Well because, plot twist: Michael shot all of Vsauce’s video in the span of a week, 7 years ago.
I'm a masters graduate and Michael here is more clear, rational and wise than all my teachers combined since elementary. It is always such a pleasure learning science and concepts in this way. Love it! Please continue this Michael.
I was called out by my a person I considered my teacher, I've looked up to. ironically for being bad at trying to explain things to others. Maybe don't meet your heroes, someone said that, now I get it.
But I liked explaining things, and I did it to understand things better as I learn, maybe I was being selfish for doing it like that, maybe I was causing confusion on others by being so bad at it.
I felt so disincentivized that I dropped pursuing my masters, and academy .

I love the endings to these videos. I find them inspirational to change wrong things to make them better. The most taxing question on the mind is if what we do now will benefit or hurt the future. What would historians find? What would future generations learn about us and what we right now did? Every action will be watched by our children 100 years later. That’s hard to think about, it inspires me as a person to improve people’s life’s and to show our children that we were good people. We can’t be self centered all of the time. As a collective society we need to help and take care of people around us and ourselves, but that’s hard, but it can be done. For us, for the future, for the world.

7:39 me and my friend had almost this exact same discussion the other day about something else. I didn't want to do something and I gave a reason which he was able easily counter until I put in the work to figure out a good enough reason.
It mainly happened because I didn't realize he was quite as passionate about it, nor just how lazy I was feeling about the idea. I could've just said no and thats final, but it would've made my friend upset with me for a while, so socially you need powers of reasoning.
Just wanted to express love for your capture of early internet optimisation, genuinely warms my heart.

Here's my "reasoning" of the result of that magician experiment:
(1) People were forced to make a binary choice. It might have been that they wanted to work with neither, or both.
(2) The experiment was more akin to "finding excuse" than finding reason, when almost zero information apart from a photo was available.
(3) These people might have considered both pros and cons for selecting each photo. You asked for the pros, then they would give you only the pros.
These are key points you make.
I like that the scripts of these videos come out like a single stream of consciousness, like Michael was just sitting on a couch one day, writing down every thought that came to him as it came to him.

It's too bad KRplus removed fan subtitles. They were abused, sure, but they should've given creators the ability to moderate and ban from using it and themselves moderate it.
Anyways yeah, subtitles are great, even if you don't entirely need them. Sometimes I like having them on because it can be easier at times.

Wow! I randomly had the thought that politicians felt insufficient because they don't represent the needs and voices of an entire nation. They only support the needs of those like them and that's not good enough. That's why we have presidents that inevitably disappoint someone. You could reason how a president has done some good for a nation, but then you can also reason how they performed poorly.
To hear that thought come to life in the words of such an intelligent person is so validating. I vote for the idea of lottocracy. I hope enough people get talking about that idea so our governments can be reformed one day. I'd gladly join that fight!

If this just sounds crazy to you, you would be doing yourself a huge favor by reading Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto (this is where the wealth distribution scam originated).

As a not dyed-in-the-wool Marxist, but definitely a socialist myself, as soon as I saw the Bill Gates book, I was tempted to write the video off as exactly what you said it was: propaganda from a self-interested billionaire. But after watching the whole thing, I appreciated the nuanced and historically accurate discussion of what democracy is, its originally intended meaning, how it's evolved over time, and why it works.
Now let me ask you this: since, as a socialist, I had the same initial off-putting feeling as you, doesn't that suggest that maybe this whole thing being a "Marxist plot" isn't quite right? Wouldn't I have been immediately on board if that was the case? And what makes you think one of the most financially successful capitalists of all time would be pushing Marxism?

Honestly this might be one of the most important videos I’ve ever seen. I think about this constantly even two years after it came out. It explains so much about the things I hear people say, and has changed the way I communicate for the better.
