I love that the song is 100% deliberate in painting Bruno as the bad guy but when we finally meet him, he's a nervous wreck who just wants to be loved by his family and not be seen as a burden due to his gift. With context it makes the family look terrible but they you realize that their grandmother was the one to make them believe that.
Thing about Bruno is, he tells you your future, he doesn't really do much more, he sees you getting explosive diarrhea in front of your crush, tells you "yo in 7 days you'll shit yourself in front of the girl you like" and it'll happen. They just make it look like it's Bruno causing it, but as the saying goes ambassador doesn't bear burdens

While nobody was bad. Say for the Grandma. At no time in the movie does anyone apologize to Mirabelle or Bruno. Just a "Welcome back" is all they give at the end. And in the movie nobody defends her actions even though they knew it was wrong or only acknowledging that a minor scolding was too hasrh.

I like how around the end of the song when everyone comes together, you can hear Isabela repeating to herself “I’m fine, I’m fine” to reassure herself about the proposal. It’s a nice bit of foreshadowing.
That's Dolores saying that I believe. She's saying that because the,"man of her dreams," is betrothed to another, aka Isabela. So she's saying she's fine. EDIT: I just checked their singalong version of We Don't Talk about Bruno and both Dolores and Isabela are saying it.
And at 3:08 "he told me that the man of my dreams would be promised and someday be mine". Which is layered, because it shows that Isabela thinks that the *life* of her dreams should be all about marrying "the man of her dreams". And it also has the meaning for Dolores that the man of her dreams is *promised* to another, but will someday be *hers.*
Tbh I honestly love how in Dolores’s part when she’s whispering, everything else is loud. Like when they they twirl their dresses and are tapping their feet. Lot of detail in there.
I just love how this song is filled with a handful of the later revealed/proven truths about the family like the fact that Bruno still lives in the house and how Dolores can hear him or Isabella's potential to grow. Very wonderful lyric-writing
Also all of the people's perceptions of him show him as this sinister, creepy and cruel person. When in reality he was actually really chill and just wanted to help. The best example is in Pepa's verse how she says he walked up with a "sinister grin" when he was only grinning because he was being a dorky older brother just teasing his sister about her being nervous so he made a joke. But because everyone was so afraid of him, they assumed the worst out of him. The movie had him set up to be this evil wizard terrorizing everyone, but they were all wrong Even the three villagers his prophecies seemed very vague and just observations. "One day your goldfish will die, and you'll get fat, and one day you're hair will fall out."
I love how while Pepa is singing about her Tragic Experience Felix looks like he's just enjoying telling an amazing story and getting to dance with his beautiful wife 😂 love him!
If you listen carefully at the end when Mirabel is connecting the vision pieces, you can hear Camilo’s part get higher then his part before (It has something like a climax) and it sounds very good

Something I never noticed until someone pointed it out to me: at the end when they’re all dancing around Mirabel singing their parts, Isabela’s part changes the second verse after singing about Bruno saying the life of her dreams would be hers and she starts saying “And I’m fine. I’m fine. Things are fine, fine, fine.” with a very clear look of worry and sadness on her face. It’s one of those moments when she breaks her “miss perfect” character and shows that she’s struggling to pretend she’s okay and is probably really hoping Bruno’s vision was right and everything will turn out okay for her. I love that little detail.
Edit this, since both Dolores and Isa were singing "I'm fine". Dolores was singing it due to her trying to except that Isa is going to marry the guy she likes.
Fun fact is if you watch the lyrics and in the end when multiple people are singing both dolores and Isabella at one point repeat "I'm not fine I'm not fine" in the mix of all their voices 😢
You can actually hear this effect throughout the whole song just about, it's just easier to hear it bc she sings much quieter than the rest of the family. It's done to emphasize certain beats throughout the song. :)

I love how happy Felix is while they're telling the wedding story. He knew exactly what he was getting into when he married Pepa. Rain probably doesn't bother him one bit.
Even then, Bruno didn’t mean any harm. He saw Pepa sweating, most likely due to the heat or pre-wedding jitters, and made a joke about rain because of it.
All the bad things that happened weren't Bruno's fault. Like a hurricane on Pepe's wedding day, Pepe wasn't the most emotionally stable Madrigal family member in the first place. Goldfish died, nature. Guy grows a gut, bad diet or genetics. Clergyman loses hair, genetics. Poor Bruno being the town scapegoat. But the song is definitely catchy.
2:50 reminds me of that quote from the movie, Amadeus, where Mozart says: " ...only opera can do this. In a play if more than one person speaks at the same time, it's just noise, no one can understand a word. But with opera, with music... with music you can have twenty individuals all talking at the same time, and it's not noise, it's a perfect harmony". Loving the polyphony in this song!!

