Light & Fast 105mm Artillery in Action • Intense Live Fire Exercises [Compilation]

- Video compilation of artillerymen during conducting live fire training exercises with the GIAT LG1, M102 and M119A3 105mm howitzers.
With a well-trained crew, a 105 mm-Howitzer can launch around ten shells per minute, in a distance of up to 15 kilometers.
Lightweight artillery can be easily airlifted by helicopter, or dropped by parachute, it is easier to change azimuth of fire and does not need a recoil pit.

A shot every 3 seconds.
That’s pretty intense.
For sure. That’s pretty crazy 🤪
Imagine that on WoT
@@erojerisiz1571 Haha! That would be pretty cool.
I went to gun school at fort sill Oklahoma. In the first few days there we saw a demonstration of the capabilities of a good gun crew. They fired the first shot almost straight up, ran the barrel down to a direct shot at a circle of rocks on the side of a hill. One of them had a stopwatch and at the appropriate time said fire. Both rounds hit inside the circle at exactly the same time.
I was fairly impressed
Not really in WW2 the Dreaded 88 could get off in the high 20 rounds per minute. A few elite gunners got it even higher. The Dreaded 88 is a multi role piece of artillery and the 105's of today are not. The weights of both ammo are similar BUT I like the 105mm. But more importantly is ammo technology being used now is getting so much better in the 2020's.
Watching a well coordinated crew is a thing of beauty.

@@LoiNguyen-mg2wp why are you saying 80?
We trained on M2 howitzers in 1970 whilst doing 2 years National Service. They packed quite a punch.ps thanks for sharing. We also had L5 mountain gun.

Belgium has an Army?
We still used the old M-101 in Alaska until 1995 before switching over to the M-119, that 12 series gunners sight wasn't no joke.
Philippine Army used 105’s in close direct fire in Battle of Marawi to decimate ISIS strong points.

ARTILLERY KING OF BATTLE! A well trained gun crew is a thing of beauty! Well done from a MARINE gunner Fox battery gun 3 2/12 3rd Division USMC
I was a gun mechanic in the Marines. I had a 05 and a 55 battery. I got to learn everybody’s job. It was a blast!!!
Amazing teamwork! Much love from MN, USA 🇺🇸
I really enjoy this channel, keep 'em coming.
On the first one love how the slowest part is waiting for the casing to drop out.
IT'S VERY GOOD JOB! GOOD VIDEO! THANK YOU!
good job guys, with love from moscow
Good job, that is an unpleacent load to get on the head.
M101A1s, not M102s - PH and USMC joint training, middle segment.
Amazing cinematography
I love the 105!
Its nice to see the philippine and us marines fire artillery.
Fire for effect!
Thanks for the memories H3/12
I would like to own a working one in my backyard. I may need it one day.

'THE GUNS, THANK GOD FOR THE GUNS ' (quoted from a famous WW1 painting)
As a young man in the late 60s early 70s I trained on these 105mm Howitzers. I loved every minute of it.
Guns do give a sense of safety compared to swords, and before World War I the worst job that probably would’ve become main stream since they were stalemated even with guns, we’re ottoman tunnel diggers during the 17th century (1600s) siege of Vienna.
That might as well be considered automatic
Wow!that'scool.
0811 Was my mos in the Marines Cannoner on the 105mm!!!-David.
Patricia Napier I was a 0331 M-60 E3 86 -90 and I remember your saying real well. When the Grunts can’t deal we send in steel party with Arty Semper Fi Bro
Mine was 0317 87 - 90, and we were trained to always have you folks on call, so we appreciate you..
I love artillery guns. They are so useful in combat and will probably take out your problem in front of you.
I know what you mean, but these are not artillery guns. Artillery guns are like German 88mm, with low angle only trajectory. These are howitzers.
Thanks for the information. Didn’t know Artillery and howitzers were different.
Old but reliable
I consider this firing as the fastest artillery firing record in the world
I wouldn't want to be at the other end, receiving a barrage of artillery fires!
Would it be possible to make a "105mm Gatling Artillery"?

At around 7:00, what's the function of the guys in civilian clothing standing one by each howitzer??
Wish they had 30 of these on Iwo and the Canal.
Damn...thats semi-automatic 👏👏👍
My uncle was in the artillery in Vietnam in a 105 crew. He really didn’t talk about the war, but he did tell me he had to have hearing aids by the time he was 30.
Imagine playing 1812 with these babies

lol so fast naver seen..this gun looks like simple custemizing
Which one is the "crowd control" round?🙂
since marines do by from where they acquisition all that things???
Why does the guy delivering a shell obtain what looks like two bags connected by a string? What is that? More propellant? Is it typical to reload munitions on site with a 105?
the backbone of american army artillery. saved thousands of lives in many wars!

