I think the logic of not having a calculator on ipad is that the simple default calculator app designed for the small Iphone screen blownup to the size of an ipads display was probably really ugly. I bet they'll add more stuff like that when ipad gets more and more multitasking support

Make Siri a flat line on the bottom of the screen that waves.
Add support for other smart watches.
Add full screen camera support.
Allow users to customize control panel more.

No doubt that is definitely going to R&D/ internal testers within the next few weeks. Even the willingness to do this interview is a big sign that Apple wants input on this, and especially Marques’ input.

I actually felt like he had a small epiphany when Marquess brilliantly just said that you could swipe it away, while his first take was to ask about the timing and potentially something Apple thought about before, which would be irrelevant here.

Then he proceeds to tell him to go iphone exclusive and that apple is too lazy to make a calculator app thats only like 500kb at most. Then he proceeds to say how they "looked at all the common apps" people want to replace...I want to replace ALL OF THEM, and most people will agree, that maps, safari, mail, calendar, photos/gallary are all meh on ios compared to android.

Say what one may about Apple, but there are a handful of executives at the top of a company that actually reads, responds and takes into consideration the criticism or praise customers may have. Tim, Craig, Joz, Angela (when she was there at Apple) are a handful of those. I truly respect that aspect of those execs.

I know what happened. Every dev team works the same, even Apple‘s. And the calculator and weather app are in the backlog for development. But they never made it into the "to do list" of their developers (e.g. in the sprint if they do scrum). So also Apple has some low hanging fruits that never make it into development. Every dev team has these.
In short, they just forget it over and over again to schedule it for development.

I do understand that they want to do more than just scale up the exact same appearance/interface of a dinky little iPhone app designed for iPhone, but couldn’t they make the default appearance on iPad have all of those functional buttons that you see when you rotate your phone? With a little more space to spare? Maybe add order-of-operations-style input where there’s parentheses and multiple numbers operated on before you hit “enter” or “calculate” or whatever? They want to utilize what makes the iPad different from the iPhone if they’re gonna make an iPad calc app. I understand the motivation for why there’s not one, but as a random joe-shmoe Internet commenter, I came up with reasonable ideas for utilizing those differences so I feel like the absence of it, while understandable from a motivation perspective, doesn’t hold up because of how long it’s taking them to “come up with something that feels right” or whatever.