This is the culmination of the last 30 years of Disney’s work. It really captures the idea of an animated musical, right down to the composition and the camera movement, very nice.
I love the attention to detail so much during Dolores’ part. The fact that her part is whispered so that Bruno can’t hear her and the sound of her footsteps adding to rhythm of the song. It’s just such genius 😩

I really put this movie in the category of the old ones! Great music and songs! They became kind of boring through the years but still love Disney!! Amazing movie and in my opinion underrated
I like how with Dolores’s part, You can clearly see Bruno’s shadow in the background, but every time Mirabelle turned in that direction Dolores was there to pull her attention back to her. Even with just the lyrics “I can always hear him sort of muttering and mumbling” was in present tense, meaning we know for sure she knows he’s there. It’s truly amazing how much detail and effort Disney put into this movie and I love every second of it

The part at 2:49 just feels like a whole live play where everyone's dancing and setting up the stage, but it's ACTUALLY part of the song, you know? It's cool to see something like this animated. And maybe I've SEEN other things like that before yeah, but something about Encanto is so pleasing to the eye that I appreciate it more here.

I love how at the end of the song, when everyone's singing around Mirabel, Isabella's just going "I'm fine I'm fine I'm fine" with an increasingly desperate look on her face. It really shows how pressured she is to be perfect and how panicked she is that she's about to get betrothed to a man she doesn't love. It mirrors nicely with Mirabel doing the same thing earlier in the film at the gift party. The difference with Mirabel though is that she then said "I'm not fine" and admitted it to herself rather than live in denial or put on a false facade like Isabella.

3:05 This whole mixing of different lyrics, sung by many characters at the same time is sooooo satisfying and so Lin-Manuel Miranda. That was the exact moment I KNEW it was him
I love the little details like: -Mirabel shy dance steps in Pepa's and Dolores' parts. -Bruno, in shadows, dancing in first floor while Dolores is singing. -Camilo metamorphosis have sound. -The rats playing along in Camilo's performance. They clearly are tamed rats. -Alma, Mariano and his (grand?)mother aren't simply walking to the house. They are doing a Wizard of oz style choreography. -Mirabel doesn't appear out of nowhere next to Luisa's door. She is in the background when the others set the table. -Luisa is down but she takes part anyway in the final scene. -The zoom out revealing the whole prophecy. And I adore the HEY!
Honestly... this movie is one of the best one's I've seen in years. Almost perfect pacing, none of the humor falls short, characters have depth, animation is incredible and music numbers and dialogue are outstanding. I've been waiting for the full music video to come out for this song because it's a great showcase for the movie as a whole. Even without the context of the prophecy and the glowing sheet thingie, you can pretty much infer what the base story of the movie is just from this number. Also, I really love how Mirabel copies the dance moves/dramatic motions of the characters around her while they're singing (leaning back when someone leans towards her, dancing with Dolores, the little shoulder shrugs when Pepa and Felix are singing, as well as Felix literally spinning her into the next scene!) it is SO GOOD.
I contest you on the “perfect pacing” part. It’s rather slow to start and then goes far too quickly at the end. We barely get any room to breathe and bask in the high after What More Can I Do before Abuela walks in on them and tanks the mood, and we barely get a denouement after the house returns. A common response to the credits appearing has been “oh, it’s over already!”, and several people I’ve seen online have said they wished they could have given us a few extra minutes to expand Camilo and Delores’s parts. The show-stopping numbers (Surface Pressure and Waiting On A Miracle) being front-loaded doesn’t help the uneven pacing distribution either. Everything else is amazing, though, which is why I think the pace bothers me so much.
Pacing?? You can miss 5 minutes and get lost. They are way too fast at times to where it'd kinda hard to keep up with story. But I do like this movie. The songs at times are way to fast and when they sing half in Spanish I feel like audience who don't understand Spanish get confused or lost. Even my mother who is Peruvian was kinda confused at the end of the film lol

Yes! I feel like here the writers hint at the ending too because she puts the prophecy back together, even though it is of the house breaking. This shows that she will be what brings healing in the end!
2:43 Everyone's talking about Camilo's verse but how is no one talking about how perfectly "Isabella, your boyfriend's here!" builds the musical tension even more? like just that last note in "here" changes the tone to set up the overlapping parts and makes them way more satisfying to hear
The genius is that they worked the sing-song way you'd say something like that if you were an annoying little brother / cousin INTO the key modulation. I've never seen anything like it!