Same for the Marines, on call arty was always our best friend..

Wow that's a lot of wobble on those trunions. I guess you have to wait for the wobble to cease before firing.
Holy shit that's fast. Roughly how many times can you fire a weapon like this before you need to perform maintenance on it?
Depends on what maintenance you speak of.
There are some things that need to be done every 50 rounds, 100 rounds etc.
some checks have to be done every 500 rounds. Generally the piece is given over to civilian contractors for major maintenance.
All they can do is user maintenance.
Grease, oil, clean etc.
why the casing do not drop at the end of recoil??? this way u increase the rate of fire
like they did with flak 88
because it will require additional components and parts increasing the overall weight of the gun, adversely affecting the gun's deployability...
literally no
It does have enough benefit to offset the increase to mechanism complexity
Company of Heroes artilleryman: "105 BATTERY HERE!"
Some of the video clips comes from one of balikatan exercise of ph us army using 105mm howitzer
They've been using the M102 since WW2, it's tried and true.
there is nothing wrong with a simple 105mm shell that goes boom and any ape with 2 hands can oprate it
M102 is Vietnam era, not WW2. The advantage of the gun is it could shoot a full circle without needing to be relaid. In fact I couldn't see any M102s in this video. This video shows training exercises, which can be far different from reality. I was in Vietnam on the M102. A better challenge would be for them to be firing with little sleep, in the middle of a moonless night, in a down pour with lightning all about up in the mountains in a position which is just a big mud hole. Using stakes with a green light on one and a red light on the other for the azimuth. Using a field phone for communication from the FDC. Then relaying that information to your crew. Which at times can be different numbers for each round fired and sometimes each gun can be given a different set of numbers. All this must be done on the QT.

Why do they have 2 guys bringing the shell to the loader from the stack. Couldn't they just put the stack next to the loader?

I hope those are hand loads
@7:58 Why the charge bags over the shoulder?
i wish one day my dream coming true💥🔥🔥
Hamsik Rasheedi Don’t give up your dreams. As a former artillery men in the US Army I can tell you it fun, rewarding and exciting at times. But it can also be boring and a lot of hard work if you’re not ready for it. I’ve had the opportunity to fire the M-102, M-119 A2 A3, M777 A3 and the M-198. But the gun I fired during my time was the M-119 A3. Good luck and have fun.

Is this a auto cannon or a howitser
i miss it with ever fiber of my being, i wish i wasnt broken

whats the type?m2a1 or m2a2?

Is 105mm Artillery made in USA?
Can I ask why the shells are stored so far away?
Safety. If something catastrophic goes wrong with a gun, (explodes/misfires) you don't end up with the entire battery's ammo detonating.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sympathetic_detonation#Definition
would not want to get my hand caught in there. you actually make up the rounds on the spot.
What is the job of the guys with the red shirts for??
Civilian contract or perhaps Title 5 civil service trainers. I presume wearing red to ID them as that or as safety personnel. This was either at Ft Sill as part of a training course or a Mobile Training Team for the M119A3 digital fire control upgrade new equipment training.
@@anthonykaiser974 many thanks indeed
My brother Butch was on 105s in Vietnam 1968-69
Now I know what caused those potholes on our road....
Deceptively small shell blasts.
me gustaría que todas las máquinas de artillería utilice el minimo posible de la mano de obras, ojalá las maquinas reemplace a los soldados al 80 o 90 x ciento
That looks like more fun than what I do for a living. 😢
yeah but you suffer ear.problems in a long run
Oh i thought those shells came assembled, I didn't realize they had to be assembled in the field.
Its been years since i was in the artillery but i believe the ammunition is called semi fixed. as opposed to fixed ammo in a tank or recoiless rifle.
Changing the number of powder bags helps to control the range.
Howitzers use multiple bag charge systems to adjust for range zones. NATO 105mm uses a standard 7 zone system that ranges out to 11,500 meters plus a single bag Charge 8 to 14,5 km and a Rocket Assisted Projectile that will reach out 19km.
Artillery is the god of war
Laying down the hate!!
I want one 😫
How many rounds till that barrel is no good?
I don't know what current barrels on 105s are rated for, but when I was in Vietnam a M102 barrel was rated for 5,000 rounds.
