for the record, Chris Evans was filming for the show Defending Jacob not to far away from where Ryan was and so Ryan called and asked. Chris was busy but if they could have him in and out in 10 mins then it was alright, and they did just that. there is a youtube video explaining it and other stuff too.

I laughed so hard at the Chris Evans cameo, my husband heard me in another room while streaming and wondered what the hell I was watching. This film totally went above and beyond my expectations. I had so much fun watching it. Glad you guys enjoyed it.

I love how uncanny Dude looks. Idk if they meant it, but it just adds to his whole unfinished NPC character.
They did what the makers of Kingsman did with some of their greenscreen work.Intentionally made it less than perfect do lend to the idea of him being unfinished.
I wish that he was T-posing the whole time, like his animations were also unfinished.

Hugh Jackman voiced the masked guy in the alley, and Dwayne Johnson did the voice of the bank robber too. Tina Fey also voiced the Mum vacuum cleaning in the background as well. Cameos galore!!! 😉👍🏻

My girlfriend and I were able to see it early in the form of an advanced screening. My expectations were honestly shattered and the "cameo" made the theater cheer like I haven't heard since Endgame. Glad you all got to react to it.

I was pleasantly surprised how good this movie was and the movie having a lot of heart. Yeah there were some inaccuracies of how video games work but it’s also hard to be mad when you can tell this movie was made to be fun and make people laugh, not JUST a cash cow.
At the end of the day it’s a really cheesy script but I think the performers and cast really drive this film. Ryan and Rel bring a lot of heart to the film and Taika really makes the villain role feel alive and not just generic corporate scumbag.
But most surprising is how this movie is marketed the way that it is, with Ryan as the lead, but it’s all driven and rooted in the underlying romance plot. I usually roll my eyes at the obligatory romance plots but Joe Keery and Jodie Comer did some HEAVY lifting and made them likable.
I’m reallyyyy surprised and glad this movie was a lot of fun.
I feel like the movie works because of how cheesy it is. They don't take themselves seriously, they don't expect you to believe it's a realistic world.

I liked the fact that they didn't really dumb down the video game aspect too much. Like for how long did they treat anything video game related in movies like its kids shit. You see people in movies playing video games, they have like a Playstation controller in their hands but you hear Atari sound effects that you hear.
But yeah, while this wasn't super accurate to how games work, its still the closest we've come in a movie to how games are in a way.
The "I'm just this idiot in the background" line really got me

@@ArthurKnight1899 For anything to not be an amorphus grey blob in a game it has to have texture mapping, they are layers of detail that tell an engine how to make things look.
One kind of mapping is reflection mapping, and a lot of times in games to save space / processing power, the "Reflection" is actually a distorted still-image of a similar environment. The reflection on the shades was a still image of the original game's map that they never updated to the new one
With so much hype/focus on things like RTX raytracing, I wonder how much longer baked reflection maps will continue to be used in games?
Yeah, I work for a game studio and I just noticed a few days ago that the opening sequence shows a shot of his apartment and the reflections are wrong, because they covered the original reflections quickly and cheaply

I remember being in the theater seeing the back of the shield like "Wait, that looks like--" Then I heard the music exclaiming "No They Didn't!" Then I flat out SCREAMED when Chris Evan popped up. Definitely one of my most memorable theater experiences.

I loved how different this was to "Ready Player One", yet used some of the same elements. Big budget virtual reality incorporating pop culture visual gags.
Ready Player One thought it was more intelligent than it was, this one isn't trying to be anything more than it is.

When I watched this one in the theater, I was laughing my butt off! And a couple of guys that were sitting a couple rows away, moved back to where I was sitting and said "You mind if we come back here? Cause you're at least laughing out loud and having a good time." So we all watched the rest of the movie together - and laughed our butts off!!!
To the think how she kissed the Guy. I think they said in the movie that Guy's AI was writing the code by itself, so it litterally made the buttong for the kiss. Then when the girl got the code she found the way to "kiss" the Guy.

By the way, I found this information...voice cameos in the film include Tina Fey as Keith's vacuuming mom, Hugh Jackman as a masked avatar in an alley, Dwayne Johnson as a bank robber, and John Krasinski as a silhouetted gamer.
I think what made this movie work is the surprising amount of heart it had. Wasn't expecting to feel anything but damn did that ending make me tear up a little.

I’ll be honest, I had low expectations for this film…I actually didn’t plan on watching it at all. Boredom and lack of options, I decided to check it out…ended up loving the film. Watched it twice. 👍🏽👍🏽

This movie was really great, wasn't expecting it to be as amazing as it was but knew it would be a good watch either way. Loved the references about Marvel, Star Wars, GTA, the stereotypes in the gaming industry and developers. Everything about this movie was good and original

Man this is a fun movie. Not really how games work but still fun. I found the premise of the dev's storyline being like the plot of Tron pretty funny. And I was the only one in the theater shouting out when Cap's shield came out. I hear there's going to be a sequel but I'm not sure I'd be interested in that.
I can’t help but feel a little bad for Guy at the end of the movie, he’s literally programmed to only ever fall in love with one specific woman and he gave her up
I did too but the whole ending shows that they're not limited to their programming. He can move on and meet someone else now and his main love his the love for his friend. I like that they did that more than give him a version of Molotov Girl to fall in love with

Small thing on how she was able to kiss Guy… she is a world class programmer who does use hacks to hide herself in the game from Soonami… so my guess is she used whatever code guy used to kiss her to kiss him.
With the ending being a love story the thing I really liked about this film is that it’s only really a love story for the last 5mins. Other than that it is pretty much a completely original IP with no real similar storyline. That is extremely rare these days.

I really wish she sang the song to awaken Guy instead of kissing. Since it was kinda what awakened him in the first place. I thought that’s what was gonna happen but then she kissed him and it confused me because of the line earlier. Also tbh it felt like almost all the stuff outside of the game had a different director or something. It was hard for me to watch some of it, but I really enjoyed the movie regardless, especially the stuff inside the game.

Love the Halo vehicle cameo's. First the mantis walks by while he is checking his bank acount, then a warthog drives by the screen not too long after really fast and later we can see a scorpion tank smashing cars in the background.
They brought them in and recreated their setups. The Beyond the Trailer girl did an interview with a couple of the streamers in the movie.
