Lyrics:
I walked through the door with you
The air was cold
But somethin bout it felt like home somehow
And I left my scarf there at your sisterโs house
And youโve still got it in your drawer even now
Oh your sweet disposition, and my wide eyed gaze
Weโre singing in the car getting lost upstate
Autumn leaves falling down like pieces into place
And I can picture it after all these days
And I know itโs long gone and that magicโs not here no more
And I might be ok but Iโm not fine at allโฆ
Cause there we are again on that
Little town street
You almost ran the red
Cause you were looking over at me
Wind in my hair, I was there
I remember it all too well
Photo album on the counter
Your cheeks were turning red
You used to be a little kid with glasses
in a twin-sized bed
And your motherโs telling stories bout you on
the tee ball team
You taught me bout your past
Thinkin your future was me
And you were tossing me the car keys
โF*** the patriarchyโ keychain on the ground
We were always skipping town
And I was thinking on the drive down
Any time now, heโs gonna say itโs love
You never called it what it was
til we were dead and gone and buried
Check the pulse and come back
Swearing itโs the same, after 3 months in the grave
And then you wondered where it went to
As I reached for you but
All I felt was shame
And you held my lifeless frame
And I know itโs long gone and
There was nothing else I could do
And I forget about you long enough
To forget why I needed toโฆ
Cause there we are again in the middle of the night
Weโre dancin round the kitchen in the
refrigerator light
Down the stairs, I was there
I remember it all too wellโฆ
And there we are again
When nobody had to know
You kept me like a secret
But I kept you like an oath
Sacred prayer and weโd swear
to remember it all too well
Well maybe we got lost in translation
Maybe I asked for too much
But maybe this thing was a masterpiece
Til you tore it all up
Running scared, I was there
I remember it all too well
And you call me up again
Just to break me like a promise
So casually cruel in the name of being honest
Iโm a crumpled up piece of paper lying here
Cause I remember it all, all, all
They say allโs well that ends well
But Iโm in a new hell every time
You double-cross my mind
You said if we had been closer in age
Maybe it would have been fine
And that made me want to die.
The idea you had of me
Who was she?
A never-needy, ever lovely jewel
Whose shine reflects on you
Not weeping in a party bathroom
Some actress asking me what happened
You.
Thatโs what happened: You.
You, who charmed my dad with self-effacing jokes
Sipping coffee like you were on a late night show
But then he watched me watch the front door
all night, willing you to come
And he said, โitโs supposed to be funโฆ
Turning 21โ
Time wonโt fly
Itโs like Iโm paralyzed by it
Iโd like to be my old self again
But Iโm still trying to find it
After plaid shirt days
And nights when you made me your own
Now you mail back my things
And I walk home alone
But you keep my old scarf
From that very first week
Cause it reminds you of innocence, and it smells like me
You canโt get rid of it
Cause you remember it all too well
Cause there we are again when
I loved you so
Back before you lost the one real thing
Youโve ever known
It was rare, I was there
I remember it all too well
Wind in my hair, you were there
You remember it all
Down the stairs, you were there
You remember it all
It was rare, I was there
I remember it all too well
And I was never good at telling jokes
But the punchline goes:
โIโll get older, but your lovers stay my ageโ
From when your Brooklyn broke my skin and bones
Iโm a soldier whoโs returning half her weight
And did the twin flame bruise paint you blue?
Just between us, did the love affair maim you too?
Cause in this cityโs barren cold
I still remember the first fall of snow
And how it glistened as it fell
I remember it all too well
Just between us did the love affair maim you
All too well
Just between us, do you remember it
All too well
Just between us, I remember it all too well
Wind in my hair
I was there, I was there
Down the stairs, I was there
I was there
Sacred prayer
I was there, I was there
It was rare, you remember it
All too well

