I think that the tachinide fly is a good specie of fly so if you see him in nature do not kill him because it can kill the catterpiller who eat carrot abd other things like that. But please bee can revenge if this it was the only time

these are chalcid wasps I believe, the only way to prevent them is by keeping the caterpillars in a cage or indoors before they make a chrysalis. these wasps can also parasitize recently formed chrysalises and quite literally stalk the caterpillars until they are ready :( this has happened to my monarchs but I actually killed the wasps before they did anything

I actually had my first encounter with these guys the past summer. They must've gotten to the caterpillar just before I did, because it seemed perfectly healthy (I usually rear from the egg or young instar, but occasionally take in a larger one). It was actually kind of fascinating--I usually lose a couple a year to tachnids, but I hadn't known that chalcids had moved into the neighborhood as well. The biodiversity in my yard has definitely increased since the milkweed groves properly established themselves...

@@katherinepurvin7802 yes the best solution is to rear from egg for 1st/2nd instar, it lessens the chances of tachnid flies as well as wasps! I like to keep my cages outdoors so they can still see outside and to preserve their migration (apparently keeping them indoors messes with them knowing where they are? Unsure about it) I bought 2 metal reptile cages with removable bottoms and they work so well however they won't prevent the wasps because of their size

I remember feeling the same as a kid. The only caterpillars I found became your typical house moths so when I was able to find some Cabbage White caterpillars, I was excited. Unfortunately, they never made it to butterfly as a parasitic wasp had gotten to them before I found them.

I once found a large pupa, I took it and it wiggled when I touched it. I decided to keep it in a box and wait for it to hatch. After some time went by and it didn't hatch, I opened the box and touched it, not only did it fail to respond to my touch like it used to but it was soft. It ended up breaking open somehow and was full of maggots!!! I was very disappointed and pissed at those maggots!!

You could've sold them. Parasitic bugs are a profitable venture in agriculture. Mantids, ladybugs, tachnid flies and parasitic wasps are all used to control various species of crop-damaging insects. A few hundred thousand larvae, being so easy to propagate, can quickly net you a profit.

저도 비슷한 경험이 있어요... 암끝검은표범나비라는 나비 애벌레가 주변에 많아서 주워다 키웠는데 몇 마리는 때가 지나도 우화를 안 해서 보니 번데기 안은 텅 비었거나 녹아내리고 근처에 붉은 기생파리 고치가 숨어 있곤 했습니다. 애벌레 몸속에 숨어있다가 번데기가 되면 파먹는다더라고요. 처음에는 괘씸해서 터뜨려 죽였는데 사람 잣대를 들이대기도 좀 뭐하다 싶어서 그 다음부턴 그냥 창밖에 될 대로 되라고 던져버렸어요.

We have a lot of that exact species of Caterpillars here in the Philippines and they love to eat Calamansi Leaf 🌿.
Btw, they're Brown with White Spots and little like spikes in their body and after some times they'll shed their skin and become Green 💚

Revenge!!! I also helped a ton of this species a long time ago. I have a video of one in my channel that I filmed using my old phone. I kept them inside the house to avoid parasites like these, infecting them during the pupa stage. I was also calling them Caterpies, Butterfree and Metapod haha

키위 알에 저 기생벌들이 알 낳는거 아니냐 할수 있는데 사마귀 알에 기생하는 곤충은 수시렁이 밖에 없습니다. 거기다 사마귀는 알집인데다 번데기 탈피가 아니라서 괜찮습니다.

연가시: 물에서 살며 모기 유충이 연가시의 새끼나 알을 먹고, 그게 또 자라서 모기가 되면 잠자리한테 먹히고, 그 잠자리가 최종 숙주가 되거나 사마귀 한테 먹혀서 기생합니다. 그런데 연가시에 감염된 개체는 애초에 생식능력을 상실해서 짝짓기도 안되고 알도 못 낳습니다.
