@@coryfessenden1102 I think his perceived defensive woes are overrated. Is he Embiid or Gobert? Ofc not. But he's a passable defender. Has very quick hands which allows him to get steals or "low blocks." A solid team defender, meaning he's not out of position often. And he does a good job of walling up and making shots tougher.
@@cameronboyd8211 Plus he can defend small players, nobody gives him credit for tonight's defense, he literally was chasing Blazers guards and didn't allow them easy shot from pick'n'roll or easy drive to the basket. And there was no offensive rebounds by Portland, Jokić is big body and he easily pushes people out of the paint. He's very underrated defender because he doesn't have attractive blocks or athletic moves, but he almost never gets out of position or breaks defensive line.

@@RudieObias Actually in 2015 GS was still looked at as a young team that didn’t play defence much. The Spurs for the most part were the favourites that year. GS only became a real threat when they tweaked their roster by getting Barbosa and Livingston and of course the following year Kevin Durant.

Dame could win in Portland but they have to make the same changes GS made then. A new defensive minded coach, a more agile and dominant starting Center, and a couple more defensive forwards and I think they can finally become a championship caliber team.

CJ mcollum who take the blazers to the conference final in 2019(the only conference final Lillard play) . Dame was great in the first round against OKC. But in all the others series CJ was the leading scorer of the team. He was doing his work when dame was invisible against the Nuggets in 2019. And he was great against the warriors that year.

I'm putting the bulk of the blame on Portland for blowing that game yesterday. They had a pretty solid gameplan goin and a great chance for forcing a game 7... until they didn't. If you ask me, that non challenge call late in the third quarter was one of the biggest turning points of the game, and Stotts (I think it's spelled that way) might end up losing his job because of it. I don't know what changes I would make if I was Stotts or a member of the front office for Portland, but they need to think of something if they wanna get another crack at making a postseason run.
This series was a wake up call for Portland. That play style where Dame is chucking up shots without a third star is not gonna win you a championship.

If I had to remove one piece of the Blazer's, it would be CJ McCollum, he's a great player, but I just don't see any extraordinary chemistry there between him and Lillard. I know it's easier said than done, but if Portland can grab a Championship Level guy, a two-way player especially, a Big would even be better too, to complement Lillard and share the load, then they'll be cooking.

they have zero cap room. and melo and a few others are FAs.. aka can't trade them. So this is gonna just be a lost year coming up unless they really blow it up.
We need to get Kawhi along Lillard. This would increase our defense while giving another scoring option and a legit superstar. We could trade CJ, Melo, and a young buck or two. Also more importantly a new coach with a more rounded approach to player rotation and defense. We need serious changes to build along Lillard if we want to keep him happy and go deep in the playoffs chasing rings.
Terry Stotts has to go. There is no way you lose to a Nuggets team without Jamal Murray and Will Barton. He’s been a good coach overall but his time is up I believe. They’ve historically been a bad defensive team under him.
Portland should have fired Stotts after getting swept by the 6th seed Pelicans back in 2018.

That’s not true even with Murray out the nuggets are the better team. The Blazers have one of the worst defenses in the league. You thought they could stop the joker who just dominated everyone. The nuggets were the deeper team even though they didn’t have Murray. It showed.

One thing about the Nuggets: when they win a playoff series, you can guarantee that First Take will talk about the team they beat more than the actual winner.
There’s only one team with enough assets to trade for him. Warriors. Not sure if that would even make sense for either team but it would be crazy to see him, Steph and Thompson on the same team.

2) Resign Powell for SG
3) Sign cheap defensive free agents
4) If Blazers have enough money, bring in John Collins
5) Fire Stotts
Portland has had horrible shot selection when it matters that's one of the reasons for their short comings.
i watched the game and dame didnt do that great. didnt pass much just jacked up shots. sure cj was no where to be seen but covington and melo played ok. dame just isnt consisent in the playoffs period. he looks good in dame time aka the last 2 mins because teams dont double or triple team him. its always 1 v 1 iso. i love dame and im not tryna hate but its his story every year in the playoffs. dame isnt consistent in the playoffs when he actually gets doubled. no movement. if he cant get 1 v 1 iso he isnt effective u see what happens when he actually gets doubled. he cant get open and bricks