Me too
I need a 24 hour version.
The raw song was 24 mins
I need a 1 year version
I'm a 44 year old man and my favorite music is 90s alternative and metal, and I have never been ashamed to love Taylor and listen to her albums over and over. She is so much more than a pop star, she is a timeless artist who has much more in common with the folksy rock of the 60s than any pop singers. She reminds me of Bob Dylan.
She is as important for this generation as Dylan was to my generation. A genius songwriter.
Sheโs a storyteller too. Songs are better when they tell a story.
She is operating on a much higher level than your average pop star, that is for sure. But she is no Dylan. And she shouldn't be. She has a different audience, a different approach, and lives in different times. If Dylan were a 25 year old singer-songwriter now, he would never become popular. He would be too complicated, to elitist and too smart for our age. It is sad, but true - people don't want Nobel Prize worthy lyrics in a song anymore. They want something simple, quick, slick - something that could be listened to while taking a bath or crunching fruits in a blender. Something that will get a lot of retweets and likes on X and KRplus. Cudos to Taylor Swift for rising above that insufferable mundanity. Reaching Dylan's heights would be too much for this age - she needs to stay exactly where she is.
Well Said & totally agree, 56 year old male here.
Yess!!! Sheโs a poet. And her works are masterpieces.. the music is just the way to get it out there
"so casually cruel in the name of being honest" - this line absolutely guts me. It's a perfect descriptor of the way my spouse of many years discarded me for someone else, pretending that he'd finally 'found his truth.' He was running scared...I was there...I remember it all too well

yess so true
Not ONLY did she remember the first fall of snow, but how it glistened as it fell.
That's deep
The "'cause in this city's barren cold, I still remember the first fall of snow" part makes me have goosebumps and wanna cry
Super nice double meanings. The 'city's barren cold' have could meant the relationship, and how coldly he ended it, and the 'first fall of snow' (white signifying innocence) meaning how she lost her virginity to him. Or she is the (innocent) snow that fell, and how she glistened as she fell from his love and affection. The glistening snow concept mirrors the other lyric about how she was just 'an ever-lovely jewel, whose shine reflects on you' to him.

When the original Red album came out over a decade ago, I was going through a painful breakup, and it really spoke to me and got me through. That ex and I eventually got back together, and got married. After 7 and a half years of marriage, and his countless affairs and betrayals, we just got divorced in September. I knew I would never be healed of this pain; but I thought I was doing fine and holding it together. But within minutes of listening to this song, it pulled out the darkest of grief and heartbreak from deep within me, in such an unexpected way. I dropped to my knees and sobbed with my whole body and soul. It just flowed out of me like the waters finally breaking over a dam. This song has allowed me to truly and fully mourn and grieve my loss. I keep listening to it, and I keep letting that grief out, and releasing that pain from my soul. Taylor helped me through that breakup all those years ago, and sheโs helping me through the ultimate breakup now. Sheโs helping us all to process, grieve, and heal. Itโs therapy. But, most of all, this song is a monumental gift to humanity. And she is a treasure beyond words. Thank you, Taylor. Thank you. Thank you.

I am just discovering TS and I am truly blown away. 68 years old and listening to her makes me feel the emotions of a much younger man. I grew up in the generation of Don McClean "American Pie". A really long song and famous for its notoriety and how it dominated the airwaves for one particular summer of days gone by.
And her is this amazing 1o minute composition filled with emotions, longing, young love (of someone much older) disbelief, confusion, shattered, broken and it is longer than American Pie. Rolling Stones made mention of this and how Taylor Swift is a very serious and accomplished artist, who owns the rights to her own music. Bravo Taylor Swift. Not embarrassed to say I have listened to it many times, since I saw the recent Rolling Story about All Too Well!

YOU lost ME.โ Itโs now about growth and realizing you ALWAYS deserved better.
Literally the second I heard that line I said โthat cut deepโ!
๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ soooo truuueeeee
โค๏ธโค๏ธ
That line floored me. This has been one of my favorite songs for years, and she somehow took it to another level.
โMaybe it was a masterpiece until you tore it all up, running scared. I was there. I remember it all too wellโ. This one chokes me up.
Even more than the song, I love how she's smiling while recording it.
All Too Well is yours now, but it has always been ours. Thank you, Taylor.

