I first heard this as a child in Disney’s Fantasia. Just beautiful with the animation they put together with the Firebird suite. Still love this magnificent piece by Stravinsky.
My dance director, who was like a second father to me, died a little over a week ago. This song was the last song he ever danced to, and it was the last dance he ever choreographed for us.
This song is dedicated to my sister Brianna who fought her bone cancer til the end. Yet, she loved classical music and she neve let anyone stand her way good or bad. She's a sweet sister I could ever have. Rest now and I'll see you again. :_-(
I am no orchestra expert but I fell in love with this masterpiece the first time i heard it in Little Einstein's Firebird episode. Especially the part in 8:40 up until the end.
My favorite part is from about 9:00 onwards. IDK why, but certain songs have parts that are so uplifting to me that they can cheer me up no matter what is going on. It amazing what music can do.
Me too!! I was 8 the first time I ever saw it, and it was the first time music had ever moved me emotionally. It was the first time I actually FELT music.
Fantasia 2000 made the Firebird for me. Just wonderful and beautiful. It's the reason why I adore the Spring Sprite and appreciate and adore classical music.
I'm among those below who are brought to tears by this piece of music. The ending is so emotional and triumphant. Thank you Stravinsky !!! Oddly, I discovered it as a kid through the progressive rock band YES who used it as the introduction music for their shows in the early 70s. They would flood the arenas with natural bird sounds for a long period and then through that background the Firebird would emerge and explode directly into their set ... a brilliant beginning. Later I studied Stravinsky's music more closely while at Berklee and realized what a true genius he was. This performance was so beautiful ! BRAVO !!
MTT was the perfect person to conduct Stravinsky considering he met Stravinsky, played for him, and also debuted many of his late works under the direction of Stravinsky himself. A living legend!
one of the most gifted of the younger generation of composers. This work showed how fully he had assimilated the flamboyant Romanticism and orchestral palette of his master gr 10 mojule!!!
2:45 is my favorite of the entire firebird suite. The sudden dropout of the fortissimo and into a quiet pizzicato section complimented by oboes and horns is truly genius. I love the way it evolves from the pizzicato to a loud altered version of the melody with horns at the forefront, which then transitions to a major version of the motif used in the pizzicato section earlier. AHHH I LOVE IT
Phantom Regiment is the reason I love classical music as much as I do. Thank god for DCI and the amazing work by those amazing performers for introducing to so many different genres of music
I can listen to the outro of this piece (arguably the 8:40 mark) and be in awe of the splendor and grandeur that is created from these well crafted musicians. I dont know how many times I've indulged and it's welled tears into my eyes. Such a proper way to begin a Saturday morning in the midst of this Coronavirus pandemic, along with a cup of coffee.
Many years after playing this in concert I found myself humming the finale. I played it on the piano to roughly compose the notes, Googled them and was instantly sent back in time when watching this video. It is a very powerful piece, something I will always remember I have played.
Energía instantánea de inspiración musical, dibujando con sus notas una epopeya sonora de exaltación trascendente. Una composición genial e interpretación magistral.
Every Single Time I hear this song it's just goosebumps all over. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!!!!!! This song is the reason I listen to classical music but I have yet to find a song that moves me like this one does. It is a masterpiece.
I was waiting the entire opening ceremony to hear this song! They had Stravinsky's Rite of Spring throughout but I was waiting for this. It's my all-time favorite Russian piece! Then I heard it coming in the background during the torch-bearers and I started jumping up and down! When they actually lit it I was ecstatic. :D Amazing piece.
This is my favorite orchestral piece of all time. I actually heard this song for the first time on a Little Einsteins episode as a kid. It has stuck with me ever since, I will never forget this beautiful song.
Michael Tilson Thomas (MTT as he's commonly referred to) is the conductor. He actually played a piano reduction version of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring for Stravinsky himself when he was much younger, around 20 years of age. He's a known interpreter of Stravinsky's music. I've seen him conduct numerous times here in Chicago...does a wonderful job!
my freshman year at lamar university in SE Texas we played this and killed it. i'll never forget how good it felt as a freshman music major it was my first serious piece, even if I only sat as principal tuba
Does that mean you like it? Why not say, "ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!", like our Prez would say? Big, empty, and meaningless words (just like Trump himself)...
Hats off to the E-flat clarinet girl! The E-flat clarinet just adds so much spicccy nastiness to the Infernal Dance and she killed it! Also kudos to MTT for not doing the 1919 suite which lamentably omits the E-flat clarinet.
This is the source of that famous 1980s Fairlight Orchestra Hit sound that ended up being sampled and used in pretty much every pop song from mid 80's onwards. I was a teenager when I first heard that sample and it took me until I became 51 until I heard the original symphony. I'm certainly not disappointed. This is great.
You don't. The music is all digital & the "players" are all unemployed actors. The need for "real people" has come and gone. *DON'T BELIEVE ME?" Then watch this Twilight Zone episode, "The Obsolete Man" (telecast June 2nd, 1961), starring the immortal Burgess Meredith, which predicted **WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW** : www.dailymotion.com/video/x6hwlrt
Sorry to burst your bubble but the YSO is only a thing that Michael Tilson Thomas (the conductor) did in 2009 and 2011. It was called the KRplus Symphony Orchestra because Tilson Thomas brought musicians from all over the world together by having them audition by recording themselves and uploading it to KRplus
Just remembered this was background music for an embryology animation I saw somewhere in the last six months, now I know why the video felt extra dramatic
That’s so funny, I was just telling my partner about the Yes concert and this playing beforehand. Was it Ally Pally bowl? I just remember being 16 and lying to my mum about where I was going
I first heard this as a child in Disney’s Fantasia. Just beautiful with the animation they put together with the Firebird suite. Still love this magnificent piece by Stravinsky.
same with me! The green earth lady and the volcano! It was such a beautiful piece of animation

