Before i start i want to say that i 100% agree with you.
Now, I don't think most people forget, what people want is for their idols to go and say "look I'm grown, I want to support x &y and speak out about z and imma do it with or without your permission".
It also doesn't help that since there are some idols who have spoken up and are from the same company as certain groups, it makes people go "well if A can say something, why can't (group name) do it too? They're from the same company!" So I think that's what is leading to all of the mixed opinions.
Also, I feel like if people are gunna "expect" it from anyone, it mainly needs to be people from the K-HipHop and R&B side. That's who I want see. I've only seen 4 people say something

Tbh I don’t even expect anything from kpop idols. I Necessarily wouldn’t think idols in South Korea would discuss issues in America. I’m expecting more celebs in America to speak out about this problem tho. And idols social media’s are mostly ran by the companies they are signed to. Most of the companies don’t try to bring up political problems such as so in advance of keeping there thoughts private to avoid Controversy in their platform. Again I don’t really expect South Koreans to intrude in America especially since a global pandemic is still a threat and other things that can possibly be going on in Korea itself that we don’t know about.

He was speaking truth. When I heard about George Floyd, my mind definitely did not think of if kpop stars speak out or not. We have American celebrities and American businesses who hasn't said a word. I still receive emails about sales from people and companies that have been silent.
Secondly, many idols don't have control over their socials. Just because we "see" large chunks of idol's lives, we do not see everything. At the end of the day, we don't know what they do off camera. They could have donated and sign petitions and we would never know.
Also, the news media is extremely edited. By the time news reached us, it has already gone through several filters... And that's just local news. Now imagine international news.
Remember the riots in Ukraine not too long ago? I have a friend who went to stay with her mom there because they are still rioting and she is scared. We wouldn't know if they riots were still going on or not because the news stopped reporting it.
I'm pretty sure there may have been a segment here and there about our America on Korean news stations but we cannot hold people responsible to speak out if they never got the whole story or updates in the first place.
We also cannot "summon" an interest in American political news if there was not an interest there to begin with.
I think at the end of the day, people pick and choose what they deem to be important and what they spend their time on. Don't use black lives matter as an excuse to spew negative towards someone you already don't care for (antis). Sorry this is so long

(Army here but I am really sure that other Idols from other groups do the same) Our Boys dont always tell us when they donate something, be it money, food or whatever. Half the time we hear about it its not from them, it's from a shelter, organization or whatever they donated to that wanted let us know and be greatful. Same went for example that one time JK caught someone falling down the stage elevator. He was hurt the rest of the night, he still performed and didn't say a word even tho he could've taken credit for saving someone. It was the man that fell who spoke up about it. And thats why I think you are right when you say we have no fucking idea what they are doing and they don't have to tell us either. And I'm 100% sure other Idols are doing the same. Everyone should stop looking at others ans instead look at themself and ask themselves if they did anything to help at all. Hating and pointing fingers at others for not doing anything if you don't even know its true (and even if) doesn't help anyone. Doing something yourself does and maybe think about not boasting about it because if you do it to be praised for it there's something fundamentally wrong. Grow the fck up.

I’ve followed my boys from the beginning and what they have taught me is to be me love me and the people around me be a good individual , be proud be giving be supportive just by being them. Showing us this through Their music and actions their struggles. Army coming together to give donations on their behalf to many causes because of their positive influence and message. They have always been silent donors I believe in my heart that they have done something or will do something . I’ve seen a lot of army’s around the world supporting in their way, I’ve seen them march and share links sign petitions and donate, all that is the good that these boys have brought into army’s hearts. Now is the time to stand together and support one another. We don’t know nothing about their side of the world and we should try to understand. They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. People are on a bts hate agenda using BLM to hurt them and you . This is not the time for fandom wars. We need to stand together and support each other. They may not be able to speak on it but a lot of us can.

Honestly, I haven’t felt any type of way about people outside of the US speaking about this issue. The work needs to be done HERE first. You hit the nail on the head when you said our own American (and sadly African American) artists aren’t speaking up.
Something else to remember is that while American artists can be bold and forthcoming, and speak freely on any issue they choose, Korean labels run a much “tighter ship” so to speak. So much money is tied up into these idols and as K-Pop is dependent upon fan culture, they almost have to be a neutral blank slate, or they risk alienating fans.
With that said, it is truly humbling to see so many other countries protesting and standing in solitary with us, as well as seeing Jay Park and Mark from GOT7 donating and making posts.