long life to the patriarchy
My favorite line is โ I forget about u long enough to forget why I needed to.โ
That is pure genius โฃ๏ธ
It's shocking my eyes still produce tears after crying so much to this. Still can't believe RED didn't get a grammy.
I agree. I love Red, and All Too Well will forever be my favorite tswift song. But I think because the album was sort of all over the place in terms of genre was maybe the reason? Not knocking it for that, because personally I loved it and it showed her transitioning into a new genre at the time and growth as an artist. Just saying that was maybe the reason that the industry didn't want to at the time, unfortunately.
This isnโt just a song. Itโs a masterpiece you get to experience.
We won't tear it all up ๐ญ
Masterpiece? Girl.....must be a gymnast with all that stretching youโre doing
This is a masterpiece and encompasses her brilliance as a storyteller and evokes so many different emotions. She lets us feel what she felt and feels when he double crosses her mind.
This is the song that makes a person remember all the things they thought they had forgotten.... There is some kind of magic in it. A sad magic. But magic.
SHE FINISHED IT WITH HER VOCALS AND LYRICS. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY DID IT AGAIN! ILY TAYLOR
@Jack Wrath I feel like you're the most boring person on earth ๐
@Jack Wrath If we do the math you're proof is 32500 times more worthless than this ๐
10 minutes sounds like such a long time for a song, I expected to get bored partway through - because I have the attention span of a chicken nugget. I didn't. She exceeded every expectation, wove words into the most beautiful tapestry of storytelling. The nods to mirrorball, the moment I knew, lover, and so much more. This is more than a song; it's a piece of art, it's a bleeding hearts cry, and it's 10 minutes that will make history.
when listening to this, it didn't felt like 10 minutes at all! taylor is so talented
She almost didnโt record the 10 minute of all too well. She confirmed it in one of her interviews
you described it perfectly ๐ฅบ
When she said "you kept me like a secret but I kept you like an oath" I felt that to my core
"Time won't fly It's like i'm paralyzed by it, Like to be my old self again but i'm still trying to find it." ๐ I feel that.
"So casually cruel in the name of being honest" has always struck me as such a beautifully and tragically accurate statement. I adore that lyric. It applies to so many things - it's universal.
I broke up with a girl in my 20โs because she was very religious and I wasnโt at all. I couldnโt see a future and kids together. I remember coming to that conclusion and breaking it off with her (after several years together) just so casually and matter of fact. I was trying to be honest but it came off casual and cruel.
@@jamesfleming1155 the unfortunate truth is that honesty can be causal cruelty. I think it comes down to your approach. Empathy is the key, but if you no longer love someone and you think you're better off apart is it worth pretending to be broken hearted about it? People usually grieve the relationship in the process of deciding to end it. So by the time they ARE ending it, they've already accepted it.
And the line directly before this one..."And you call me up again just to break me like a promise" is ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
anyone who has been in an abusive relationship would understand this line. so deep.
certainly, itโs one of her best lyrics IMO. Also hi :) I sang โAll Too Wellโ, would you mind taking a listen? Iโd love to have ur feedback (if possible)!
The line "I forget about you long enough, to forget why I needed to" will still be the saddest and most ironic line for me.
You may try forget someone you've loved, but the truth is you don't really forget him/her. You are just forgetting the idea and feelings you have to that someone. Thus, you'll remember it all. But because of how time and life transcends, those feelings will change and you'll realize that things just pass. But you don't have to let your pain eat you all up though. Because that pain can be the power that will enable you to create something wonderful just like this song.
One thing's for certain. Taylor Swift, our QUEEN articulately portrays her emotions and thoughts in this song and in the end, it's the most precious thing to have witnessed.

