the way i understand the songs meaning way more now that I am in a relationship. I've been listening to billie since I was 13 years old and this song had a completely different meaning to me then versus now (I am 18). I'm not saying that I am becoming obsessive and controlling my partner, but I truly understand the fear of loosing someone that means so much to you. your anxiety kicks in as a survival method when you begin to overthink everything and become defensive against your partner. and it can even go into a step further to where you let those intrusive thoughts take over and you're no longer in control of your emotions and actions.

When this came out I was homeless, on drugs, and then jail. I now have a house, job, and husband. This song and “Clover Cage - In the Moment” are the two songs that helped get rid of my depression. I just want to send love to everyone and I want everyone to know things will get better. We are in this together..I love you ❤️🎉

Just my interpretation
if you notice, they never actually kiss. Shes manipulating him by keeping herself close enough for hope of a relationship but just out of reach because she is afraid to love and be in a relationship due to being hurt from being in love. she feels bad about it which is why she says im sorry in the background and sings that its not like her to be so mean because she knows she is controlling him. Hence the Marionette strings. She was using the strings to keep him bound to her and her only. She always allows him to get close or pull him in close enough to where he thinks they'll be together but then purposely pulls away or pushes him away right when it gets to that point. At one point the strings broke after he realized she was manipulating him so he pushed her away in anger. She turned it around on him and they separated but he still loved her so he came back. Him coming back showed that she had complete control over him and strings cocooned him, turning him into a prisoner of his feelings for her. He's hers forever although they may never end up together.

I just love the energy of their dancing. It really captures the push and pull of the toxic relationship

A spiritual journey to self awareness and reflection reveals this knowledge of being someone's bad guy someone's heartbreak, and when you realize this, your soul is forever sad to know your biggest heart break was because you were the villain and you shattered their soul. The only thing to do now is to keep them in your dreams like a hostage.

For me it’s rare to find people who take in situations like me so it’s absolutely insane to know an entire celebrity takes in things just like me. I’m incredibly lucky to have found Billie Eilish as early as i did and i’m glad she was “here for me” when nobody else was.

The change in the background colors I found to be really interesting. For me, they symbolized this:

I used to listen to this song solely to the fact I loved billies voice. I never understood it or could relate but the lyrics were pretty. Now I listen for comfort. I can relate now to every lyric and it perfectly reassembles how I feel in a relationship with bpd. It's hard having it in general but falling in love with it hurts. Thank you Billie for being able to make songs for people to relate to.

I don't think this is how billie interpreted it, but when she says "let me crawl inside your veins" I kind of took it literally as if she were like a drug. (for example heroin injected into peoples veins so comparing her to that.) and she's holding him hostage because he's so addicted to her love (as people are addicted to drugs.) but he can't leave no matter how hard he tries because he loves her too much. the video really changed my perspective which I love. Billie is so amazing. so happy for her and her successes.

how i see it it this, she wants a relationship and to be alone WITH somebody. but at the same time she feels like she'd be holding the person hostage and doesn't want to hurt them. like she was alone and he came into her life, then they argued at time but every time he tried to get close or kiss her she pushed him away because she didn't want him to hurt or feel like a hostage. in her interview she also gets asked if she has a bf and she goes "no, i feel like i couldn't put them through that" and the lyrics just all add up like she wants them horribly but she doesn't want to mess up or make them hurt and feel like a hostage.
