      @Ryan M I know people that work for companies that create programs to replace accounting, legal and HR functions. Like it or not, a lot of the jobs you see today are fading away. Not everyone will be inclined to "learn to code" when they get the sack.

    • @CaptainSazzman
      @CaptainSazzman 3 년 전 +5

      @Ryan M And I know economics. Structural economics (when whole industries die) can be brutal and plunge entire economies into poverty.
      For example, northern communities in the UK fell into deep poverty when the coal and mining industry died. Families that had 3 generations of miners were left unemployed in a market where their skills were useless and many didn't quite have the money to get a degree. A lot of these were 50-year-old fathers of 5 children with bills to pay.
      Jobs have been replaced before but not at this scale or speed. My example was one industry, but we could see these happen to many at the same time. Millions of people will be facing unemployment at the same time and that could lead to disaster.
      The pandemic has already shown us the first signs: civil unrest, crime, poverty, homelessness, depression, substance abuse etc.
      It would be naive to pretend that it will sort itself out. Those that do are either in a good situation or woefully unaware.
      Even the government gave people assistance during the initial lockdown (USA, UK, France, Sweden among many).

    We want him for New York’s next mayor

      @Luke Austin if he’s offered one of those positions, then I believe he should take it before mayor of New York, however, I don’t think they’re going to give him one. I think Buttigieg has the strongest chance out of any of the previous candidates to get a role, and personally I think that’s going to be secretary of defense due to his military background.