What I love about Isabella's verse is that it basically tells you her story arc in the film. The "life of her dreams" is one where she doesn't get married to someone she doesn't love and she can have actual fun instead of being perfect all the time. This does become hers ("one day be mine") by the end of the film. Her powers do grow ("my powers will grow") because she escapes the pressure of being perfect and realises the full potential of her power. Such a clever song! Edit: I'm also OBSESSED with the animation at 1:06 where they're dancing!
Someone else pointed out that at the end of the song, you can also see her face being hopeless and you hear her say "I'm fine." on repeat as everyone dances around Mirabel. Amazing attention to detail and preview to what we'll see later in the movie! There's a reason why we keep re-watching it, there are so many small details we missed the first 100 times we watched it!
So true! While at the same time, making it seem like she (of course) had a perfect 'prophesy' while everyone else got 'bad news'. So incredible! The film is amazing but the songs really make it.

She probably got a similar kind of vague profecy like everybody else, but instead of believing in the "bad part" she sees the hope, and the good thing in Brunos message. I imagine that her profecy was something along the lines of: "You will feel trapped. And lonely. But, I promise the life of your dreams will someday be yours!"
and that Dolores’ prophecy does also become true. The man of her dreams would be “Out Of Reach”, and “Betrothed To Another” And sure enough, when Isabela basically said “Nah, I’d rather have fun!” to the guy she was to wed, we find out that Dolores’ man was out of reach, for he was betrothed to Isabela, and eventually got with Dolores instead.
I realized that Isabela's line "he told me that the life of my dreams would be promised and someday be mine" is actually Bruno's vision that someday Mirabela would help her to be true to her self and live the life she always wanted and not just a life that is expected of her by Abuela. I love the details in this song so much! So many foreshadowing and if only they didn't paint Bruno as some villain, I wonder what would've happened.

today i got in a arguement during a car ride which resulted in me waiting on a uber at a busy intersection after jumping out of car during said arguement. when the uber eventually came , after waiting with tears in my eyes and stress level at 10 , the uber has this song playing while i get in. and painfully unserious it is after the events of my day , it did calm me down. thanks encanto.

I like how around the end of the song when everyone comes together, you can hear Isabela repeating to herself “I’m fine, I’m fine” to reassure herself about the proposal. It’s a nice bit of foreshadowing.

Which is layered, because it shows that Isabela thinks that the *life* of her dreams should be all about marrying "the man of her dreams". And it also has the meaning for Dolores that the man of her dreams is *promised* to another, but will someday be *hers.*
Tbh I honestly love how in Dolores’s part when she’s whispering, everything else is loud. Like when they they twirl their dresses and are tapping their feet. Lot of detail in there.

Also all of the people's perceptions of him show him as this sinister, creepy and cruel person. When in reality he was actually really chill and just wanted to help. The best example is in Pepa's verse how she says he walked up with a "sinister grin" when he was only grinning because he was being a dorky older brother just teasing his sister about her being nervous so he made a joke. But because everyone was so afraid of him, they assumed the worst out of him. The movie had him set up to be this evil wizard terrorizing everyone, but they were all wrong

Something I never noticed until someone pointed it out to me: at the end when they’re all dancing around Mirabel singing their parts, Isabela’s part changes the second verse after singing about Bruno saying the life of her dreams would be hers and she starts saying “And I’m fine. I’m fine. Things are fine, fine, fine.” with a very clear look of worry and sadness on her face. It’s one of those moments when she breaks her “miss perfect” character and shows that she’s struggling to pretend she’s okay and is probably really hoping Bruno’s vision was right and everything will turn out okay for her. I love that little detail.

You can actually hear this effect throughout the whole song just about, it's just easier to hear it bc she sings much quieter than the rest of the family. It's done to emphasize certain beats throughout the song. :)

Even then, Bruno didn’t mean any harm. He saw Pepa sweating, most likely due to the heat or pre-wedding jitters, and made a joke about rain because of it.

I like how with Dolores’s part, You can clearly see Bruno’s shadow in the background,
but every time Mirabelle turned in that direction Dolores was there to pull her attention back to her. Even with just the lyrics “I can always hear him sort of muttering and mumbling” was in present tense, meaning we know for sure she knows he’s there.
It’s truly amazing how much detail and effort Disney put into this movie and I love every second of it

I love how at the end of the song, when everyone's singing around Mirabel, Isabella's just going "I'm fine I'm fine I'm fine" with an increasingly desperate look on her face. It really shows how pressured she is to be perfect and how panicked she is that she's about to get betrothed to a man she doesn't love. It mirrors nicely with Mirabel doing the same thing earlier in the film at the gift party. The difference with Mirabel though is that she then said "I'm not fine" and admitted it to herself rather than live in denial or put on a false facade like Isabella.
And then bc Luisa is already “not fine” she’s moping around and I’m sorry her faces are just so funny 🤣🤣

I love the little details like:
-Mirabel shy dance steps in Pepa's and Dolores' parts.
-Bruno, in shadows, dancing in first floor while Dolores is singing.
-Camilo metamorphosis have sound.
-The rats playing along in Camilo's performance. They clearly are tamed rats.
-Alma, Mariano and his (grand?)mother aren't simply walking to the house. They are doing a Wizard of oz style choreography.
-Mirabel doesn't appear out of nowhere next to Luisa's door. She is in the background when the others set the table.
-Luisa is down but she takes part anyway in the final scene.

