Interlude: Shadow.
I think I see why Suga did the song the way he did. The first half is him stalking about his 'shadow' among other things and 'don't let me down- 'don't let me fly- the first half is sad kinda the lyrics are heartwrenching and gutwrenching and with so many meanings. And the second part how the beat changes and drops, Suga goes all out. Like his Shadow overtook him -lyrics saying 'you basically can't get rid of him or cut him loose or get rid of him - you are me and I am you* (I assume that's like his shadow self). All of this is like a theory I have, it what it feels like.
Suga is speaking to us like always through his music, just like BTS always does. I love this song. The duality...is incredible.
You are 100% right this song is just more than what actually everyone thinks, the dark side of our selfs. The shadows that just keeps hunting you and being someone that famous comes with down sides to and it’s scary. Every time they go higher, he falls more into that shadow that’s why we gotta keep everything balanced Ego, Persona and Shadow that’s what I think.

The song has really deep meaning actually ( I mean all of them do), the lyrics have a LOT of meaning and so does the actual M/V. I love them so much 💜
I love that you had a different interpretation of the lyrics than I did. You said that he is making music for his roots. I took it as a mantra especially paired with the rest of the lyrics about how the shadow cast by the brightness (fame) is swallowing him and the tone of voice. It seemed almost desperate like he has to keep telling himself he wants it so that he can continue doing it and fight the shadow.
Everything about this video screams struggles of fame that Bangtan faces. People invading their personal space, the expectations for success and perfection, as well as the loss of sense of self and individuality that can come with being an idol.

Everyone finds this song really hype and everything but my heart tightens and I just want to cry when I hear it due to the message he puts in it, he really uses his emotions and to know how he feels being who he is and how everyone knows him.. it’s just really heart wrenching.