i listen to this song on loop while iโm on the bus on the way back home EVERYDAY and i donโt get tired of it. The ending destroys me everytime and โiโm a soldier whoโs returning half her weightโ
ih gua juga di transjakarta wkwk
No, because how can she not shed a single tear while recording/singing this when I've had countless of tear drops already when I'm just a listener.
Because sheโs over Jake and happy with her new boo ๐ they say that when you can talk about something traumatic without crying, youโve finally moved on from it.
She is a soldier.
Cause this song dont hurt her anymore
I agree that she is over Jake and happy now, but i think at 7:20 she got really emotional
Because she is over him and has a very happy and loving relationship with Joe for 5 years now i believe โค๏ธ
the old version was full of pain but this version shows that Taylor is so strong
where i could found the old version
@@zalfa7453 the old version is the one from red 2012, not taylor's version. it's a 5 minutes song. u can look up for it anywhere
This song doesn't apply to my relationship life anymore but more so the intensity of my career change from being a manager in the retail industry for years to working with animals in the veterinary industry. Lots of years, tears, emotions and experiences I've had but I know it's time to move on. This song confirms it thanks Taylor!
Not a Swiftie but pleasantly exploring it all. I'm halfway through and in TEARS
She makes me relive memories Iโve never actually lived
Plot twist weโre reliving our past lifeโs memories ๐ญ
@@madisonmathis7757 I was an ancient Taylor Swift????? lol
So true!! I was explaining to someone why I love the song so much, โit reminds us all of being 21 and breaking up with Jake Gyllenhaalโ
WE are reliving Taylor's memories
I love this statement ... lmao I feel the same way too.....lol :) Swifties
i still remember when she said thereโs a 10 min version everyone was trying soo hard to find it, donโt think anyone wouldโve THOUGHT she would release this. what a dream come true ๐ญ
i was so late hearing taylorโs version to and i was freaking out when i found out
@Jack Wrath if it's boring then why are you here?
I cry about "He watched me watch the front door all night, willing you to come and he said >it's supposed to be fun, turning 21
We are fortunate to be alive in the "ERA" of Taylor Swift.....a true creative genius.
She took a 3 month relationship 10 years ago and gave it the same vibe as a 10 year relationship ending in divorce and I respect that. Iโm going through a divorce and I related to a lot in the song.
I think she wrote this after they split and just released her journal
@@tiffanyliles2949 yeah from the vault songs are songs she wrote from that album era but never released
Yeah- I worded that poorly haha
Sometimes u can feel in 3 months what u haven't felt in 10 years especially when u are as young as she was! Time is often just a number!
@@narimeneissaad8884 oh agreed, but thereโs a talent in putting it so well into song
I honestly love this transition. She went from being the young, heartbroken girl who cried anytime she performed this live to now being the empowered woman smiling in the recording booth because she FINALLY reclaimed a part of her life that definitely shaped her who she is as a person now. I hope this wonderful blond woman knows how much I love her and that Iโve been with her since I was channel surfing because I couldnโt find the remote and paused when I saw her sitting on a porch in a blue dress singing about riding shotgun. Feels incredible knowing that weโve grown together and she sang me through every heartbreak, sang me into finding true love, and now knowing weโve both found peace and have healed together. Thereโs nothing like it.
I see it too, she's finally happy now, and at peace with her past, I hope you too ๐โคโค
this comment is wholesome don't ever delete it
This was a beautiful comment and I couldnโt agree more. Iโm 32, born the same year as Taylor. And I remember being gifted her first album as a teenager even though I didnโt even like country music that much but she resonated so much with me and her music. Weโve grown, weโve grown up, weโve been broken, weโve healed, now we have grown into ourselves and can speak of the past with strength. Itโs been a beautiful journey.
Yes, exactly! I'm so proud of her and so happy for her.
gosh Shondrea i couldn't agree more

Hi!
I'm a 60 year old male who's just discovering her after all this time ๐. This tune is beautiful, and the lyrics wonderfully penned! What a talented person!
Exactly ๐ฏ
Not a really huge fan of Taylor but I can say she's really a genius her pen game is insane no one does it like her. Imagine making a song with length of 10 minutes for an era that long songs was not even a trend. She's a great storyteller the way that she can say "im hurt" in such a thousands words is just wow. No wonder why her fans are also very smart and classy because they have a role model like Taylor Swift. She is very effective influencer for the youth.
That was some sneaky self praise.
@@ShawnAnston how come?

You donโt have to be embarrassed about liking her, just embrace it, you can like what you want to like. Is it because your friends donโt like her? If not I completely respect your opinion. Just wondering.
"YOU KEPT ME LIKE A SECRET BUT I KEPT YOU LIKE AN OATH."

Taylor is a creative genius. The biggest thing that separates her from most artists is she LOVES and LIVES for what she does. What an inspiration.
and that is the mark of a true artist โคAlso hi! I sang a cover of "All Too Well", check it out?
