Thank you for having Clyburn on your show. That was about the most straightforward conversation ever. He wasn't trying to sell a book like Anderson! Also, I'm over 60 and when I was young, there were black people talking about they weren't going to vote for anyone the same talk as now. So they didn't vote at all that's why we don't get anything we want because Black people never have been on the same page. Some of us complain but do nothing! We have to understand that we will always be in the minority because White Hispanics feel they are just that not "people of color"!

i have a sersious question. How do prove wether a person is Black american or not? I mean there are caribbean americans who have been in the US for generations and consider themselves black american. What about those who are ethnically mixed with black american + black other or even with white. What about black americans who also have a huge white ancestry tree? How will it be decided who has or doesnt have a right to reparations? With Native American reparations they had a percentage to decide but then that was easier since there is dna to easily seperate native american from all other races while that isnt the case with black americans. Btw i am only asking because as you might already know people have already lied numerous cases about their ethnicity to get certain benefits so i have no doubt they will do the same once black americans start receiving reparations.
It is still impossible. You would need to get the House, Senate and President to align. Then IF you got that you'll have immediate backlash by the whites who will punish democrats for passing it which will result in the loss of the House, Senate and Presidency. Further, the court system will strike it down. If not the appellate courts then the 6-3 Supreme Court would. They would say it violates the equal protection clause to give Black descendants reparations but not acknowledge other groups that were harmed thereby striking down the reparations. So we would have done all of that for nothing.
Smarter play is targeted legislation that benefits Blacks but can't be called an exclusive benefit to Blacks. That is a law that can survive scrutiny from the courts.
The hardest part would be getting white America to agree to it..it would never happen

I’m a 64 yr old woman and Sen Clyburn just taught me some things in this interview. Too many people are voting without knowing the facts and how this political machine of ours actually works. We need to do more of these types of interviews/conversations in order to make certain we’re informed before we go to vote for people and on issues. You’re never too old to learn! While I thank the elder for his contributions to the movement, he needs to retire. It's time. He supported the crime bill unapologetically now he needs a year study on how to repair it? I'm not a fan of Clyburn. He was once asked about reparations for black Americans and he said "good luck, you're not going to get it". It was funny when he was talking about what Democrats have done for black people, he had to go all the way back to the 60s. What a joke.