It's like blaming American celebrities for not speaking out about Hongkong protests or corruption of the SK president. Why can't Americans understand that the world does not revolve around you. A lot of people from other countries have their own issues to deal with. Most Asians have never met a black person in their entire lives. What you expect them to do? Suddenly have a stance on deeply American issue?

  • @cetriyasArtnComicsChannel

Okay so as a korean I would like to explain that many koreans are actually quite dubious on this entire protest. (I dont speak for each and every kpop artists and i dont mean to hurt anyone's feelings). Yes they feel for the wrongful death of George Floyd, yes they are upset at the racist action of the white policemen but the biggest reason for the dubious opinion is due to the violence of this protest. remember that korea is a country that drove off their ex-president with a peaceful candle march towards the Blue House. They are VERY doubtful when it comes to violent protests. The korean news that started out reporting about the racial conflicts behind Floyds death have quickly turned to report news on the Korean store owners in the US who have had their stores robbed and burnt down by black protesters. If their people are becoming victims how could you expect them to be supportive??? Secondly, many koreans/asians have memories of being racially discriminated by not just white people but also black people. Even just a few days prior to Floyd's death there were reports of asians becoming victims of hate crimes due to the coronavirus. I remember watching a video uploaded by a black male chasing and mocking an old korean lady squirting hand sanitizer at her as she ran away from him pleading for him to stop and nobody in the comments thought that it was wrong except for the koreans who were extremely upset. I often watch live korean game streams but whenever theres an english comment passing by they would say "coronavirus" or "do you have the coronavirus", "ching chang chong".... I even saw one that said "i wont be getting the corona virus because im black"... but guess what? this didnt even become news in the states. The world, except for asia, wasnt even the least bit concerned that many asians were becoming victims of racial hate crimes. I myself have been living in the states for a long time have experienced several racism from black people. If yall have been a kpop fan for a while you will probably know what I mean. They may be quiet about it but they are also humans that have feelings and they do get hurt. Even in this day and age asians are a race that are attacked left and right. The korean people do understand that these hateful people do not represent the entire black community and that there are many many civilized people too. However, those exceptions happen a bit too often and have greatly hurt the asian race making many asian people reluctant of this protest. Even with such a great history of fighting against racism it just feels as though so many have not learned. Just hope that they will after this one. As much as BLACK LIVES MATTER, ASIAN LIVES MATTER TOO.

You mentioned hate towards Asians from black people, but black people get racially discriminated by Asians, too.
People here do know about the hate that Asians are getting and must do not like it and think that it's ridiculous because it is not their fault that they are Asian and it is not their fault for the Corona virus.
Racial prejudices towards black and brown people is not just an American issue, but America has always publicly shown their racism with no repercussions.
At the end you said Asian lives matter, too, and I agree. And I do not think that black people's problems matter more than Asian problems, at all. But asking for the chance to breathe is not something that should be invalidated because other minorities have issues, too.
If you guys were to start a movement, I have no uncertainty that our black and brown people would help y'all, as we have helped y'all in the past. We always help our other poc (including Asians because Asians are what we call non black poc) but it seems that other poc always make excuses or try to compare sufferings whenever we ask them for help.
And I don't know if you've noticed, but the media is very biased. Not just here, but everywhere around the world. The media is not for us, but for the government.
You mentioned the violent riots as if the violence towards black people hasn't been unfathomable and inhumane for hundreds of years. But that is not me excusing the violence, because I do not like the violence, but it seems that riots are only bashed so hard when they are from black and brown people.
Also. It has been proven that the looting and riots have been started by undercover police officers and white supremacy groups. Yes, some black people participated, but there are countless videos of people begging them to stop.
We have countless peaceful protests in America, and around the world, but the racist media isn't showing those. They're showing the few riots as opposed to the countless protests. Protests are not riots, riots are riots and protests are protests.
And I would also like to mention that not only were the riots started by cops and supremacists, but so was the violence. The people would be protesting peacefully and then the cops would come and beat them, mace them, bomb them, shoot them, and arrest them. There are countless videos of that.
Everything is biased against poc. If our president is blatantly and publically racist, then why is it not a surprise that the media is as well.
Let me also point out that the protests about this issue around the world have been peaceful, but they American ones are not. That is because America is especially racist towards the black community and it is not the protestors starting the violence.
There have been countless riots by white people that have been deemed appropriate. Rather they're against quarantine or about killing black people or about sports.
If you would like for me to go get resources and actually tell you when black people have helped other minority groups, I would be happy to do so. I would also be happy to send resources for the many riots started by white people that no one cares about.
Also. People in America do care about what's going on in other countries. Even though America isn't the best country, we all know that it has helped other countries throughout the years.
And if the people in your society do not know enough, they should educate themselves. Everyone should. On all matters. Sometimes people just choose to stay ignorant and that is not okay.
And as for idols, I am not mad at or unstanning them. I am, however, disappointed in them/their companies. They work with black artists/producers/conductors. They take from the culture and they have black fans. They especially should be educated. I understand if the companies prohibit the idols. But, in that case, it is okay for us to criticize the companies.
It is not a crime to not speak out, but everyone's silence speaks volumes.

