video of him. If you're going to do this challenge, I recommend to do it in a private window. Where you're not logged in and no cookies can influence the flow.

fun fact video 161 the person the documentary is about is my neighbor jared. He recently comitted to duke and moved out there and his family has been living there for a while but still own there house right across from me so its just empty. i used to see him working all the time and i dog sat for his family for a while. He has like a mil on tik tok and is a top prospect for basket ball which is kinda cool.

Sometimes I use auto play when I’m listening to music, cause I like to add new stuff to my playlist, but every now and then it gives me some random game playthrough since I watch those so much. I personally like that it tries to give you the same content but that’s just cause I use it to listen to music