Honestly... this movie is one of the best one's I've seen in years. Almost perfect pacing, none of the humor falls short, characters have depth, animation is incredible and music numbers and dialogue are outstanding. I've been waiting for the full music video to come out for this song because it's a great showcase for the movie as a whole. Even without the context of the prophecy and the glowing sheet thingie, you can pretty much infer what the base story of the movie is just from this number. Also, I really love how Mirabel copies the dance moves/dramatic motions of the characters around her while they're singing (leaning back when someone leans towards her, dancing with Dolores, the little shoulder shrugs when Pepa and Felix are singing, as well as Felix literally spinning her into the next scene!) it is SO GOOD.
I contest you on the “perfect pacing” part. It’s rather slow to start and then goes far too quickly at the end. We barely get any room to breathe and bask in the high after What More Can I Do before Abuela walks in on them and tanks the mood, and we barely get a denouement after the house returns. A common response to the credits appearing has been “oh, it’s over already!”, and several people I’ve seen online have said they wished they could have given us a few extra minutes to expand Camilo and Delores’s parts. The show-stopping numbers (Surface Pressure and Waiting On A Miracle) being front-loaded doesn’t help the uneven pacing distribution either.
Everything else is amazing, though, which is why I think the pace bothers me so much.

Pacing?? You can miss 5 minutes and get lost. They are way too fast at times to where it'd kinda hard to keep up with story. But I do like this movie. The songs at times are way to fast and when they sing half in Spanish I feel like audience who don't understand Spanish get confused or lost. Even my mother who is Peruvian was kinda confused at the end of the film lol

The final part, seeing Mirabel slowly put together the prophecy, and seeing herself cracking the house, really raises the tension of the movie. I love it.
Yes! I feel like here the writers hint at the ending too because she puts the prophecy back together, even though it is of the house breaking. This shows that she will be what brings healing in the end!
2:43 Everyone's talking about Camilo's verse but how is no one talking about how perfectly "Isabella, your boyfriend's here!" builds the musical tension even more? like just that last note in "here" changes the tone to set up the overlapping parts and makes them way more satisfying to hear

What I love about Isabella's verse is that it basically tells you her story arc in the film. The "life of her dreams" is one where she doesn't get married to someone she doesn't love and she can have actual fun instead of being perfect all the time. This does become hers ("one day be mine") by the end of the film. Her powers do grow ("my powers will grow") because she escapes the pressure of being perfect and realises the full potential of her power.
Such a clever song!
Edit: I'm also OBSESSED with the animation at 1:06 where they're dancing!
Someone else pointed out that at the end of the song, you can also see her face being hopeless and you hear her say "I'm fine." on repeat as everyone dances around Mirabel. Amazing attention to detail and preview to what we'll see later in the movie! There's a reason why we keep re-watching it, there are so many small details we missed the first 100 times we watched it!
So true! While at the same time, making it seem like she (of course) had a perfect 'prophesy' while everyone else got 'bad news'. So incredible! The film is amazing but the songs really make it.
@@Mmizzle22 I actually think that shows Isabella's true personality. She probably got a similar kind of vague profecy like everybody else, but instead of believing in the "bad part" she sees the hope, and the good thing in Brunos message.
I imagine that her profecy was something along the lines of: "You will feel trapped. And lonely. But, I promise the life of your dreams will someday be yours!"
and that Dolores’ prophecy does also become true.

And sure enough, when Isabela basically said “Nah, I’d rather have fun!” to the guy she was to wed, we find out that Dolores’ man was out of reach, for he was betrothed to Isabela, and eventually got with Dolores instead.

I love the details in this song so much! So many foreshadowing and if only they didn't paint Bruno as some villain, I wonder what would've happened.

Dude the sound design in this movie. Especially in this one part, is awesome
today i got in a arguement during a car ride which resulted in me waiting on a uber at a busy intersection after jumping out of car during said arguement. when the uber eventually came , after waiting with tears in my eyes and stress level at 10 , the uber has this song playing while i get in. and painfully unserious it is after the events of my day , it did calm me down. thanks encanto.