FIRST, thank you for making this video. Thank you for not being carried away by those crazy “fans”. And know that I’m doing my best to support black community as well.
I understand that this is about all idols, not just BTS. But because many haters out there pick BTS as their target, I have to say this. It is so f*cked up when people started twisting BTS’s efforts on the Love Yourself project. Remember the fact that more than any other artists, BTS have left the most positive messages to influence a huge number of people and inspired fans to help many many people who are struggling in the world. Don’t just throw away all of those good doings just because you don’t see them speaking up about the problem now. Not talking about it doesn’t mean that they’re ignorant or turn away from what they’ve stood for. The LOVE YOURSELF and SPEAK YOURSELF campaign is about YOU. YOU are supposed to love yourself, YOU are supposed to speak up, use YOUR voice. It was never about BTS. Through BURN THE STAGE, BRING THE SOUL, BREAK THE SILENCE movies, BTS already played as a role model for us to speak up ourselves by speaking up themselves about all the struggles of idols/artists, which brought awareness to people and hoping for a change in the future. None of us really know what they’re doing behind the scenes or if they’ve done something to help. So shut the f*ck up. Not to mention that if it’s not because of BTS, there wouldn’t be such a huge community (ARMY) where people help spread awareness. The whole fandom already know what’s going on. Hence, the platform that BTS built was utilized effectively 🤷🏻‍♀️ Genuine ARMY are adorable and kind. I’m proud of you guys who have always done good things to make BTS proud, just like what BTS always teach us in every single damn song that THEY WORKED THEIR ASS OFF FOR THIS IGNORANT SOCIETY!!! 💜 Therefore, haters need to know their place. Besides, KPOP idols might not want to take attention away from black voices because of the damn haters who like to twist their words, turning truth to lie and vice versa. 😏 It’s fair to demand such things from black artists all over the world, yes but from a South Korean group? I don’t think so. Some says that BTS promotes in America and that’s why they need to speak up about this issues going on there. RIDICULOUS LOGIC. Let me tell you this, BTS also tour in many other countries, so if they speak about this, will we keep the same energy and ask them to speak about every foreign affair that occurs wherever they’re at??? For example, matters that have been happening in Hong Kong, Latin America, India, Taiwan, etc.??? Keep in mind that they are ARTISTS, not POLITICAL ACTIVISTS. Stop all the logics like “they’re powerful. They have a lot of money. Their fan base is big. Blah blah blah.” DUDE, we’re fans who are here for their music. The majority of us have zero power to control or make changes about this issue. Artists are just normal citizens under powerful political systems after all. Moreover, BTS have always shown respect to the black culture. As artists, they have used their fame, their platform to educate fans about amazing black artists, once again reclaim the value of black music and remind people to appreciate it even more. No one has done it as good as BTS do. Their collab with UNICEF was meant to focus on helping children, and they did it effectively. They’ve always influenced the world with positive messages through MUSIC, where they’re belonged to. So chill out, stop twisting facts, know your place, focus on yourself, instead of hating on other people or mess other people’s lives while the world needs unity and teamwork the most right now. PEACE!!!

Bighit could be telling them that they shouldn’t get involved. Because the last time they spoke out about something in America they got so much hate. Groups don’t need to support every single issue that is happening around the world, and I honestly believe that although they don’t speak about one thing it isn’t right just to cancel them. People don’t realize that in Kpop although some groups have some freedom their company always has the final decision/voice in anything they do publicly. Which is why they could be donating and such in secret to support without the issue of going against their company.

