I’m an Angels fan, but Shohei should move to a better team. As long as he’s on this team, 6 innings without a run and 10 strikeouts won’t make him a winning pitcher. I don’t want to see any more teams ruin great players.

Speaking as a Mets fan, I know they had a troubling history of not scoring runs for deGrom, so Ohtani coming to play for us may not be the cure for what ails his win-loss record--but, on the flipside--he might see the playoffs for the 1st time....

I stopped paying attention to MLB after the 1994 strike season, but I'll watch Ohtanisan (on KRplus) for as long as he's around. So damn much fun!
Compare this to two years ago when he made his full return to pitching. You can see he has entered a stage of refinement as a pitcher.
His velocity is better this year as well. Last year, he had hard time reaching 100mph.
He is the one and only pitcher who has to hit a home run himself to win.
According to Sarah Langs, Shohei’s outing was the 26th since at least 1901 with 10+ strikeouts and no runs allowed on Opening Day. But it’s the first time that pitcher’s team lost the game.

Ironically the final game last year was against the A's and Shohei was on the mond, pitched great 6 innnings with just 1 run, but just like this game the bullpen lost the lead and a win for Shohei

Ohtani held 6 innings soreless and 1 hit ＋walk. A pitcher being intentionally walked is just incredible. Halos are also incredible in a different way.
He shouldnt have even been intentionally walked anyway. I watched the game at the stadium and he struck out twice despite his hit. He wasnt that hot at the plate
@@zacknewton1064 Ohtani is the most dangerous when someone is on base especially when in scoring position. He's the best at it after all for the past 20+ years iirc. So that intentional walk was a good decision.

After i watched the historical moment in wbc, I started to think that poor Angels backup for him might be also the script of baseball god. If he went to NYC or other big club, he could be the champion of world series easily, but meanwhile this frustrating situation can be also motivator for him to be even better player.
Ohtani’s power pitch was such a gem. I was overwhelmed a bit by that 101 fastball.
Ohtani was dominating pitching in this game, but this was the same thing last year from the Angels, the team either can't score for him or blows the lead, Shohei could've won 20 games last season
100% sad. Reminds me of Pedro Martinez on the 90's Red Sox team pitching lights out but still losing games 1-0 lol

Their Bullpen got a nickname and was called the BlowPen. That still has not changed and their playoff hopes will most likely stay the same. This might be a good thing as the owner will be forced to trade Shohei before the trade deadline. Shohei doesn't like to be on a losing team and he was very clear about it.

tireless performance, overwhelming presence
Shohei was able to strike out on all of his sliders, splits and fastballs. The pitch was dynamic, overcoming the pitch clock despite the cold weather in his first outing. The pitch geared up with runners in scoring position was also great.
And…. Tepera and Loup casually came out from the bullpen and blew the game 😂😂 wow…
they only gave up 2 runs which is god-like for their standards. it was the angels offense that lost the game

I agree, Cole 6 inn 0 runs 11 Ks who broke a opening day record, and Shohei 6 inn 0 runs 10 Ks almost had the same dominating pitching performance, the difference the bullpen 😢

I don’t even watch baseball, but there’s something special with this talented pitcher. Only very few athletes have this and we’re witnessing greatness once more, just like the legends Kobe, Brady, Gretzky, Jordan, and Tiger from the past. I think the Angels need to crack open the vault, because the Angels fan base just got bigger, not only in LA and OC, but in the Country of Japan.

Whenever i watch a video about the great performance from Shohei, i am afraid to watch the comment section because most of the time people will say Angels lost the game eventually. 😅
The best baseball player should go to the best team. In the beginning, it was wise to avoid strong teams because he had to convince people to let he play two-way, but that is no longer necessary. Because he has a track record of success. He just wants to WIN, not money.

I mean I love Ohtani and I'm gonna be super biased here as an A's fan. This L is on him, he pitched an absolute gem but went 1/3. If he really was good enough he'd be able to score a run on an A's pitching staff that will be near the bottom of the league by the end of the season.
what Angels are lacking would be a good reliever/closer
but yeah they never fail to disappoint us. the amount of patience ohtani has is still the best.

Err, its Ohtani and his agent fault by choosing the Angels. Back in late 2017, when he declare he wants to jump to the Majors, his agent told the media he wants to play for a teams that
1. Can gave him a chance to pitch and bat everyday, so no NL teams.
2. No other japanese player in that teams, so no yankees since Tanaka still in the NY at that time.
3. Prefer west coast teams that can contend for the ring right away. Since the Mariners are still bad in 2017-2018, so the angels is his only go to option, because they still have prime Mike Trout

A great pitching performance by Shohei, after a somewhat loose first inning. But as happens too often with the Angels, he got only one run in support and came away with a ND after the blowpen failed to hold a slim lead.
