I'm not sure if you remember but back in December when Red Velvet released their song Psycho, Wendy suffered from terrible injuries due to SBS and their stupidity. She fell from a 3.5m staircase onto the ground and cracked her cheekbones, broke her pelvic bone, hurt her arm, and ankle. So since then she's still recovering and will unlikely come back anytime in 2020. In the mean time, Red Velvet can't/ don't want to prob make a comeback without Wendy but they still need to maintain their name in the music industry and I think SM thought the best option was a unit debut with Seulgi and Irene. Before Seulgi and Irene made their debut, they appeared a lot in dance videos together as a unit and alot of people liked their chemistry. I think its the best option right now, these two members are free right now and they're bound to be successful because they were loved as a unit before debut! So yes they released a mini album with this song as the title track. I believe they picked this song because they wanted to do something different from what Red velvet "normally" would do. (there is no normal in red velvet's discography lol)

so apparently this song is based on the story of “carmilla” who is the original dracula, basically. in the story, carmilla is a vampire who desires a young girl. irene is carmilla and seulgi is the young girl