Ofc that’s great for celebrities to speak up but that’s a waste of energy to expect whoever you stan to suddenly become an activist. First of all although it’s covered globally you’ve got to understand racism in Korea isn’t perceived the same way as in the US. They might have heard about it but don’t know how big it is. What artists in the US have ever spoken up about people getting killed in Brazil for the exact same reason? Have YOU ever spoken up about people getting killed in other countries for asking for a tad bit of freedom? When it doesn’t touch you, you simply don’t care so don’t expect everyone in the world to do as such. This is one of the reasons why I will never claim myself as a Army, Ahgase, Mua, Blink or whatever because when it comes to topics like this, the bigger picture is lost. People are singling out certain artist / idols but are quiet about their favs. Yes, I would love to see idols, especially the ones who are heavily influenced by black culture and is reflected in their music show some type of support for the BLM movement, but if they don't what am I supposed to do? Beat them? No. If you're black and feel some type of way about it and you feel as if you don't want to support them anymore then don't. But don't force your opinion on other people. Same thing goes for the people who are making excuses for their favorite idols, instead of preaching to persons saying they are not obligated to support BLM, don't say anything at all, because a lot of y'all are coming off as hypocrites. That my two cents

Listen I respect all the protests, but what I hate rn is some fandoms are saying “Dont promote (group), #BlackLivesMatter.” Like I get it your trying to prove a point, but you’re literally hurting their career and everything else they worked hard for. Also how is it their fault? They live in Korea not America. How are they suppose to understand what’s going on from the history of these events, which is not even in their own country? This is just an opinion feel free to hate me, but I stand with what I said, this is not our idols fault so stop blaming them for something they know little about.

I’m not a person of color and won’t know people of color go through, but I do support this movement and agree that your lives do matter. I hate how racist others can be. But I don’t believe that Kpop idols absolutely need to speak up. They’re not American and they technically have no control of what happens over here since they are not American citizens. I think that the only Kpop idols who should probably speak out about the issue is those who are from America. Other than that I don’t believe it is their obligation because once again they don’t live here and really have no part in it. It would be nice if they did speak up but people have no right to get mad at them for not doing it because first off their company may not be allowing them to do so and it is something that isn’t necessarily happening in Korea, yes racism could be happening there, but the killing is not happening there.

I hear what you are saying and it is a difficult topic for artist especially in Korea to express their support, however, many have built the careers and portfolios on the rhythm, beats and lyrics of many R&B and hip hop artists. The heart and soul of the music were born out of the life experience of the black artist, Tupac, Nas, Snoop, etc. If you don't or can't speak directly you can use your music or that of others to convey your support. Many have live platforms. Play the music in the background. Drop a lyric in a conversation. We understand your constraints.

D Lee I agree. It would be nice if they did so. But it’s a shame that a lot of them don’t have complete say or control over what they do in public. Which I wish they did because BTS could do so much if the company didn’t have that control.
Edit: Plus side is they just tweeted about it this morning so I guess bighit gave in and let them do it.

I agree that this is the last things that needs to be thought about. But for some of us who at the end of our days going out protesting, donating, etc. We are sitting there thinking about it and it hurts.
Honestly it's not about "fan wars" or disliking an idol. People are genuinely pissed off and hurt.. granted we dont know the ins and outs of why they haven't spoken up about it there is a right to be angry and especially black fans and at this moment.

  • @therealestdrea
    @therealestdrea 3 년 전 +35

    Short Answer: Yes, they should.
Why: Well, many KPOP idols take influence from black artist. A lot of them wouldn’t be where they are Musically and Artistically if it wasn’t for the inspiration of Black American artist, and even black artists form other counties. Well they wear box braids, dreads, rap, etc. all that comes from BLACK culture. So yes they should. Will they? I don’t know. It’s just about what’s right. Either way it’s not their place to be angry or speak out. But why wouldn’t they? Many other non blacks are standing up for #BLACKLIVESMATTER, protesting, spreading awareness and more. So they could too.

You Can't say they should cuz some are under a strict company. Rose bp got lot of hate when she talked about the Australian fire bash. If you know about kpop, most groups are not allowed to do that without permission from their company, and that was clearly his message. So we don't have the right to tell idols that they should cuz even if they want they may not be allowed.

I won't lie - it does hurt me. It hurts me a lot. But it would be ridiculous to turn this into some sort of fan war when literal lives are being threatened. Personally, I've just chosen to mute companies/idols rn who are still promoting/uploading to twitter and whatnot. Not because I'm ready to "cancel" them, but because a daily selca or new fancam is the last thing I want to see after spending hours watching footage after footage of unjust violence and bullying.

Not just kpop. Any artist or person who is influenced by black culture should speak up. If they aren’t that’s almost equivalent to always being there for a friend when they need you... but when you ask for the smallest favor in return .. they refuse.
I do agree that we should put more focus on what WE’RE doing. I for sure am putting more focus on BLM...But in the back of my mind I can’t help but be disappointed in artists that are heavily influenced by black culture that are silent 😕