the triangle player was the true star. so unappreciated.
+Jimm Russell Of course, it's not music without a triangle!
+Jimm Russell aux percussion usually is really important
fangirl about aux all you want i'm just glad stravinsky wrote in a xylo
Ahaha I know right. When my orchestra played Firebird, I received the honour to play triangle, and its such a key role, it's truly unappreciated.

Favorite childhood show!!! What a fantastic way to introduce kids to old orchestral composers and different artists.
That episode used that piece perfectly!

My favorite part is from about 9:00 onwards. IDK why, but certain songs have parts that are so uplifting to me that they can cheer me up no matter what is going on. It amazing what music can do.
It’s called the Firebird Suite, you can get it on Spotify
It is amazing
I'm watching this 5 years after you and I feel exacly the same... the part at 9:00 (begening of the final ?) make me feel so much things !
8:30 and onwards for me, but yes, music is a gift from the gods....
It’s so beautiful! It gives me goosebumps and I just sit in a cloud of bliss and I love it.
It makes me think of space and hope for the future
Oh god this ending makes me cry every time. The beauty just makes me feel so incredible. This is my favorite orchestral piece by far.
Bach, Mozart & Beethoven can go jump off the same cliff --- is that it?
Mine too, it's got everything I love in a musical piece. Raw power, emotion, beauty, it's just perfect!
The ending is sublime. What a classic.
This piece has such magical tone, and melody that makes you imagine actual firebird in the sky, majestic.
Jesus Christ! Who are you? What have you sacrificed?

That E-flat clarinet is killing it!
I always cry at the end. right around 10:00 is when I start getting choked up. Because of Fantasia 2000. It's just so epic!!!
I do the same thing! The beauty of that finale, it just makes me cry!

This may be the best production of this track that I have ever seen.
Stravinsky conducting Firebird is far superior, as may readily be seen:

This is my first time listening to the firebird loving it so far. :D
It's a lengthy ballet, this is just a small fragment. This is the last couple of scenes probably from the concert suite Stravinsky developed later.
You should watch Fantasia 2000's Firebird Suite :) it's an animation of a fragment of the ballet and it's really beautiful
Thanks

Lorrayya Williams Yeah, there's a fantastic recording of the full suite by The Vienna Philharmonic with Valery Gergiev on KRplus. I'd recommend it.
