i know this song was about his old friend and him drifting ways as they grow older but i'm still choosing to believe that this song is about missing the parts of who he was when he was younger and him evolving into this new person he dislikes. he sees that it's hurting and destroying him but he chooses to stay in that form and so nothing is left but to reminisce of who he was.
i'm sure we're scared of changing and sometimes, we never expect to be the person we are today. even i, sometimes, am afraid of what i became.

When I first discovered this song, I had a best friend. I was sure I would never relate to it because he was my ride or die. Then it felt like I died. I think this song demonstrates how it feels when you're so close to someone that you're practically (or in this case you are) the same person and they suddenly undergo a dramatic change.
