Hey just a quick tip for you! When you do “paw” with Ace, make sure not to ask him to do it every time he sits. I know it’s a cute trick, but we did that when my dog was a puppy and for probably 3 years he would put his foot up every time he sat. It’s cute when a little puppy does it, but when Ace is full grown you won’t want him to do it and accidentally scratch one of the kiddos. It took us a LONG time to train my dog out of that habit so if you just don’t teach Ace the habit you won’t have to worry about breaking him from it. Again, it’s a really cute trick and good to ask him to do it sometimes but you just don’t want to ask him every time. :)

You kept pairing the two behaviors so you conditioned your dog to do it. To get out of it you just do the opposite and give a treat every time he puts he's foot down, then slowly get rod of the treats.
If you say the word "paw", he will learn to pair his paw with the word paw, yoh shouldn't just put your hand up, because he will pair those two together. If he pairs it with the word paw you have more control over it since he will do it whenever you say.
@@kerishnefebruary8108 no I know exactly what we did wrong. I just didn’t know much at all about dog training at the time (I was 9). When I got older and realized it I figured it out. But he was conditioned to do it for 3 years so it took a lot for him to get out of that habit. My goal is to simply tell them or just anyone if there’s a chance they see it so they don’t make the same mistake.
I have a poodle and I made the mistake to pair paw with some of his commands and now he uses it with sit and wait.
